Ok so this ones a little odd tbh, its called Deliver Us Mars and one would expect that would involve exploring mars, but its actually a theme park drama, you go from place to place, solving puzzles, from climbing puzzles to basically laser puzzles, and even some weird spinning hologram puzzles which are most vexxing at first but eventually also become easy, you get to drive a rover sure, but only in basically pre-set tracks between a to b, with nothing but the odd lore interactable inbetween if that, interspacing this is constant drama cut-scenes and even active sequences.

The main issue really is the drama itself, it seems to be written by those of dubius values, like early on in the game I remember one of the numerous cutscenes where the group tasked with saving the planet is wondering why they get better places to live then the needy spawling masses, who demand everything but contribute nothing and who also caused the problem in the first place, its presented as a moral quandary but the answer is inherently obvious.

Secondary the primary atagonist, a brilliant man who provides the world with decades of clean energy and more advanced technology is then villified for choosing to leave them to it, with one daughter who betrayed him and another who was stolen from his grasp by the traitor, they then repeat the phrase, one man one choice, forgetting that even in there own story the few years of power he deprived them of, mostly due to their lack of redundancy, would have never been there atall without him, one man one choice, he invented the whole tech, world would have got nothing atall without him.

He literally invented the tech, provides humanity with decades of using it, but now hes the ultimate villan for chosing to use it for himself at the end, specially when his actual intention was to start a new human colony free from the dross of the old world, an uneccssarily authoriatian 2nd antognist is introduced whos actions throughorly disrupt the process of starting a colony by being a premium drama queen ultimately leading to its demise and the death of nearly all

The violent greedy sprawling masses whos bad decisions caused all the issues are held up as victim olympic fore-runners, whilst the people trying to make a better world are villified, its a depressing story where the villans reverse right and wrong and come out on top whilst the heroes are laid low unto dust, even the very idea of starting a new world free from the old is villified.

Which runs contrary to human history, for all not denizens of africa, we all descended from those denizens of africa who chose to strike out and found new lands, we all the descendants of pioneers, and yes some of the early migrations failed, and they all died, but people with dreams of a better future kept trying and eventually succeded, but in this story those great pioneers would be the ultimate villans, for failing to stick around, for daring to dream of a better life for they and theres and not being forced to improve those who do not wish to improve.

It tries to paint forays into space as doomed to fail before they start it essentially runs entirely counter to the allure of space that it capitalised on by its own title and setting, its a wolf in sheeps clothing, and sure you can skip cutscenes but there entire active sequences of the less the stellar drama build into the gameplay which you cannot, with flashback sequences trying to paint a picture based on the moral leanings of the writing staff, who given the story they came up with seem to me to be of dubious moral virtue, its not presented as story for one to ponder upon as a thought provoking work, but its instead presented with the moral prospective of the writers built in as foregone conclusions, there are no choices for you, they just lead down a path you can only follow watching helplessly.

As a game thats massively dominated by its story the failure to provide a compelling story that resonates taints the entire game, especially the unncessarily and depressing weeping sequences of your own character and others interplaced throughout, the only characters the thoughtful player might admire are meant to be the villians, whilst the ones meant to be the heroes are all wet sops, with evil intentions, and your own character is to young for true indepencant of thought, and is throughrouly lead by the nose by what can only be described as bad role models throughout.

I simply cannot recommend it, there is indeed some fun to be have in the actual non-story gameplay, the graphics are decent, whilst sure once you get use to the mechanics its not very challenging, it was at least fun getting use to it and seeing a bit of mars even if in passing, the character models are so so, none of them look good mind but none are truly horrid, but the big horrid depressing story that dominates your experience simply ruins it, its not deliver us mars, its deliver us depressing story with a mars backdrop.

Just finished so whilst its fresh in my mind without further ado I can indeed recommend it, lets split it into positives and negatives,

For negatives, it's has some bugs left lurking, texture issues, even some crashes, after one story fight i had to save real fast as the only way to continue was to do reload after the fight from that save, you can see a whole heap of ideas in the game that were never properly utilized, you have choices but they do nothing but change the next portion of gameplay with no lasting effects, its a closed world game masquerading as an open world game, and some of the cutscenes from major plot points feel... rushed at best when they could have been made more deep and meaningful if they took their time.

For positives it has decently entertaining combat system that does a good job of providing an appropriate challenge for your level, whilst getting across the feeling of your skill mattering, you dont level to fast or to slowly, and it does not feel like a grind to progress through the hoards of monsters in the game, if you see through the tropes it does have a reasonable story to follow even if portions do seem a little forced, but you could see how with the proper tlc those story points could have lead to a good story its a pity they squandered major points with all-to quick cut-scenes, without giving the player proper time to understand the reasoning and impetus for decisions made, the graphics are actually quite nice for its time, and I especially laud the water, rain and weather systems, rain causes the ground to look wet the characters armour also, it was clear special effort was put into making the weather system impressive, and it shows.

The main hook is the scope and length of the game, theres allot of game to enjoy, and whilst the lack of respawning monsters can be a negative for replayability its also a positive as you can feel a sense of accomplishment for genuinely making the world safe again, one to half a dozen mobs at a time, the quests are good enough to feel worth taking time from the main story to do them and none of them feel to grindy and demanding of your time, nor to petty to be ignored, by the time you master one set of mobs a new set will come along with sufficiently different behaviour, you feel engaged throughout your progress through the game, there loot is varied and you will continue to progress to better and better gear all the way up to the end, with the games penultimate quest providing players with their ultimate armour choice.

Whilst combat could have been expanded a little beyond the abilities and spells currently in the game your not going to come away without enjoying the core combat experience or the the core game, if you enjoy exploring a detailed and fun rpg world, with a good learning and difficulty curve, decent and coherent graphics and dont mind the odd bug or two you can skip over then ArcaniA is a game well worth a punt

It may not have much in common with the original gothic games but the fact the word gothic IV is mostly missing from it gives this away, but on its own two legs its an enjoyable romp around an enjoyable world, and any issues it has are mostly the its a pitty they didnt .... kind of issues, with just more finishing time, more polishing and few extra level arks to allow major points in the story to gain more "emotional" significance, it could have turned from the good game it currently is into a great one, but ce la vie, still well worth a playthrough as is nonetheless :)

If you enjoy exploration, discovery or survival then subnautica is for you, it does a wonderful job of providing a convincing experience for its players and tempting you forward for that next leap into the unknown whilst rewarding you for your efforts, the setting and creatures add considerable ambience to your experience, with the aptly named reaper's and other nasties menacing you in the depths there roar's reminding you your not safe, whilst discoveries come thick and fast at first, the most important survival abilities, equipment and vehicles come from sticking your neck out and braving exploration, with a nice story tying things together, a reminder that games can be experiences transcending other medium's, I heartily recommend this game.
