Coop is fine but versus matchmaking is non existent because of the small playerbase.
This is why new players are leaving this game and there's only 1000 rank no lifers playing.

Pros:
✔This is still Civilization experience, so you can actually enjoy this for some time
✔Immersive music and sound design that perfectly fits the new space setting of the game
✔Overhauled visuals
✔Affinity system allows you to choose the 3 ways to build your civilization: Harmony, Supremacy, This system was perfected in Rising Tide expanison by allowing players to create hybrid affinities.

Cons:
✘Quests system. A good idea actually, but gets repetitive way too soon
✘No actual terraforming
✘Broken diplomacy. I know diplomacy is not a strong side of Civ series. But in Civ BE it's a complete disaster. AI is too passive. Diplomacy was partially fixed in Rising Tide. But why we should pay for fix?
✘Lazy design of the interface
✘Late game is boring. New type of victories is getting repetitive after the first time

Beyond Earth is the "safe sequel" to Civilization V. If you were looking for Alpha Centauri experience this is not it. This game is such a waste of opportunity. Firaxis could create something bigger than cheap Civ V reskin. And now dev's abandoning Civ BE (no second expansion pack and further updates) and concentrating on Civ VI. This is how they treat their fans, who actually supported them and bought this game.
