As far as roguelikes go, this is a pretty solid one. The game play loop is rewarding and you can scale the difficulty as much as you like right off the bat. There is always a new item to unlock that can change up how you play. I found it to be pretty fun overall.

Plus, this game is chock full of cartoon, anime, and videogame references. If you like that type of thing, this is a good game for you. It is one of the few games I have spent the time to 100% the achievements on, so it must be pretty fun!

It's a civ game, there is not much else to say. I can't think of a single reason why you shouldn't buy it, unless you don't want to spend days on end conquering the world.

Moonlighter fulfills the need to both adventure and manage a shop filled with goodies from monsters you've killed in the dungeons. The combat is interesting and not difficult to master. You might struggle with a boss initially, but if you have fought it more than once, you will generally be able to beat them with ease.

I did find myself getting a little bit bored of doing dungeon runs though. By the time I got to the 4th dungeon, I decided to do a run all the way through on the first go just so that I would be done with it. The final boss only took two tries (died in a stalemate on the first one).

At a certain point the game starts to feel easy / less rewarding. Spending time to find the exact price for items became a chore, and I ended up googling the prices by the time I started the second dungeon to save the time spent guessing.

You feel like you are in dire need of money initally, but by the third dungeon you never feel like you're lacking it, which makes the shopkeeping feel even less rewarding.

Overall I would recommend the game, but I don't think there is anything particularly special about it that will draw me back to do new game plus now that I have beaten the game.

If you like Slay the Spire, you will like this too. The mechanics are similar (deck building, artifacts, path choosing etc.) but you also get monster cards as opposed only having one fighter to buff, and 3 floors of your train to manage. Additionally, you get to pick two different clans, which affect the cards available to you each round. Some have pretty good synergies that are satisfying to discover.

Overall I feel like the route choosing is fairly straightforward / doesn't require much thought when compared to STS. You get two options each level, each of which have a few bonuses (a card pick, extra gold, a shop, etc.).

When you're building your deck you need to track how many units you have vs. how much you have space for on each train, to make sure you don't end up with units that you can't play. This adds an additional element that makes deck management much more interesting.

The only downside of the game is that the fights on each floor are pretty set in stone, with optional trials for additional rewards. If you play through a couple times, you've basically seen it all and know what to prepare for as you progress through hell. This can make the gameplay seem somewhat stale, but having 5 clans to pick from makes the way you play against those same enemies different each time.

Basically if you liked STS, you have no reason not to get this game. It's worth it, even if it is just to give you a break from STS for a day or two.

This game combines the story narration that I loved in Bastion with standard roguelike elements that never fail to disappoint. The art style is excellent and every step you take draws you more and more into the world. Unlocking new characters feels natural, and you get excited every time the game hints at a new family member getting ready to fight. I have definitely found there are characters that I like to play more than others but the fatigue system will keep me rotating through the family and getting better at the gameplay unique to each member.

Overall I would definitely recommend this game, I have yet to find anything I don't like.

Two successful campaigns in and I've got to say, I love this game. I told my friends to get it so that we could play it together I liked it so much.

The game mechanics are familiar enough to tabletop and roguelike players that if you have dabbled in either category, playing the game will feel natural. The game is challenging enough, even on the easier levels that if you don't play carefully, your characters will die. Other than a few calculated risks gone wrong, the difficulty is not frustrating. It pushes you to strategize, to build your team to perfection.

Another thing that keeps the game feeling fresh is the lore shop. As you explore the campaigns, you earn points that allow you to unlock new features, characters, items, and even cosmetic items. At the end of each campaign (although you can access this shop from the menu at any time), I am always excited to see what new things have been revealed in the store.

All in all, I highly recommend this game to anyone who is on the fence about it.

Fun game, not sure why everyone says it is impossibly hard. Maybe I got lucky, but I beat the game on my first run. Will have to play through again to see if RNG was just in my favor.

Either way, the game is fun. It's satisfying to make the right decision and be rewarded for it during your next bout of combat. A lot of my time was spent thinking how to best spec out each character, or what skills best suited their stats. Worth the try for the price!

I like this game a lot because of it's replayability. Don't like the dungeon you are on? No problem, just go until you die, and you will get a whole new one! Don't like your character? Same deal, die, and you get a choice between 3 new ones! I could play this endlessly if I didn't have (somewhat of) a life.
