kind words was a "game" that i happen to run into when i was pretty down on my luck, and i don't think i could've found a better community than the one inside here. essentially sending letters to people and receiving them back if you enter in a request is a simple mechanic that strives greatly because of the people who are playing the game. i've received immense kindness in letters when i put out a request, and i've shared that love back when reading about other people's woes. kind words is a sympathetic and heart warming game about simply, well, being kind. there are little stickers you can collect when people send you letters so that's a nice little goal to go for as well, and for five bucks i think the game is well worth it. the price tag keeps out hostility! compassion isn't a limited resource, so let's get out there and share ours.

i've been waiting for this game for literally several years to come out of a demo phase, and its painful to see little to no progress has developed for this game since then, the developer has had multiple patreons ongoing for years that have had very little to no significant progression in ANY of their projects. the dev quite ironically has milked whatever demographic they were trying to shoot for, for the past 5 years.

as far as the game itself goes, the story is very nonsensical and hard to follow along. its hard to follow the game's main quest but there's a bunch of random niche side quests that are also hard to go along with too, if the frustration from the former wasn't already enough. the translation is a very rough english that isn't even fully completed yet. i quite literally saw a korean character in the dialogue suddenly in one of the dialogue scenes.

the procedural dungeon thing isn't really all that exciting as all the rooms are basically empty and you eventually start seeing the same tile sets after enough time. progressing through the floors is headache inducing as there's only one bg track per dungeon and it loops on room enter. grinding is tedious and not very engaging, and the graveyard completely invalidates the toy factory in terms of money gain.

navigating the starting area (the house) alone is probably the most annoying thing by far. until you memorize the layout of the place, it becomes super confusing on where to go and what can be interacted with. many furniture pieces aren't even colored in and are instead a white silhouette that just resembles furniture. the game at least gives you a contact app to see where people you want to interact with at least, but that's the only real QoL feature you get in the entire game.

questing is ridiculously stupid. its hard to really track what you're supposed to be doing and where you're supposed to be doing it at. some things are only progressed by going through the day and sleeping which isn't explained anywhere. i had to constantly cycle through days waiting and hoping for some interaction to pop up. there is no real way to tell who has something available and what you're supposed to do to make it happen.

i was so attached to this project because i absolutely love the art. its very unique to me and i find it super attractive, but everything else about this game falls apart for me. even the animations in the sex scenes can vary from decently smooth to very rough power point presentation. most of the time, it feels very stiff and robotic.

the style and character design is the only thing that salvages this for me. it appeals to me, but there's definitely a particular demographic its poking at. every character has large breasts so your call on that.

do not buy right now. or at this rate, maybe ever.
