Quite a relaxing game. Not particularly complex or expansive, but quite enjoyable physics and graphics with a relaxing style of gameplay. Hopefully they'll be more tools, ways to deconstruct and demolish and a greater variety of buildings and items added to the game over time.

I saw this game being played on YouTube and I knew I just had to try it. It's deceptively complex and strategic, while also being simple and addictive. It manages to combine strategy and randomness in a kinda' rouge-lite, surreal, quasi-horror package. I'd don't like gambling IRL, but this game is way more than the simple gambling simulator it seems at first. While most of the big developers are focusing on satisfying political agendas and trying not to offend the delicate sensibilities of fragile egos, the little guys are building games based on what is actually fun, rather than what advances a social engineering agenda. Great stuff!

I purchased this purely to thank the Devs for their consistent hard work on making a game I've spent a lot of time enjoying.

I played through the base game twice, the second time completing all of the side and companion quests with a single exception. On average a play-through is about 26 hours, but likely a 30 hour experience on your first run if you do all the side and companion quests and explore a bit too, although exploring doesn't add much.

The price of the game, as of 2024, is usually £25/$32, which means you're getting around £1/$1 an hour of entertainment if you enjoy the game, which is hard to beat for value. In my two play-throughs the game crashed once and other than that it had a bug with weapon upgrades not always displaying in the UI even though they were there.

The story and dialogue is quite well written, the voice acting is very good, the aesthetics are nice, the sound design is good, the graphics are good, the in-game systems are logical and almost entirely intuitive. I had no need to look up anything online to use the in-game systems or complete any amount of the game; it all worked well and made sense.

The NPC walking, interacting and combat animations were a little stiff and the NPC facial expressions in dialogue interactions were also quite stiff and lacked a lot of emotive expression. The NPC face and body designs were well executed, but there wasn't as much variation in body type or face type as there might have been.

There isn't really much to complain about with this game other than it being too short, not open-world enough and not being Fallout New Vegas, but then afaik it doesn't claim to be a 300 hour open-world FONV equivalent, so it's hard to hold that against it. Plus, the space theme was a nice departure from post-apocalypse USA.

Overall, I'd say that the kind of ratings I've seen for the game online of around 86% are fair. Considering the Devs had to invent a whole new thematic universe for the game, I'd say they deserve high marks. If you're expecting FONV in space, you'll probably be disappointed, but if you treat it like the new IP it is, you'll probably enjoy it.

My advice is to take your time, keep an open mind, try to role-play your character within the thematic universe and don't have too many expectations of the experience. I bought the game for £12.49/$16.00 and for that I feel like I got good value for money entertainment wise. I may buy the DLC when it goes on sale at a cheap enough price.

When GTA4 first came out on Steam I bought it, but found that it didn't run very well on my old system, so uninstalled it. Several years later I have a somewhat more modern system and wanted to try the game again as I paid for it and have enjoyed GTA games in the past. I took the 4 hours or so to download it, ran it and now, unlike years ago, there's a game launcher. This is annoying as I already have Steam, so a launcher is a launcher run by a launcher; entirely superfluous.

OK, I understand it, game companies have marketing departments and the people who work in them don't understand that adding launchers on top of launchers is annoying to their customers and they think that launchers are a good way to advertise their products to people who only want to play a game and not be advertised to, but whatever, the world is full of highly-paid, degree-educated, Dunning–Kruger effect suffering, entitled midwits, c'est la vie.

Oh, but a launcher is not enough, not only do Rockstar believe I need a launcher on top of a launcher, they think I need online DRM on top of online DRM and indeed, a login account on top of a login account, for a single-player game. What’s the point of Steam then? So, I looked into ways to circumvent this nonsense, why should a paying customer be inconvenienced and have to share their data to use what they paid for? It’s just a game, a way to help alleviate the depressing burdens of the human condition by adding a bit of levity to life; it’s a thing made by humans to help amuse and entertain other humans, not corporate accounting software, a military network, or a scientific research program.

People online seem to think I can run the game without the launcher, additional DRM and account by fooling the game to think it's running at some time in the past. Maybe this worked at some point, but this is 2024 and this no longer works, at least not for me. Alternatively I have the option to downgrade the game using some software some random guy on a forum made; that doesn’t sound at all sketchy... Yeah, I'm OK, I'll just settle for not playing the game I paid for and I will punish Rockstar for their choices by never buying a game from them ever again. I will never buy GTA5, any other GTA game, or any product made by Rockstar, I'm done, last time I get I scammed by them.

The greatest irony of all of this is, of course, that the actual pirates, the people who are smart enough and motivated enough to hack the game and deny the developers the money they earned developing the game, will be entirely unaffected by all of this. They will get hold of the game files, modify the code, or else find some other method to avoid paying and they will get to enjoy the game, for free, whereas honest people who bought it, like me, will have to contend with the DRM on DRM and launchers on launchers and giving our data away, or otherwise simply not play the game we paid for.

When will developers learn that DRM only hurts honest, paying customers, not hackers, not pirates, not thieves, not criminals, just the honest people who bought the product. It's not like Rockstar are a struggling business either, in 2024 they made $2.29 billion ($2,290 million) in profits. I'm not against people making lots of money, good for them, but GTA4 is an old game and has made the bulk of the money it's going to, Rockstar could have removed the superfluous DRM, launcher and account requirements for their 16 year old game as a courtesy to their customers, a wise public relations move, a way to improve their public image, but no, it appears that their foolish, myopic avariciousness knows no bounds. Oh well, maybe it's for the best I stop being a customer; it’s not like they need my custom anyway.

If you can look past the blatant social engineering propaganda injected into the game, you'll find underneath it a great tactical experience with a fair strategic element. Sadly, the propaganda element also comes with a side of poorly written story and lacklustre music, but the voice acting is good, some of the sound assets are great, the graphics are good, the game mechanics are good and the game has few perceptible bugs.

Chimera Squad is not as engaging or compelling as XCOM EU/EW/2 were, but it's not trying to be those games, it's a departure from them in many ways and while it is set in the same universe and uses much of the same assets and mechanisms from XCOM 2, it's not supposed to be military or paramilitary in nature, it's supposed to have a kind of policing/SWAT character and seems to be set between XCOM 2 and what will be XCOM 3 in the universe's timeline.

Overall I'd say it's worth about $25/£20, whereas XCOM 2/EU were worth about $45/£35 each, so if you can get Chimera Squad for around $15/£10 and can overlook the social engineering propaganda and not-great story, it's worth the money for a game you can probably sink around 100 hours into if you enjoy tactical games in the XCOM vein, set in the XCOM universe. Anything less than $15/£10 for it on a sale will very likely be a good purchase for most people who enjoyed XCOM 2/EW/EU.

I have played Civilization since Civ 1 and this latest version is an iterative improvement over its predecessors as of its state in 2023. With the advent of digital distribution and DLC, no Civ game has been complete on launch and as such each new version has been inferior to its predecessor on launch. After the first expansion, Civ games usually improve enough to be considered at least as good as their predecessor and by the second expansion are usually better. As long as the core game principles and functions that define Civ remain, the game has endless scope and will always have a paying audience.

I started playing this game for the first time in 2023 and found it to be well worth the money and quite an enjoyable experience. After around 180 hours, I will gladly recommend this game to anybody who enjoys games in this genre.

As of early September 2016, this is the only DLC for XCOM 2 I can actually recommend. It adds the missing robotic soldier to the game, has a pretty good and fairly challenging mission and one cut scene in it almost made me cry.

Overall pretty good, but like all DLC, wait for a sale. £7.99 (or your regional equivalent) is not worth the content you get. £4.99 is more reasonable in my opinion, so anything around that or less, I'd recommend you snap it up.

Improves the base game by about 10% overall and adds content that really should have been there to start.
