I love Digimon, and I've been waiting for this game for a few years now. It didn't disappoint me at all, but it's definitely a niche title. I'll write a more in-depth review after I finish the campaign.

As a long time lover of comic books, I always love those stories which fixate on normal humans in a superhero-filled world. They can bring a lot of intrigue and heart to what can feel like a disconnected universe. Henchman Story is not that, but it's a logical next step to that kind of story.

What if you were a career henchman? That's the question this game asks. But instead of feeling like a cog in the war machine of some threatening villain, the player feels like a character in Office Space. Stan (the protagonist) is normal, bored guy who's just good enough at his job to keep and just smart enough to know not to put any more effort in. His coworkers annoy him. His boss is incompetent. He's just looking forward to Friday's game night. Take away the purple spandex, and that's a lot of us.

Through the lens of Stan's sarcasm, Henchman Story pokes fun at the genre every chance it gets. Despite that, it's clear that the devs really do love what they're parodying. The chapters are called "issues". The save menu looks like a shelf of comic books. All it's missing is a bubble-letter "BAM" every time someone takes a punch.

The voice acting's pretty good too. I'm not accustomed to English voice over in visual novels, but everyone here does great. It's clear they were going to "cartoony" in some places and more grounded in others. I like that contrast, but I can see it not jiving with some.

I won't spoil much about the story as the game's not terribly long. At the time of writing this, I'm about three hours in and I've gotten my first ending. It's clear to me that there's at least one or two other major routes that I can take. There's likely also a handful of joke endings based on the options I've been given. I'm probably looking at a total run time of 7-10 hours depending on how much content is reused.

In my mind, this is maybe one to two steps away from being a perfect monster-raising JRPG. I highly recommend it, especially if you're feeling some fatigue from the genre.

Let me just say that this game is fun. Is it pretty fun? Yeah. But it's way more expensive than that fun allows.

The races feel repetitive due to a limited number of tracks, and your enemies are just 3D diamonds. So there's no variety in your tracks or enemies, meaning the biggest source of play is the mech editor. If that's your thing, great. It wasn't my thing and it was hard for me to get more than a couple hours out of it.

A good $2-3 buy though.

UPDATE: After spending considerably more time with NimbleWriter, I've decided to update my review. As of this review, I've put in about 24 hours.
The Good:
- Nimble Writer keeps track of how many words and characters that you've logged on that session of writing which is handy if you're writing on a schedule.
- Nimble Writer lets you encrypt your data, which is handy if you're paranoid. But I feel like the inclusion of this feature is a necessity because of Steam Terms of Service, so it feels bittersweet.
- Tons of user-created content from background skins to technical addons.
- NW allows you to create metadata about your files, which is good for exporting your work for commercial uses.
- There's a built in notes system to help you keep track of stuff.
- NW separates chapters out in the same story, but under different "tabs" which decreases how much you have to look at at once.
- No automatic spell-checking. This is going to be in both the good and bad. I know what I'm saying in 'The Bad', and all of that's true. But I've found that not worrying about spelling everything perfect the first time is actually helping my productivity. And I'm going to have to edit anyway.
- The character templates that you can create are based off .json files, which you can create your own of. So for instance, if I was writing an Avatar TLA fanfic, I could create a field for "Bending type" to help keep all aspects of my side characters straight. I haven't delved into this too much yet, but it's a feature I'm excited to explore.
- The size of the notes sub-pannel can be changed and the notes themselves can be quickly toggled on/off with the press of a button.
- Makes some pretty decent looking PDFs out of your meta data, including title page and chapter shortcuts.

The Bad:
- No automatic spell-checking. I'm allowed to type "adsfjaw3eirferbga" and NW is fine with that until I ask for a spell check. This proceeds to check my whole file and dump all spelling errors on me. That's a big downside to anyone constructing their own terminology.
- NW keeps track of word count in a weird way. Personally, I like to double space after periods, and this threw off my word count. I've since stopped doing that, much to my chagrin.
- The cloud support is based off Steam, meaning that you can only work on any machine that has Steam downloaded. This is a lot bigger of an upfront ask than what I think the competitor (Google Drive) has.

My Takeaway:
After forcing myself to spend a little time with NimbleWriter, I feel a lot more positively about it. Getting some more experience with the notes and character systems, I think that NW has a lot to offer if you give its systems a try. I had my own way of doing things, but I'm coming around to having everything in one place. I recommend this for writing. For editing, I'm thinking you should probably take your NW generated text over to Google Docs or Microsoft word.

Hello. I've been enjoying this game and I just wanted to point out some of the highlights, as well as address some of the mehs.

Pros:
Unique combat system: A pretty clean hero shooter on the surface, but has a deep CQC system which it incorporates by being the only way to get more ammo. So in order to get the most out of any character, you have to work with the CQC system, their gun, and their ability.

Solid RPG Progression: Each character has multiple guns which can be bought and upgraded based on your forge level. Each gun gives unique choices based on what cards you want to select for your character. Cards and blueprints are earned through faction points, which you get for playing that character. Basically, playing the characters you like lets you have more options for how to build them.

High Quality Graphics: No, this game doesn't give RDR2 a run for its money visually. But, it does look damn good for a free to play game, and enviornments aren't reused. You can tell that every mission is worked on to be really fleshed out.

Mission Variety: There's currently 21 missions, and all of them that I've played are a little different. Sure they have some basic themes and fit the core mechanics of the game (aleph), but the variety of objectives and maps means that you can choose your character to best fit the mission.

Well Integrated PVP: Normally a team of four raiders attempts a PVE mission. You have the option to queue up as an "antagonist" with the goal of forcing them to fail the mission. There's some good balance to make up for the 1v4, and fans of PVP seem to really enjoy it. (I'm not a big fan of PVP, so I stick to queueing as a raider). However, at the end of mission rewards, the raider team is given bonuses basedo n the MMR of the antagonist. This means that if you overcome a really power player, you're rewarded for it.

Non-predatory microtransactions: Everything in this game can (and most have to) be earned by playing the game. The only thing you can buy with money is gold (the basic currency). With gold you can buy exp boosts and the like, but you can't buy blueprints or upgrades or anything like that. Definitely optional and not pay to win.

Mehs:
Community Size: A lot of reviews are discussing how small the community is and saying that this game is dead. I urge you to find the Space Lords discord. This game can be confusing and the queues can be slow, but the discord has a thriving community of people who are generally willing to play and give advice to newbies.

Cons:
Some bugs/unexpected interactions: There are some times where if you don't know how things interact you can feel a bit cheated (i.e. a repulse field didn't work on a certain enemy). But it seems to be consistent (the repulse has never worked on that enemy). There's also some bugginess which just comes from a game that's being actively developed, but the devs have a pretty open reporting system.

Tutorial: The game doesn't have a gameplay tutorial, instead opting for videos to explain the game's concepts. This can be good for some people who just want to get to the meat of the game, but I was not a fan.

All considered, I'd say the game's worth a shot. If co-op shooters aren't your thing, this game isn't going to change that.

I'm mostly doing this for the badge. But this game does a lot of fun things and is a pretty nice narrative. Controls in some of the mini games are sometimes wonky, but eventually okay once you get used to them.

I think the first one is better in terms of story, but I watched that anime so the story was kind of ruined.

Incredibly worth if you can get it for $15 or less.

This game is really fun, but wait until it's on sale. I would play it more if I had a friend to play with.
