Definitely my game of the year for 2024!

edit: Running Great on Manjaro Linux too! (Proton 9.0.3) (vast majority of time playing on Window 10 Pro, recently started up Manjaro)

Wildcard come clean about Cosmo. You owe it to your fan who created the original which I voted for multiple times. It should absolutely be up to the creator whether or not it is offered as part of the bob's tall tales dlc which I paid for. If they say no, it should be removed and replaced with something else. THE VERY LEAST you should do is give them the credit they deserve.

(12/23/24) Still have issues with where they got the concept of the Cosmo, but the pack itself represents a great value for what you get. Switching to recommended.

This will be an ongoing review. I will update as more patches are applied just as I did with ASE.

It is very familiar. It is a game I love with an updated look and refined game systems. Yeah, it's more demanding on my system. With a 6700XT and an 8th Gen Intel 8700K, I can get 40-50fps with a few things like volumetric clouds and fog disabled. It's playable, and I have been enjoying my time. The added density of forests really changes gameplay for the good.

It's an early access game that was launched before it was ready as an early access game...so it's buggier than the typical early access game. Thanks Nitrado for screwing over the devs and the community by forcing them to launch it in this state. Never forget that betrayal. The devs are working their asses off to fix the broken state of the game. They just need time.

The first thing I came to love about the new game mechanics was the building system. It's less glitchy than the previous. It minimizes the parts you need to unlock. It just works better in may ways. However, the integration of some s+ stuff leaves some stuff to be desired. Stacking foundations (regular and fence) needs to be added. It's difficult building without that. As soon as Super Structures makes it over, I will be using it to add in the stuff that is missing with the s+ integration.

On the babies....wild babies changes gameplay for the good. It opens up possibilities to get tames before you're able to properly tame them. It can be difficult knocking out certain tames (or taming them passively), but finding a baby just requires you to take out the parents to claim them. That can be difficult, as they like to run off in the middle of the fight.

A couple of bugs I regularly run into:
-[stike]Floating babies...they float off, only stopped by roofs put over them. Temporary bug until they grow to adulthood. Tell them to follow and they'll stop floating for good. (1/4/24) I don't see this nearly as often these days...but it still happens sometimes.[/strike] Fixed. the parent still fall through floors partially, but it's usually manageable.
-When hopping off tames you sometimes get put into a permanent k mode until you log out. This happens quite often so it's annoying when it happens. It can sometimes happen in very inopportune times...which can be frustrating. This has been fixed...thankfully.
-(1/4/24)Something I forgot to mention in my original review: random graphical glitches involving armor...more noticable with the santa outfit. Not major glitches, just occasionally the armor will show up on the sides of the screen more than it really should.
-The game client still crashes somewhat regularly, but not enough to really be annoying. Minor annoyance, if anything. (1/4/24) Happens particularly when frame drops happen...when action is intense. Most of the time, this is an inopportune moment. Frustrating when it happens. Resolved this...my video card was overheating. Keeping the fans running higher to keep the card cooler eliminated the crashes.

I've been playing on my own private dedicated server with a few people. My server has been stable, with no major issues popping up. That or single player is the only way I recommend playing right now. Official looks too much like a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ (1/4/24 - getting better, but still a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ to me) to be worth it right now. Find a good unofficial server to play on and you'll be happy. Wait for fixes for official. They are definitely coming, but it's going to be a slow road.

(1/4/24) Love the mod system for events. It means I can run both Turkey Trial and Wintersday alongside each other. Not all events may work together, but these do. Only possible off official servers.

(12/23/24) I have switched to play ASA on Manjaro Linux. So far it is running quite well. No complaints. With Extinction dropping though I encountered a bug which causes my Center and Scorched Earth servers on my cluster to reset to day 1. As I was using Center as the map for my main base, I'm having to move to a different server so I can wipe that server and clear whatever is cauing the reset. Restoring from backup is only a tempoary measure.

Continue to stay away from Official, it's still a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Between the servers struggling with the load, the idiots playing PVE like it's PVP, and the other idiots pillaring the maps to hell and back...it's just not worth it. Unofficial and Single Player is the only way to go. Self-hosting your own server that you own is by far the best way to play.

70 hours in....just starting to add some mods....Quality of Life stuff.
Is this game perfect? No, far from it. I'm having a blast playing it. I wanted Fallout in Space, I got Fallout in Space. This is no doubt a Bethesda game. I look forward to playing this for years to come.
The only real gripe I have is the lack of good travel options on planets, but I understand why they did it.

Will update this as I play more.

I love stealth games. I didn't get into the Hitman series until Hitman 2 came out (though I had bought both well before I started playing them, knowing I would probably love them). I instantly fell in love with the series. Got 3 when it came out and played through a few of the story missions at first, but put it down and went on to other games. I cam back when Freelancer was dropped...love that mode. Difficult by excellent. Endless replayability. So many options for completing missions. There is some repetition and some bugs in Freelancer, but they are tolerable. Overall, it is a positive addition to the game, though I wish all maps and their variants were included.

See below original review for what I think of what Take 2 did to this game.
Original review: I recommend this game now if you have a thick skin for early access. The game has plenty of issues and some "improvements" that have been made need to be rethought (parts manager and the manuever nodes are two pain points right now). That said, I'm enjoying my time so far. If you are not able to play and deal with the bugs and the Kraken (which definitely reared its head) without getting frustrated or angry, then you need to wait longer to play. If you're willing to deal with it and even provide constructive feedback to the devs, then I recommend it.

I only see this getting better from here. It's pretty bare bones right now, but the base gameplay is there. With help from the community this will be even better than the original. If you're willing to help, I recommend this. If not, then wait for it to leave early access.

I'm in for the long haul and will be updating this review as I play and as patches are introduced.

edit: Sigh...if only Take 2 had a thicker skin to ride out the rough parts.

Just no. 6700XT with settings adjusted to the minimums is not a playable framerate. Probably works on nvidia cards just fine but I wouldn't try this on AMD cards with anything but the latest cards.

I'm still trying to get through this game. I love the game....but it just triggers my fear of deep water...because I know what's down there in this game. Might not be the best game if you suffer from that fear like I do, but if you can manage it, it'll get your heart racing with fear, dread, and terror of what lurks in the water.
The game itself is well done. I've been playing since early access and have seen it grow into what it is. I still haven't managed to complete the story yet, but I'm giving it a shot again. If you love building and exploring, this is a good game for you. This is a good game to challenge your fear of deep water....as it has that in spades.

I haven't played in a while, but I have played this on and off since the beta in 2003. This game was the single most invested I've ever gotten in game in my life. I can't comment on the current state, because I don't play anymore. It's a space sandbox with territorial control. Graphics are still great after all these years because they continue to update them. You want a player run economy....you have it. You want pvp...plenty of it to go around. You want to chill out and mine, you can do that too. The rewarding gameplay is there if you put the time and effort into it. Yeah it's a spreadsheet heavy game because of the complexity of the game. Any game with enough complexity will do that. It doesn't have to be that though. It is what you make of it.

Work, eat, play, sleep, repeat....for 6 months. That was my time in null sec. I was part of a corp which joined an alliance that controlled some null sec space for about 6 months. I'm mostly a pve player...so I took up the role of mining director for the corp. The small time industrialist. I mined null sec for about 5 months. I helped defend our space. I went out on patrols. I went on alliance ops to fight on the other side of the map for allies.

Ultimately, the alliance collapsed, and I was stuck in null sec with the Charon I had built there. I was working on making it a Jump freighter, but it was taking too much time. So I loaded up what I could in the Charon, and parked it in a station...then started scanning for wormholes. It took me 2 weeks to find it, but I found a wormhole big enough with a link another wormhole that had a link to low sec. The Porkchop Express survived the trip, collapsing wormholes on the way, and is parked in a high sec station to live out it's life.

I did my time in EVE. I had a lot of fun, but I'm not really aiming to go back to that life.

The accuracy of the hours is definitely off...it is much higher considering most of my time played was with a client not through Steam.

I love stealth action games. I had not played a single Hitman game until this one despite having gamed since before the original came out in 2000. I always knew I would love them from what I saw. I was not disappointed. Starting with this one and moving forward through the trilogy. The variety of ways to play each level supplies plenty of opportunity to try something different. AI can be comically inept, but that's just ads to the fun sometimes. The amount of stuff to do is amazing. I also see player generated content which I haven't even touched yet....so after I get through the campaign, I'll delve into that a bit and maybe try to build some of my own levels.
