Performance is still a bust, and game still crashes during matches, even tested between 3 entirely separate systems. A new coat of paint and a name change is all this Splitgate Arena Reloaded is.

At it's core, it's still the same broken & unoptimized facade that was "Splitgate 2".

This will never live up to what Wormhole Wars/Splitgate 1 was...

I Live... Again!... AGAIN!

MUCH better than Fresh Supply, as this one was re-built entirely with the original source-code!

Fresh Supply, the first remaster Nightdive did of BLOOD, was a broken and unbalanced mess built on reverse-engineering the original DOS game, as they didn't have the original source-code available to them.

This re-building-from-source is exactly why Refreshed Supply couldn't have been an update to the existing (and now entirely deprecated) Fresh Supply. This new version also includes cross-platform multiplayer, native controller support, built-in mod support, and includes the official Marrow expansion!

Anyone giving this new remaster a negative review are either parroting someone else's bad take, salty for having to pay a measly $10 previous-owner discount from owning Fresh Supply; or simply have no idea what the actual important and drastic differences are between this and the previous awful release.

The Positive
I really want to love this game - because what is here is so darn good. The environment, the aesthetic, the world-building; my god is it a gorgeous game. When it works, the immersion and tension build up is f*ing OUTSTANDING. Truly, well done. I loved it so much, I did a second playthrough with my wife so she could experience it on the living room TV. I sincerely want to congratulate the developer on a job well-done (I've been waiting to play this since the 2012 Green Light reveal)

So why no recommendation?
Well -
The Negatives
- Can't rebind all keyboard keys (had to use a controller because I don't have a standard QWERTY keyboard, and need to rebind "WASD").
- Pitch black rooms/hallways, but no way to turn on flashlight (only auto turns-on once in a vent scene)
- Only 2 "enemies" (first one is just copy/pasted in multiples) *nitpick
- Story almost seems well fleshed out, but then just dumps on that with the entire second half of the game. *nitpick
- Tons of AI pathing bugs (see you through walls and B-line straight for you. AI getting glitched halfway into corners/walls breaking the whole immersion).

The game unfortunately still feels like it needs some time to bake, even after the troubled 12 years of on-and-off development it's been stuck in - and in that time frame, we've had more fleshed-out and longer titles developed entirely by solo developers.

It's really a shame we never got the original vision of ROUTINE though, which originally advertised:
- Non-Linear Gameplay – Players aren’t forced to follow a set path and are allowed to explore each section of the base at their leisure.
- Original Game Mechanics – Routine‘s Full-Body Awareness mechanics make for a realistic experience: dead zone aiming with no HUD’s immerse players into the game. Gamers must utilize their stealth skills and their wits in order to survive whatever lurks within the base.
- Look before you Leap! – No health-packs, extra lives, and permanent-death system keeps players on-edge, making them weigh their decisions carefully.
- Multiple Endings – View different endings that are based on in-game actions.

Someday, I'd really love to see Lunar Software's next title - hopefully just not another decade too late.

Yet another awful release for the industry.
- Game breaking bugs because AI partner will softlock during an animation to the point that no player input will register.
- No local/split-screen co-op, and the multiplayer coop either won't connect at all, or keeps dropping connection.

An actual return to form. This is, so far, is everything we all wanted DL2 to be (let's be honest, DL2 sucked). Game runs crazy well too! Highly recommend.

Thankfully, we can still play the better Early Access version of the game, that has almost twice the content and better level design!

Directions:
Download the Early Access version via Steam Console.

Open the Run command (Windows Key + R) and input:

steam://nav/console

Then in the Steam Console terminal, input the following command:

download_depot 2172260 2172261 7175120733322222104

This will download the last Early Access version of the game from 19 July 2023, which was the latest version prior to the 1.0 release this year.

Once the specific depot version downloads, look at the console readout to where the files have been downloaded to. By default, this should be
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\content\app_2172260\depot_2172261"

Now you have a backup of the last version of The Complex: Expedition and can archive it to keep.

**To play this version, you need to have The Complex: Expedition installed. Delete all the files in the game's directory, and then simply drop in all the files from the Early Access depot you just downloaded. Should just launch right from your Steam Library.

Worse game than the Early Access version
Man, what the actual F happened here? Talk about a rug pull. The Early Access version of this game was AWESOME, and way longer than than 1.0 release. Almost every single one of the changes made to this game have sadly ruined it.

I'm honestly just baffled.

Needs a ton of work. This should be labeled as Early Access, since the Demo feels like a late alpha build, or at best, an early beta build. Demo crashes to desktop with no error every 15 mins without fail, regardless of how high or low settings are. During those 15 mins, the game does run very smoothly though. No option to rebind movement keys - It's a "Controller-First" oriented game. No option to adjust FOV either.

The game isn't open-world by any definition. It's small sandbox missions you deploy to from a hub, very much like a 2015 mobile game.

Will be keeping my eye on this one, as I was initially very interested in it. So far though; I'm not impressed.
