Coming straight out of MW5 Mercenaries the first thing you will notice is the completely different control scheme and (pretty good) visuals. The "modern" control scheme comes from a somewhat logical understanding of how bipedal legs for enormous tanks aught to function, you have more control over your inertia, and you are able to bob and weave in between buildings and cover more easily, if you prefer the classic controls though they are available.

Youll find that time to kill is extremely short, comically short even compared to MW5, noting enemy damage zones or memorizing their weapon hardpoints is pretty much completely pointless because you can core or headshot them in about 1.5 seconds regardless of what class of mech they, or you are. I found myself only ever targeting the weapons of hunchbacks and the rare panther, otherwise it was always core or head depending on my loadout. This extremely short time to kill completely changes the feel of the game, and is arguably understandable given the supposed technological superiority clan mechs are meant to have at the time but the feeling of being overpowered compared to other mechwarrior games sometimes made me miss the more tactical combat of Mechwarrior 5/mercs. I for one, enjoyed identifying mechs and their unique quirks and attempting to disarm them surgically.

The story was fine, its a mechwarrior game, you're not here to get novel quality writing you're here to make a laser boat and pop heads. I will say that while the unique culture of the clans is on full display, I found it somewhat hard to take seriously at moments.

Overall the game is good, but has a completely different feel to the other mechwarrior games I've played that can be accurately described as "arcade like". I see no reason to buy the dlc.

Better than the first game by a significant margin already. Beware though, updates are extremely slow and don't offer a large amount of content due to the developers being a 3 man team so if you end up not liking it you should refund it fast as the gameplay isn't going to be changing much.
