I bought this to play with my wife, when it was listed as a multiplayer game. Two months later the dev announced he was dropping multiplayer entirely. I realize things change in early access but I'm terribly disappointed and feel like I wasted my money.

I got this game in a bundle, but I think it's probably still worth the original cost if it's your type of game. Especially worth it if you get it during a sale. I know my profile says I only played 13 hours, but actually I played over 50 hours (maybe much more- it was my main played game for over two weeks), and played all the way through the main quest line. I just played it offline so it did not register in Steam.

The game has farming, animal raising, gathering, fishing, crafting and cooking elements. The game play for the cooking is probably the best implemented of any in-game cooking I've ever done. It is simple to learn, fun to master, with tons of variation of ingredients, and bonuses to using certain ingredients, which makes the cooking very strategic at times. Cooking also uses a bit of math skill, so could be considered mildly educational. Uses good thinking skills to develop a high point recipe.

The game also has quite a bit of story, and tons of dialogue. If you don't like reading the dialogue, you can always skip through it frame by frame. The writing is good, and there are some pretty decent jokes, but the sheer amount of dialogue can be tedious.

The main point of all the farming and gathering is to use those ingredients to cook. Each dish is made up of three ingredients, and each ingredient has 3 aspects it is judged on. Each ingredient also belongs to two families, which may be what the judge is looking for, or may unlock a synergy with another ingredient.

Levelling up your Chef Level unlocks new synergies between ingredients, and you level up by eating a meal once a day (meal points are multiplied by the amount of built up multiplier points you've generated by doing activities around your farm and interacting with townsfolk). However, once you have reached level 60 (which does take a goodly while), this whole aspect of the game play disappears, and you have no reason anymore to eat daily, or build up multiplier points. Which means a whole aspect of the game is no longer relevant and that's unfortunate.

There are a lot of cooking battles, where the judge might have certain preferences and dislikes that help or hurt your overall score. Main quest line cooking battles are how to advance the main quest line, and there are also side quests of advancing in the 3 different cooking leagues, which all have battles by cooking 1-3 dishes per battle, and beating their dishes in point score.

The pacing of unlocking new things was really well done. I was constantly engaged and excited about new ingredients and cooking options. Fishing unlocked a whole lot of new options too, and unlike some other fishing mini games (I have very bad hand eye coordination), this one was totally playable for a person with very limited skill.

Very relaxed atmosphere... Nothing is really on a required timer. Somethings need to be done at a certain time of day, but if you miss that time, you can just wait until the next day.

One con of the game: Slow Speed. walking can kind of take too long, although you can pretty quickly unlock a mount that allows you to travel much faster. Cut scenes are painfully slow at times, and unskippable, but it's tolerable for sure.

To the developer, I would ask that if they ever still work on the game, to implement something that makes levelling up still relevant. Like maybe one could unlock bonuses at different levels, like increased run speed, or inventory bonuses. QOL improvements.

All in all, this game was a lot of fun, and should be playable by just about everyone. I feel like I definitely got my money's worth and look forward to any future games by this developer.

This game is highly addictive. You start out simple with a few resources and a few products. As you advance down the tech tree you build more and more complex items until you end up with a huge sprawling factory with a spaghetti of conveyors belts everywhere.

So you quit the game in frustration, but end up lying in bed at night thinking about how to do it better next time. The next day you'll fire up the game again.

I know you will. I did.

Great game. Similar to the first but with extras. The resource tree has been expanded and the addition of separate islands and boats keeps it interesting.

Amazing game that I just can't stop playing. Rimworld has become my most played game by far, with over 600 hours spent playing.
