If you played GhostX back in the day, Closers is pretty similar but feels a little less complex. In GhostX, you could swap weapon types to change the gameplay, but in Closers, you're stuck with the skills your character has. Otherwise, it's an easy, mindless beat-'em-up.
Not gonna bother talking about the cash shop; I'm only here to review gameplay.

Cute spooks and light jumpscares but baffling at times. Wish it had more music though.

111111111111/20 would write a glitched poem again
Disclaimer: there are cupcakes (with cat faces!) served at some point but no pictures of said cupcakes, yet the game depicts cake icing and chocolate and a bottle of apple juice. Demerit for lack of cupcake images. :V

Preface:
I only played part of the first episode of this game, so I feel that this review is no better than judging a book by its cover. Ignore me if you want, but I have my gripes about this game based on my tastes.

I could not further invest myself into this game.
I had supposedly exhausted all the possible actions you could do after hitting the fire alarm and going outside to talk to people. After heading to see Warren to hand him the flash drive, and after I spent my time forcibly butting my nose into two-and-a-half girl dramas, I had to stop playing. My completionist attitude ruined me: I had missed a few of the memento photos Max could take if you did certain actions, and I wanted to rewind to get them. (Maybe I'm being petty here, but going into this game without knowing how it works ruined the experience.) Of course, that's not how the game works. "Rewind" just means "undo your last significant action," and if that doesn't include moving to the next area because an invisible narrative (and temporal) wall prevents me from doing so -- if the game wants to force me to go back to the beginning, just to get those photos, I'd ask for a refund so that my time wasn't for naught (joke's on me; this was free). Completionists might not agree with me on this, but a lot of things you collect in other games are unimportant or supplementary -- it's just to put a trophy on your wall -- but no one appreciates having their work thrown out the window. The mechanics are not my only complaint, and it certainly isn't the most important.

The narrative and the characters.
I know they're supposed to be stereotypical/archetypical high school students (though why from a private academy?), but almost every person you can interact with comes off as some facet of the word "a-hole." These conversations were unbearable, not because they're cringey since I'm past high school now, but because they make it seem like you're wasting your time talking to these people. This is likely the persepctive you're supposed to adopt playing as Max, but even Max is a problem! She is literally sitting on the moral fence for most of the choices that matter, and given your time rewind powers, shouldn't she get a different perspective and decide from there? Like, give the player another option to choose?... Who, me? I'm supposed to make the binary decision for her since I'm the player? I get to make her as much as a pushover as everyone else is because she's just a dumb, antisocial high school girl? This is more polarizing than Mass Effect's paragon/renegade options! Thanks, devs, for genuinely making me feel how and what Max feels, but I don't like this kind of character. I guess I prefer blank slates over loaded or insiginificant backgrounds, but Max has far too much on her plate to deal with and too few utensils for you to eat it all up.

I don't believe I entered the game with false expectations. Everyone says this game will make me cry if I play in its entirety, and I bet it would because, according to my predictions, Max won't be able to save X person since her powers can only do so much or they stop working -- she has to live with the consequences and now hangs around in mental limbo, beating herself up (boohoo). However, I can't say that my tears shed for the first episode were empathetic. Now this review makes me sound like an angsty teenager. God, how I wish that weren't true.

P.S.: I didn't want to include this in the meat of my review, but goodness gracious, the graphics are horribly old. I suppose the polishing budget was spent on the film treatment-like visual effects, which were admittedly very nice.
(Begin edit) I should also note that though I appreciate the devs' attention to detail, so much more could have been done with all the things with which you can interact. Additionally, I didn't want to complain about all the social pandering either, yet it's worth noting how this game is far too representative of modern society for my liking. (End edit)

Part 1: Rakka
Pretty good, and a very interesting sci-fi apocalypse concept. Thoroughly spooked by the CG gore/body horror imagery. Didn't expect to see Sigourney Weaver, though, but that's a plus. I wonder if they'll make a full film or series on this.

Part 1.5: Cooking with Bill
I'd rather not spoil the entirety of this short, but I have to, so here's a summary: product advertisement on TV gone horribly wrong.
(Will update this review as the next volumes are added)

I died a lot. I enjoyed dying.
Two things that would make this game even better: a boss rush mode, and maybe a gunplay challenge or series of time trials.

Edit: Gaaaaah I lost my saves because my computer had a system failure a while ago. And now there's co-op that I have yet to try out.

I could only manage to finish the tutorial, then kept dying during the first level becaue I kept messing up the controls even after reconfiguring. The Cyber Interface mechanic would probably be considered balderdash in modern games. But I wish I had the manual for this game to keep playing it.
10/10 should have bought from GOG instead
1/10 unspeakably difficult controls (how did anyone even manage to play this back in 1999)
