Overly complicated without proper tutorial, unbalanced at many points (both ways), and gameplay core is just too random while lacking some obvious fuctions.
I tried to like it, but it simply does not click, I am not enjoying the game, which is very rare when I try new title.
Cant really recommend.

Improvements at every step compared to first game. Devs really played their own game and/or listened to players.
Much smoother game flow, more content, new game mechanics, better visuals.
This is what a sequel should look like.

I have not played much yet, but I am so pleased with the game already, that until I find some major flaw, this review will stay positive.

I wanted to like this one, as it looks nice and with decent amount of content, but it is just too tedious and unbalanced to be fun. Some card mechanics deserve redesign and better explanations. And card type distribution system feels broken sometimes. It definitely needed to spend some more time in gameplay testing.
Also not receiving any imperial resource from WHOLE 2+ hour expedition chain, if you fail on last mission (instead of ending it yourself turn before defeat) is just table flipping stupid. Especially for rogue like game.
Maybe I will check on it later if anything improved, but for now I refunded. Sorry.

I would say its a puzzle game with city builder visual theme, and easy to understand game principles. Basically you are placing buildings with adjacency bonuses, on various small islands, you get score for it, unlock more buildings to place, and so on.
It is comfortable to play, while maintaining satisfactory level of increasing difficulty, and that is probably the reason, why you can spend hours playing it. And do so without being bored, and still feel like relaxing.
Visually its well done blend of simple models and textures with smooth lightning and rendering. Designs of puzzle pieces (buildings) are easy to recognize, and feel warm and sharp. Its mostly static, with a few, mostly ambient and interface movements.
Music and sounds are good fit, and support the general feeling of a game, but that is all.

For what can be improved - placement of buildings could be more spacially flexible, especially when you lack some very thin space to place something, that looks like should fit alright.
Also building variations will wear off after some time. And authors could implement some feedback from players in terms of bonuses and adjacency range - it could be improved to generate even more believable city structure.

For current low price Islanders is very nicely done game, and so I can recommend it.


Also I want to point out its download is just 120 MB large! Which is absolutely unseen in these times, even for a games with less advanced graphics and content. I know it has no impact on gameplay, but still impressive feat.

Very original concept, very nice visual style, silly humor, wacky characters, point and click adventure with some design twists. Deponia is must play for anyone who likes classic puzzle adventures.
Main character Rufus is very chatty and chaotic, and if you dont like him from start its alright. But his lazy, self-centered, and stupid personality will probably grow on you, and you will be curious what next catastrophe he will bring on others and himself. And he definitely has a bit of a good heart, that allows you to like him, or at least pity him. But you will probably pity everyone around him, so there will be nothing left for Rufus.
Puzzles tend to be hard from beggining and easier later, maybe depending on how you get used to games logic, but almost always they make some sense. So you need to use walkthrough very rarely. Of course you need to think hard and use your imagination and association capabilities to maximum, and you will be stuck sometimes, but I think its worth of feeling your own success.
Story is pretty straightforward in its core, but with a lot of complications and sidetracks along the way. So brace yourself for a short (50 hours), but very eventful ride, that will feel like a weeks in the end. I would like to be more specific, sadly I fear of spoiling something even in general sense, so I will restrain myself from that. It is a well-thoughtout, humorous story, with good ideas, and some surprises, easy to remember characters and funny interactions between them. I noticed some people didnt like the ending, but I believe it was decent, and the sequel "Deponia Doomsday" addressed it very well.
I definitely can recommend this game.

Oh, and I want to give a shout out to artists on this project, because game looks visually amazing, with a lot of details, consistent theme and functional composition. It was pleasure to look at all the work they have done.

Wow, just finished the game, and I have to tell you, it was great ending to the series.
It was true Deponia with silly humor, very talkative characters and beautiful visual style. There were some less fluid bits and sometimes too easy puzzles, but storywise, it was stronger than previous parts (as any final chapter of any story should be). It strung very well on nostalgic feeling toward old characters and locations, while not overusing them all - just to keep things familiar and beliavable, and there was a lot of new things so it feels like a new game. It is also commendable how well executed was whole time travel theme, both in terms of gameplay and keeping logic of story, and of course of jokes. Overall its short game, like 15 hours tops, but with a lot of love put into it. So I strongly recommend it, after playing previous parts.
In the end, hardest part was to let go. And I did. With a smile and teary eye.

This is probably the Best Tower Defense game there currently is. Nothing special here. :D

It is comparable in quality with Kingdom Rush, but (much) more complex, and way darker in style. Other than that, there is simply no relevant tower defense game to compare with.

You defend yourself on many stages (levels, maps) against waves of bug-like monsters coming through predefined (but not limited) paths to your wizard core. Your defense consists of towers along the path, that you can equip with different types of gems. These gems define what kind of attack shot will tower use (for example slowing, poison, chain, mana steal), and gem types can be combined together. You buy towers and gems for mana that is slowly replenishing by itself, but mostly you gain it from killing monsters. Funny twist is that your wizard core can "banish" monsters reaching it in exchange for some of your mana burning up, if you have enough of it (and there are ways to decrease banishment cost). You usually lose a stage when your core is reached by a monster and you have no mana left for banishment at the same time. And this is just core mechanics.
But did you know, that on stages you can also: use gems as one shot bombs alone or to activate powerful shrines, build power amplifiers for gem towers, use several special skills and spells to curse monsters or enhance gem tower damage, collect special rewards from destructible buildings, boost your mana pool from harvesting mana shards, kill mysterious apparitions for more rewards?
And if it is not too much for you yet, there is campaign map, where you progress through stages and explore new areas, there are exp and levels that contribute to your skill points, and there are talismans you can equip for various bonuses ingame.
And surprisingly it is not complicated game to play. If you wish to play brutally simply you can. And if you feel like you are up for challenge, you can try to use all of your options at the same time.

To sum it up:
+ Solid but original and complex tower defense
+ Control over many aspects of game difficulty, before starting and during battle, so you can push your limits
+ Nine gem types to combine, several meaningful skills and spells, talisman system bonuses, over 400 achievements
+ Background storyline about wizards, forgotten evil and lost rituals
+ "Dark-themed" visual style and storyline are nice contrast to some "lightly" taken TD games
+- There are many, many stages to beat
+- You can reach ridiculous wizard levels if you are dedicated enough
- Lets face it, it gets repetitive after some time
- No gamma correction means less visible details, unless you brighten your display settings
- There are some disbalancing, yet not game breaking mechanics, especially on higher levels

Final conclusion:
Strongly recommend this game!
