Game will not launch due to 0xc0000142 error.
I tried everything under the sun on google on how to fix this. Still does not want to launch.
It's crazy that I paid $50 for this crap that ran perfectly fine 6 months ago and now it just wouldn't even start.

Did they laid off their dev team? I think so because it's all downhill from here.

After getting bombarded by everyone and everywhere on YouTube about how "ZOMG THIS WILL CHANGE GAMING! ZOMG THIS GAME IS BEST GAME I EVER PLAYED! ZOMG THIS IS STARSHIP TROOPER VIDEO GAME FORM!"

Played it under 2 hours to qualified for refund, 4 missions in, it is exactly as I already expected from watching the streamers shilling the living heck out of this game. It is absolutely repetitive.
Now let me preface this by saying, yes it is not a "bad" game. In the sense that, graphic le good, gameplay works, sounds good, music zomg starship pooper like...but it is not fun at all.
Maybe I'm old, but I do not find mindlessly shooting bugs. Strafing around in a circle to lure the bugs while your friend takes out the nest with a grenade. Fun. Oh you would think that the map on each mission would be big, but no you will actually hit the "edge" of the map and the game will do a literally Call of Duty "Return to the combat zone or die" popup. That is super lazy, that is something that used to get memed but now some how no ones care that it's present on this game.

Let me just sum it up because it would take an essay to explain why this game is not fun while everyone screaming that it is. Do not expect a Starship Trooper experience with this game...THAT IS if your whole idea of Starship Trooper is just "shooting bugs and the quirky propagandas"...because that is about that is related to Starship Trooper in this game (the music, posters, voice lines, intro video). This, however, is a power ranger game.
Send 4 dudes in with rifles while a giant ship in low orbit can just orbital bombardment everything on the planet. No army, no vehicles, no mechs...but hey I GOT A CAPE!
If you already got brainwashed by YouTubers and the hype then there is no need to argue with me. You are already high on the hyped train. But there is nothing of value in this game beside blowing stuffs up. Which many other shooters already done better and have more impact on gameplay.

Everything everyone saying about the lootboxes, and insane time it take to unlock a character is true.

I mean instead of FREE TO PLAY, they should have just charge $40 (which is the amount you need to spend to unlock all the Premium Characters.

The gameplay is so SOLID, I don't even main a Mobile Suit because each one has its own play style and they are all good to play. You can watch some YouTuber covering this game saying the same thing that every MS is good. The high damage dealing aka assassin class has a risk reward factor, when you play it well, it really pays off. When you don't and just bump rush to get 1 off kills, your whole team get punish for it.

The ability to dash, glide, hover on every Mobile Suit makes it feel like a solid Mecha game (think Exteel back in the days).

I just really hate how it is region lock, and I'm not sure what Bandai is planning for this game because it feels like it is on life support and I would hate to see it die.
Really it just need marketing, if more people get the words out it will become popular and more supports will come for the game.
Overwatch and Overwatch 2 has been screwed by Blizzard so this game is like Legendary in term of gameplay comparing to those other games.

Yeah...I bought this from a pack with the 2 Vegas games and this one is a miss.

I know the game is dated but my god the controls are...not fun...it feels very terrible.
Very interesting ADS for iron sights though, I feel like a lot of modern game can use this technique to make iron sighting not completely horrible against red dots.

But anyways, tbh, I booted this up for like 30 minutes and just from the tutorial mission...I don't like how the controls. It is ALL OVER THE PLACE. Yes you can remap the control but even that is a mess as it doesn't delete the last 'key' and you end up having 2 'keys' to do 1 action.
Walking and sprinting is very jerky and doesn't feel natural at all. The enemy AI are super dumb, unless when they decided to actually hit their shot.

This is like someone trying to make a tactical shooting game out of CS 1.6 bots.

So some background first, I played the original Half-Life game back in 1999 absolutely blew my mind as a kid with how amazing technology has come. Played Half Life 2 and various of mods of this valve source engine. I've heard of Black Mesa as a mod back 2015 but I never had the time to download and play it when it was just an ambitious project.

Fast forward to today, 30 years old boomer now, finally got to play the retail version of Half Life Remastered pretty much...and I have to say I am really impress. Given that this is the original team that put all this retail version together bravo. This is AAA quality game.

Quick summary review: (played on Black Mesa difficulty). The beginning part of the campaign...is so boring lol. Yeah totally contradicting what I said earlier but it does get very good very quickly after you get through the first 2 chapters. I'm not sure if it's because I played the original Half Life game so many times through that the first few mission felt more like a chore than a discovery or fun gameplay. But I know the devs have to keep the beginning authentic like the original...maybe gaming has gotten a lot more fast pace now in 2022.

After the first 2 chapters, gun play start to pick up FAST with the HECU soldiers storming in a draining your health bar if you get distracted and slow at taking cover. With further down latter chapters, you'll encounter more enemies and every "fight room" become more of a challenge retain your health and energy shield for the next fight rather than just to survive. Classic shooter mechanic. I'm sure lots of DOOM players will appreciate this game. The AI isn't just a cardboard for you to shoot at like in other AAA games (yuck), they actually take cover, push forward as a team when you're hiding like a coward, and retreat when you go full auto. There's no 1 gun that do all in this game, you're going to have to know your arsenals well.

Story line wise definitely got improved, there are newer dialogues and scripted events that help tell the story than the original game. LOL I honestly don't know what the heck was happening back in the original game at all...as a kid it was just "OH CRAP! Sh*T just blew up! Oh CRAP MONSTERS! Wait what soldiers not here to rescue me? Okay don't trust the government ever got it!". And yes atmosphere wise, they did their best with the source engine...correct me if I'm wrong but this is probably the best looking game on this old dusty Source Engine.

In closing, I'm glad I bought this. I was very close to give up gaming all together since all the newer AAA games these recent year are just woke SJW trash or some kind of rehash with no passion or soul in the project. This gives me hope in the community. Shout out to all you 30 years old gamers out there...don't give up, we can turn this industry around with our skills and our hands. It's time we take over the previous work guys, don't rely on corporation to make good games for us anymore.

This is the most fun and engaging game I have ever play in a while.

It has been like 2 years since I have played a game that makes me looking forward to booting it up everyday after work or itching to drop everything else on a Sunday to binge play it.

Just going to do a pointers review to be quick and sum up the key selling points that got me hooked so far:
1. - Replayability is amazing in this game.
- Maps/Caves are all procedurally generated and done right. Every caves feel very unique, and always surprise you when you get into a new one. Unlike other procedurally generated world games, this game has cave generator has been done SO WELL I can't hardly believe that it is procedurally generated. If anything, I'm starting to think that every iterations have to have been hand crafted some how.
- Lots of crafting content, and upgrades to make customize your play style.
- It just a joy a explore a cave and see what it got to offer everytime.
2. - Graphics is very polygons lol but that is the style of the whole game but the lighting effects are so good that the whole thing becomes art and actually more pleasant to look at than realistic graphics.
3. - Gun play/ Gameplay is simplistic BUT have a huge variety of things that you can do to influence the game that it makes hard to master.
- The risk and rewards are there. Things can go from 0 to a 100 very quickly depending on how much you underestimate the danger of the cave. It very strange to me how a co-op game about Dwarves and shooting alien bugs can have racked up such intensity and makes me feel so rush to try and survive.
- Shooting mechanic is very simple, but the upgrades changes how your guns function making your weapons feel very personal and fitted for your play styles.

Overall, this is a 10/10 game in my book. The developers are still pushing out more contents and I am more than happy with my purchase. I want the developers to take this to the next level. I've heard about this game back in 2016 E3 but never touched it...and I'm so glad I bought it now.

Let's get a few concerns out of the way first:
Is this game Pay 2 Win? Pay 2 Play?
- In the first few hours of playing this game, I definitely think about that constantly. PVE missions required you to get keys to play, which you can buy instantly with real $money$. Modding your weapons required you to unlock the slot and have the accessory, which you can buy and unlock instantly with real $money$.
LOL so yes at first, it seems like a VERY "PREDATORIAL" premium practice for a first person shooter game and I was very put off by this. But when I play and play some more. I realize that those "short cut" premiums aren't necessary going to make you better at the game, because even if your weapon are in it's default stock form you can still play very effectively once you learn the recoil pattern and how your weapon behave. In fact, I would recommend learning your weapon first before customizing it in any ways. That's one of the beautiful thing about this game is the weapon "feels" which I will explain later.
As for the mission keys, you will earn them in your first 2 wins of the day in matches. And you get free ones after 7 days of logging in.

Good things about this game:
1. Sounds
- Most REALISTIC and ADVANCED weapon sound system to date. I really like how weapons sound according to the caliber that it is firing (a .30 caliber will be punchy, a .223 caliber will be sharp) and on top of that according to the barrel length of the weapon (the devs definitely did good research on this). Your surrounding will also affect how the weapon will sounds. If you are in an open field, there will be lots of echo and the sound will travel far. If you are shooting in door, there will be very little echo and it will sounds more bassy...very realistic.
2. Gameplay
- Armor, Gears, Gadget...I love this system. Every piece of armor from different faction will serve a different purpose. You can mix-match it to fit your play style. Don't listen to people saying this game is just a "post-apocolypse call of duty", it's not. Your weapons and armors all have weight ratio. With this weight system alone you can set up your character to be a "speed demon", a "tank", or a "well rounded" shooter...and I haven't got into the quick aiming system, health regen, anomolies protection; all of this has to do with the stats of your gear.
- Speaking of anomolies, you can pick them up in this game and use it to your advantage. But you have to setup your gear to have more anomolies protection other wise you can forget it. So for someone who only focusing on armor and explosive resistance gears they will be very weak against anomolies.
- Weapon handling feels really good. Other modern shooters toned down the recoil a lot so the "baby player" can feel good about themselves, but no NOT THIS GAME, certain gun with high damage will KICK YOUR @55 if you start firing it full-auto without care.

Bad things about this game (and message to the developers):
Slow development
- Please, please devs get more developers, get more help to build this game faster. Focus on the freeplay mode that you have promised. Add more flavors to the PVE, I am talking mutants, monsters, aliens...whatever you can think of. Let's have a mode where you can hunt mutants for loots and questions. As you can already see, this game popularity is suffering due to the lack of constant updates.
- Get in gear, and develop this game. I am telling you this game WILL BE the next successor to Stalker if you focus your time on making it great. You already have the atmosphere and gameplay mechanic down. All you have to do now is create more contents for it.

Let's get a few things out of the way.
As I'm writing this review, this game is currently on Early Access (I think it's in an Alpha-Beta state right now).

And yes, it is very POORLY optimized. I say for a big name company it is pretty disappointing that they didn't iron out all the launch errors and match making errors.
Yes there is poor graphic optimization so your game will run pretty bad on High Setting. Low settings run smoothly and still looks really great...looks better than Ghost Recon graphics as a reference point.

Now beside all the technical flaws (which can be fix hopefully shortly after launch). IT IS A GOOD AF GAME!

Hands down! atmosphere, immersiveness, intense realistic combat.
I don't know how to explain it. I shoot firearms in real life and for some reason this game just get firearms right. They feel hefty, the recoil is just right for the gun caliber. There's a good amount of smoke coming out of these old western weapon.
It's weird. Out of all the shooter games I played, I don't really care what weapon my character's holding but in this game I really do feel it. I feel it's power and worth and how important it is for my survival.

it's getting to be a long review, but everything the devs have been saying about how they make the environment feels alive...yeah they meant it. I can't shake the feeling of uneasiness every steps I took.

In conclusion, for $30 I say this game have made it's $15 worth. I buy this game because I love the creativity of the developers. They really NAILED the gameplay and looks of this game. It's like your first time playing STALKER. It's like your first time playing Bioshock. It's unlike ANYTHING you've played before.
So I say for $30 do support the developers man. You can't let their creativity dies.

You guys really should have stick to the Zombie Panic Source format. But no you had to make it co-op, you had to make it only 8 players per server, you had to make it "realistic".

What were you thinking in the developing process? That you guys actually have the experiences to make a "realistic" zombie game? no you don't! So why try for this half-ass attempt at making a half-ass "No more room in hell" experience.

Zombie Panic was great because:
1. 32 players a server = Lot's of social experience. Team base game. More dynamic social encounter

2. I have features that other zombie games doesn't. Such as "pushing furnitures to make barricade". People get creative with this, and it's greatly differentiate an experienced players to non-experienced.

3. Huge escape map. Contagion maps are linear and predictable. You guys might did a better job at "decorating" them, but too bad when it's come to interactiveness it as stale as a wallpaper. Nothing is movable in Contagion, everything is a stiff as a rock, even chairs.

And let's talk about the Zombie AI, it's a good idea for a new features....but it shouldn't be the reason why you replace 32 player base with it. I get it, I have more zombies to shoot at now, but in no way it can replace encounter I get with a human zombie player. And the AI, they aren't smart, they just walk toward you until you put a bullet in their head...there's no challenge to it, just a mean for you to waste ammo. At least in NMRH, ammo is limited and melee is challenging.

In conclusion, if you still have the budget...revamp the game...make it Zombie Panic Source 2. Otherwise, this is a dead game and it won't be an undead one.

This game is beautiful. The definition of Game Design Art, if that even exist. If you were amazed by how Bioshock environments looks then you will get the same feeling here. You'll spend a minute or two in this game pondering about how beautiful the scenery look. Most of my screenshots are now my wallpaper...just putting this in perspective.

As far as gameplay concern, it is very casual and simple, but the execution is not bad at all. The combat is fun and there's quite a varible of enemies. You can attack your enemies in multiple ways, and create your own style with the dash and dodge mechanics. There's no regenerative health, so that's a plus. There's lot of platform puzzle include jumping and timing, the good thing is the control is very responsive and smooth.

The story will grab your interest as you progress in the game. There's lot of symbolism aspects that explain part of Alice to us and make the connection. And Alice is a very interesting character. And...please...do not try to think that this connect with the Disney Alice in Wonderland story.

Overall, I would buy Madness Returns 2 if the same designer make it, because this game is beautiful.
