Just play a source port.

Not having to pay extra for the mission packs if you already owned the base is nice though.

I REALLY wanted to like Gradius/Nemesis, but the adaptive difficulty is a bit too much. I'll stick to the NES version.

It lags more than the old DOOM Unity ports, even when using Software rendering (which is basically lowest settings). I ran Unity on Intel integrated graphics with zero issues before. Seems to be a fault of the new KEX engine, which is unfortunate because DOOM is low-resource and should run on anything.

I still have DOOM II, for now...

FYI - you can still play Unity using Steam Betas.

Oh boy, I'm glad this game finally received some more mainstream attention (like Cave Story did once it started hitting consoles).

Yume Nikki may be a game created in RPG Maker, but don't be fooled, it is no RPG, in fact, it is very barebones compared to most games in general. Not that this is a bad thing, but for those who may be used to having set objectives and story-driven gameplay, I guarantee you'll dismiss Yume Nikki right off the bat as some sort of walking simulator. Truth be told, there is a lot of walking (or cycling as you'll quickly find out) to be done, because the maps in this game are incredibly large. You're bound to get lost pretty quickly!

Yume Nikki is a game about exploring the dreams of a young girl, and it's incredibly bizarre. A lot of the areas and NPC's remind me of Earthbound/Mother, to tell you the truth. Scattered throughout the worlds are various "effects" which can grant practical or purely visual powers, such as a knife (which can kill NPC's, albeit temporarily) or the ability to turn your hair blond. Finding out the practical uses of effects adds a small level of depth to the game, although a majority of effects are there just for show.

While effects are certainly interesting, the main theme of the game is simply going places and seeing the sights. You can use a guide, sure, but that ruins the excitement when you finally do encounter something new. I haven't played the game in years, and relearning how all the worlds connected and where the effects were made me feel like I was playing for the first time again.

There is a major downside though. The Steam version of Yume Nikki is somewhat buggy at the moment, but if the audio and performance issues are ironed out, and some modern features are added (such as controller support, upscaling, and the overlay), I feel this could be the version to own. The latest non-Steam version of Yume Nikki (0.10) is available for free on other websites to download and plays perfectly well (it can also be added to Steam).
