Highly recommend playing this game, even if you do not have a lot of experience with live TF2.

I've been playing TF2 on and off since 2009. This fan-made mod does a good job at capturing the olden days of Team Fortress 2, especially with the graphics. It reminds me what TF2 could have been if Valve maintained the game at an appropriate level.

Definitely worth a try, especially since its completely free.

Marvel rivals is a fun, team-based hero shooter with a strong cast of comic characters. The devs take community feedback well (in most aspects) and try to keep the game feeling fresh. I've been playing TF2 since 2009 and played overwatch 1 on release up until OW2 was announced. I still play TF2 occasionally, but I do not touch OW2 at all, ever. Marvel rivals is good at scratching the itch of wanting to play a modern hero-based shooter and filled the void that OW1 left.

Pros:
- You get to play as marvel characters! (All characters are free & available right away)
- Cast of characters have very unique play styles and there is something for everyone
- The dev team prioritizes the casual, fun aspect of the game over the competitive, serious tone games like OW took
- While it is crazy monetized, there are still well done cosmetics you can get through just playing the game

Cons:
- Toxic community, but that comes with any live service hero shooter (i.e. OW, TF2, etc)
- Rough matchmaking; games recently have felt more balanced, but my general experience is you either roll the enemy team or get rolled yourself, but this also happens in other similar games such as OW & TF2
- Performance issues caused by memory leaks. The game is growing so quickly that the optimization has always been behind.
- You MUST play this game with it installed on an SSD. If it is on an HDD it will take forever to load into the match, to the point you load in half way through the match.


Keep in mind that this is a *TEAM* game, so there will be matches where you do well, but cannot win because of team composition, a tilted player, or just poor coordination. This is guaranteed to happen. Everyone has bad games sometimes, wants to play a specific hero, or just run off on their own for a bit. It's important to focus on your own gameplay and play what YOU FIND FUN. At the end of the day, its just a game.

In it's current state (7/30/25), I cannot recommended for people who have played KF1 & KF2.

Pros:
- The game runs SOOO much better than KF2, it has a great feel to it
- The movement changes I am a huge fan of, the dashes & slides really mix up combat and keep things fast paced

Cons:
- A HUB INSTEAD OF A MENU!! Please just let us navigate a series of menues, I do NOT want to have to run around an area just to get to a menu. I don't care if I can access all tabs from one terminal, I do not want it at all.
- Limited number of weapons
- Healing syringe is no longer on a cooldown, you have to resupply to get more
- LAME COSMETICS; I understand monetizing the game so quickly because they need the cash to stay afloat as a studio, but at least make the battle pass have cool stuff... none of the items in the BP are worth any amount of real money

I believe the devs need more time to cook and felt pressured to release the game before it was ready because of deadlines, fiscal needs, and a promise to the community. I hope that they will take feedback and improve the game. The core mechanics are fun, but they changed things from KF2 that didn't need to be changed. Devs, you just needed to make a more modern KF2 that runs better, you don't need to innovate the industry.

This game is A MUST PLAY. It is a classic horde shooter that has stood the test of time. It is one of the best games on Steam, period. It has fantastic modding capability through the Steam workshop and can really change how the game plays.

This game is on the list of necessary games to play in your lifetime. It had a lot of love and intention built into it that a lot of modern games have lost.

A very fun souls like with guns. I've played through the entire campaign twice with friends and enjoyed the different weapon dynamics. A good game to run around and shoot stuff while you chat with your friends.

A fun game to play with friends. The rounds can be quick and can easily be put down. I would not recommend playing this game if you intend to play with random players through matchmaking. It's best played with people you know and can have a laugh with.

Having a lot of fun playing this game with friends. The dev team is very active online and take community feedback really well. They've even published player surveys to figure out what the playerbase would like in the game.

The game is still new-ish, and the team has plans to keep updating it. Yes, there can be a bit of a stale gameplay loop with the same maps and enemies, but the different characters offer good variety. I would love to see new content focused around maps, enemies, and points of interest instead of characters for a bit.
