**ACTUAL REVIEW**
More historical than Civ, if you're looking to learn a bit of history without reading pre or post game exposition, this is much better for that. The game acutally gives you historical situations to play from. But (Compared to Civ 5) it is more complicated; especially with DLC.
The DLC is a must for playing the game to its full potential. However, it is quite expensive, so I'd wait for a sale to buy them. (If you decide to.) If you play with a friend who has the DLC though, you won't need it when you play with them, as the DLC is shared from the host.
Overall, if you have the patience to learn the base game, (which does take a while) the DLC is worth buying on sale. The base game does take ALOT of patience though, so getting a friend to help walk through the game, or just playing around with the features using cheats can be helpful to learn.
