When I was home after my first tour, it was worse. I'd wake up and there'd be nothing. I hardly said a word to my wife until I said yes to a divorce. When I was here, I wanted to be there. When I was there... all I could think of was getting back into the jungle.

A standout entry in the 'deliver stuff and don't die/break your car while doing it' genre, and far more than the sum of its parts.

The Slaverian Trucker fits a neat middleground between the heavily in-depth car customization and mechanics of My Summer Car and the simpler but larger-scale The Long Drive. The controls are clunky and take time to get used to, but once you find some binds you're comfortable with, the game is very fun to drive in even on keyboard and mouse. The world of a late 80's post-apocalypse Eastern Europe lends itself to some grungy, ramshackle aesthetics that fit well with the rough and worn Soviet-era trucks and cars you'll be driving, and there are a number of things to do even without hauling heavy cargo. Having a smoke under a tree and getting oriented while scouting out new routes in the wastes, completing quests from NPC's for extra cash, testing your car's horsepower on the dynograph in Komsodrinsk, doing rally time trials on mountain roads, betting on the weekend dog races in Saversk, or sneaking around police patrols while transporting high-value drugs or illegal arms, there is enough variety to provide a good break from the usual long-haul gameplay.

Slaveria's mountainous geography and winding roads will be your most common challenges, especially while carrying shifting cargo like ores or wood planks that punish you for sudden, jerky moves or poor choice of gearing. Overland routes across the desert can often be more straightforward, but become much more challenging with heavier or unstable loads that don't like taking the many bumps and hills at speed compared to the flatter, consistent roadways. The vehicles themselves are modeled deeply enough, without the individual nuts-and-bolts construction of My Summer Car but extensive in interactivity, ease of use, and customization potential for your particular needs.

Scavenging and exploring provides lucrative opportunities to get expensive items and components for free, and parts between different trucks can be kitbashed together either out of personal preference or outright desperation. In addition, truck beds and saddles for trailers can be adjusted and replaced for better performance and compatibility with various cargo, keeping even your starter truck relevant while progressing further. With the constant need to watch out for your engine's oil, radiator coolant, fuel, and weight distribution, as well as the player's needs for water and food, The Slaverian Trucker is a game that rewards preparation and punishes carelessness even as you acquire new vehicles and get used to the landscape of the game world.

It is an imperfect, often janky game, but forgivable due to the dev team consisting of a single person and being sold at a low, fair price. There are annoyances, such as the police operating on a proximity system at time of writing where illegal cargo is automatically seized and crushing fines dished out within 50 meters of a patrol car or checkpoint, unintuitive controls for personal inventory and weapon equipping, odd character models and reused assets from storefronts making the bulk of the visuals, as well as long load times especially while loading previous save states. Nevertheless, the fundamental driving and resource management gameplay is solid enough to be worth sinking time into despite rough appearances.

The Slaverian Trucker is not an experience everyone will find stimulating, but for those who like automotive sims and especially fans of series like Euro Truck/ATS or My Summer Car, it is an addictive alternative that cannot easily be replicated elsewhere. Slaveria is a rough country, with a broad sandbox asking to be explored further. It deserve proper attention, especially as the game inches towards a full release out of Early Access.

A full recommendation, and a benchmark for what can be done by a single person with some free time and a focused vision.

An extremely promising immersive sim that is worth every cent, sale or not. Multiple ways to complete objectives, a consistent unique artstyle, and a great amount of replay value makes this a cut above many contemporaries in the retraux shooter space.

This game is in early access, not a release state. There's a lot of bugs, and things for this game and dev team to iron out. Already there's been quick patches and consistent dialogue from the team to the players. If this game achieves even half of it's potential there may be a real gem hidden in the rough. Even now it's a horrific, beautiful artpiece that I hope to see grow

For a brief moment, we were reminded of what games used to be and what they could have been. The reality of corporate greed couldn't allow that. If PSN is required, I will not be continuing to play this game, as much as I have come to love it.

EDIT: We've won.

Can't recommend this game on PC until the performance issues are fixed, it's clear that the developers didn't test this game on a mix of hardware. Frames are more than fine on ultra settings, about 80-100, but there's a constant microstutter effect that comes in strong about 2-3 matches in to a play session, essentially making the game a very pretty powerpoint presentation. Tried about every fix going around online, rolled back NVIDIA drivers, all that. No luck. Game seems fine so far but it's unacceptable for it to be in such a broken state for so many people when asking for 70 dollars up front.

Go into this game expecting a Valkyria Chronicles kind of vibe, not a WWII vibe, and you'll probably be happy. It's fun and has a good (though surprisingly limited) set of highly detailed weapons to fiddle around with. If you have EA Play, give it a try. If I could give a review a neutral review, I would.

Hideo Kojima is probably the biggest hit-or-miss developer I can think of still working today, except maybe Suda 51. Kojima does what he wants with a video game he makes, player enjoyment or expectation be damned, which can often lead to many people being turned off by his games, or at least certain sections of them (the B&B unit from MGSIV has never sat entirely right with me). Death Stranding is no different, considering that the game takes a loooooooong time to get started, enough that you'll be past the refund point before you even start getting out into the world and making deliveries. There's also way too much exposition in the early stages, and you don't even get anything to fight the game's main enemies with until about 6 hours in. Not only that, the main gameplay can be compared to that of a series of fetch quests.

So, why do I recommend this game?

Well, while Death Stranding is a game that not a lot of people will like, and it requires one to have a certain mindset to go in, the experience can be very, very engaging. Being someone who likes games like Elite Dangerous and STALKER, the idea of being a post-apocalyptic mailman is something that I actually rather like, and I feel a lot of others would too. There's something engaging about carting supplies 3 kilometers on foot through rough terrain, where you can put on a podcast and drink in the beautifully destroyed scenery of post-Stranding America while managing your load, navigating mountains, and eventually, enter into tense situations that require you to think and plan ahead instead of brute-forcing your way through, simply because of the limited tools at your disposal. Even when you have said tools and weapons, hauling ass is often the best option.

All in all, Death Stranding is a game that I recommend, but I would totally understand if you don't like it. Aside from normal Kojima weirdness and jank (Die-Hardman actually being a name someone un-ironically thought of and implemented into a AAA game is hilarious to me), it has a gameplay loop that won't be engaging to some. I'd say wait for a sale, even though I bought the game full price and would probably do so again, despite its flaws. If you try this game, just be aware of what you're getting into. Though, even if the game doesn't sound like your cup of tea, maybe opening your mind and trying it would do some good.

While I haven't played much of Insurgency: Sandstorm at the time of writing, I can already tell that it's a marked improvement over INS2 in almost every aspect. However, it is badly, and I mean badly in need of optimization. Frame drops, stutters, poor picture quality, the works. I can forgive it somewhat, since the developers have shown good business practices in the past, and I don't believe this is the result of them pushing the game out the door. However, it is still poor form to release a finished product in this state.

I will still reccomend it for fans of NWI's work and tactical shooters in general, since it seems to be very promising and already offers more than INS2, but I hope the developers can fix the optimization problems so that the game runs more smoothly.

A clunky but well-aged classic that deserves some fresh life, and an absolute steal on sale.

Red Orchestra 2 and Rising Storm provide some of the best combat in the genre and strikes a perfect balance between realism and accessibility. In addition, it is on par with World at War in its depictions of the Eastern Front and the Pacific Theatre, and highly recommended to play with native voices for the full immersive experience. Even in 2026, combat with bots on empty servers is fun, but there are still dedicated communities who play this game regularly.

Hop in and don't get discouraged. If you like historical shooters, you will fall in love as I did back in 2012.
