It might be good in German, but this game just isn't ready to market to English speakers. So many pieces of random text are entirely in German, and the voice acting doesn't match what's written on screen. A lot of the English is broken and would benefit from a better skilled translator. I shouldn't have to have Google Translate open to understand what's going on.

The game feels clunky and slow - loading times similar to the Sims with 20+ mods installed.

It's a shame, I can tell the game was made with a lot of love, but it isn't sell-able in this state.

Pentiment is such an excellent game with gorgeous, thoroughly researched art and historical details. I can hardly put into words how much I love this game.

The characters are written excellently and thoughtfully. Almost every choice matters, and you can play several times over and still have plenty of avenues left to explore.

I thoroughly recommend it for anyone with an interest in medieval history, particularly that which pertains to religion, art, literacy and publishing.

However, if you're looking for a detective/murder mystery game that will test your wits as I was when I first bought it, be warned - you will never find out for certain if your deductions are correct.

I desperately wanted to like Darkest Dungeon 2, but I just can't recommend it, either as a sequel nor as a standalone.

There is hardly anything in the way of a tutorial (which I consider an accessibility requirement), and I had to Google practically every aspect of the game just to understand what was going on. Enemies make moves that are not listed in their moveset, unique tokens go unexplained, as do location nodes. It is easy to miss the Bounty Hunter entirely if you do not know to look out for his poster in the tavern.

The devs made a lot of choices for the sequel that I struggle to understand. Several beloved characters from the first game are completely absent. It took me until the third chapter (of five) that the narrator, who shares the same VA as the first game's Ancestor and speaks in the exact same way, was in fact a different character entirely. Heart attacks don't exist anymore; Afflictions are reduced either to a Meltdown or becoming Resolute, and are resolved immediately, resetting the hero's stress to 0 with practically no long-term consequences.

While I greatly enjoy the concept of the relationship mechanics, they are largely temporary and, I feel, poorly executed. Character deaths don't really mean anything anymore since you start afresh nearly every time regardless – which cheapens any relationships they can have with each other. And if they do form a negative relationship, the game can force you to equip a skill you didn't want to use in the first place, which makes no sense to me beyond being an unnecessarily harsh mechanic and almost acts as an incentive not to unlock more skills (increasing the chance it'll pick one you didn't already have equipped).

The sequel's movement from 2D to 3D models did not do it any favours in my opinion; though the 3D models are beautiful aesthetically, Lovecraftian-style horror benefits from the fear of the unknown, and moving 3D models are actively detrimental to this. Nothing horrifies me like it did in the first game.

Every single part of this game feels either over-complex or oversimplified – it never gets the balance right.

I just don't care about Darkest Dungeon 2 – it feels like it lacks guidance, having been thrown together haphazardly to justify a more roguelike sequel (while forgetting what makes a roguelike enjoyable). It took away what made the first game great and forgot to add anything in its place. I couldn't put the first game down, but I'm not even going to try to finish this one.

(And this is such a small complaint it hardly feels worth mentioning, but why doesn't the Dinner Cart spawn with a Fodder token? It's literally a cart full of dinner.)

Fantastic mesh of genres into a truly unique game. I had so much fun playing, but I do wish there were difficulty settings - I found it a touch too easy at times.

I was, however, really sincerely disappointed by the ending. It felt very sudden to me - the way things were going, I expected to have a turn with each of the Scrybes. I did not feel sad to see them go because I barely got any actual time with them (aside from Leshy, who the game also tries to make you feel sad for, which also doesn't work as he's spent half the time murdering you). Grimora's and Magnificus' 3D boards both looked like a lot of fun to play, and you get less than two minutes with them in the whole game. It entices you with interesting mechanics and more gameplay and then takes that away from you. You can replay the Inscryption you see in act I through Kaycee's mod, which is great, but I desperately wish that included access to the other Scrybes' boards. It just feels like the game was cut short halfway through, which I suppose is technically the point, but I'm still left disappointed because of it.

I was ready to tout Inscryption as one of the best games of all time before the ending happened, and now I'm left simply feeling that it's a good experience. All in all Inscryption is absolutely worth picking up for a bizarre whirlwind of a game that you'll love playing, but if you get soured on a game by a disappointing ending, it might be a bit risky.

What an incredible game! Do not let the graphics put you off - they take only moments to get used to, are incredibly atmospheric and, in their simplicity, truly enhance the game. The music is excellent. The fates of the crew are creative, cleverly linked and (often) incredibly tragic. And solving things makes you feel very smart, too.

I only wish that there was an option to switch to windowed/borderless - switching monitors to take notes minimised the game, which wasn't ideal as the experience practically requires note-taking.

Overall, I cannot recommend this game enough. I wish there were more like it.

Loved the graphics, the music design was incredible. Credit where it's due. I only wish there had been more of the casino music evident in the other levels of the game, as this is also the music that plays on the title screen, and the namesake for its title, and it just feels like it should also tie everything together musically. Occasionally moving from one level to the next caused a jarring change of sound.

Most of the game was very fun, but the ending ruined it for me. I loved the premise - work out how to stop the guests being murdered in an endless time-loop - and I enjoyed its execution too, until the last 20%-ish of the game just strayed from this entirely. There is absolutely no stealth aspect in this last portion, for example.

The game's attempt at justifying its own mechanics in the plot ended up producing a Hello Neighbor-esque descent into senseless fantasy and detachment from what made the game fun in the first place. It's clear from the beginning that there's a supernatural aspect, which is great, but I would have preferred if there was never an attempt to explain it.

There are also quite a few spoilers in the store's 'about this game' description, which is never ideal in a mystery game.

The game feels incomplete to me. Identifying plants was fun, but there are several exciting features/mechanics that are either underused or barely thought of after their introduction. There are a few opportunities to give customers a plant other than what they asked for, for example - but only a few.

It's relaxing enough, but the plot felt lacking. It ends after only 2 weeks and the mystery just isn't there for me.

Just not quite worth the price - could be worth it in a sale.

A fun game. Not worth £11.
