If Portal and Portal 2 are A grade movies, then Quantum is a solid B-.

Quantum offers a spin on first-person puzzles being that it is a game based on different dimensions, and how you use them to complete the objective. The dimensions come from a glove you wear in the game, and are activated on-cue through keyboard bindings. The four dimensions are:

1. "Fluffy" - Makes it so you can lift and throw what would normally be too heavy to handle items.
2. "Heavy" - Makes items that would be considered "light" to instead have their mass increased (weigh more in non-scientific terms)
3. "Slow" - Basically slow-mo.
4. "Reverse Gravity" - As it says, items float to the ceiling when activated.

The main story revolves around you, portrayed as a young nephew, trying to find his Uncle who is in an unknown location and needs help rescuing. How is it in comparison to a game like Portal?

Quantum is missing the "charm" that Portal (specifically 2) has. The characters are not as unique or likeable. For example, isntead of Wheatley and GLaDOs, you get a furry animal named Ike and your "crazy scientist" uncle. There are no companion cubes, instead they are replaced with cartoon-like safes. The setting is bland; a mansion. And while you go through the puzzles, your uncle keeps chiming in with one-liners you would hear from a high school math teacher.

Don't get me wrong. It may sound like I hate Quantum-quite the opposite. It is a very solid game with good mechanics and physics-based puzzles. However, the magic of the game just is not there. Many of the puzzles rely on timing and reflexes rather than thought and careful design. The story is not a life-or-death scenario, but more of a child-friendly adventure.

This is a game that I would solidly recommend you pick up on sale, particularly in the 50-75% off range. If you enjoyed Portal 1+2, you will enjoy this, just not nearly as much.

First off, this game is beautiful with the settings maxed. Really impressed with the quailty.

The whole game reminds me of older Indiana Jones PC titles (Infernal Machine, Emperor's Tomb). I played these back in 2001 and 2003 respectively.

This was my first Tomb Raider game; I have never played console editions.

Physics and the puzzles are like Half-Life 2, not difficult by any means, but force you to think.

The one weak point I would like to point out are the supporting characters. I kind of felt like Private Ramirez (Ok guys Lara is going to save the day while you sit around and do jack ____!) As others have said, they all kind of followed a stereotypical frameset (the nerd, the big nice fat man, the hipster with the money, the douche scientist).

I wish Lara didn't come across as weak as she did, she really developed as a character in the game, but her dialogue had a hard time reflecting this.

Buy it.

A game that will make you laugh and allow you to mindlessly kill everything (isn't that videogames were originally supposed to be like?) More than worth it if you get it on sale.

Take 1 part Duke Nukem, 1 part Robo Cop, 1 part Terminator, a dash of 80's synth and you have this game.

Not a bad game, just not worth MSRP. Get it on sale. The desructable environments are unlike any other game I have played, and very unique.

Great game. Do not believe the ratings. Runs great with settings maxed out on old tech (5870 Q9550 4GB DDR2 @ 1920x1080)

Meh. A little too cartoony for my tastes. Glad I got it on sale.
