I really like this game. It's a great detective sim that seemingly has infinite replayability. You never will get that far because the game is buggy as hell and seems to have only gotten buggier with the 1.0 release. Missing texts, impossible side jobs, cases with murder ciphers that link to nothing, and sometimes you just won't get another murder case and your save file is done at that point. I encountered all of these with zero mods enabled so it's just the game itself that's broken. I'm not sure if they've abandoned it or not but I really can't recommend it because it's simply not playable at the moment.

I don't know what they did to this game but it ain't good. Started a new save file for waypoint. Went through the tutorial. Get told to make hyperdrive fuel, and I do. I make the fuel and put it in the hyperdrive. Now tutorial says to warp to another system. Can't, lol. Not enough fuel. The tutorial itself doesn't tell you that you need to grind out more fuel. Just this alone has informed me that the game hasn't actually improved or gained depth. It's still just a grindfest of repetitive tasks and meaningless numbers going up.

Call me when this survival game becomes an actual survival game, not just a chore simulator.

Crashes at least once or twice per level. Since the autosaves only happen at level transitions you will lose significant amounts of progress. Considering the game doesn't expect you to save since it has no game overs, this is a pretty big deal breaker as you WILL forget to quicksave and WILL lose 30+ minutes of progress regularly. Re-release was a half-assed cash grab, so don't expect a fix ever.

A decent game made by one of the least competent dev teams in the business. No attempts at balancing. Everything is a one shot after a certain point. A community full of addicts who will never admit it's gotten as bad as it has.

The more you die, the longer things take, the more time you'll look at the FOMO-abusing MTX shop. The devs don't want you to have fun. They want you to die. Over and over. So that you'll buy MTX. If someone says they're having fun with this game they're either playing 80 hours a week, getting extremely lucky with drops, or outright buying exalts for real money.

There's nothing here for casuals. If you can't put in the time then you will not progress. And even if you do, you'll still be dealing with amateur boss design that revolves around one-shotting you for being a pixel too close for an attack.

This game badly needs a reset button, but GGG seem elated to just keep tossing more and more half-finished mechanics into it. Archnemesis going core was a terrible idea and broke multiple pieces of content because they were too inept to playtest.

Play the acts, enjoy the story, but once you hit a wall with content just move on. Don't expect PoE2 to be any different.

Update 8/23/2022: Kalandra League just added alongside hidden nerfs and uncommunicated major changes. GGG has completely lost the plot and treats their players with complete spite. This kind of intentionally adversarial relationship with their players is quite frankly embarrassing and if the backlash that is going on right now doesn't stop them from sabotaging their own game then they deserve to fail.

tl;dr: The devs have made a game they clearly put effort into but either didn't play test it enough or simply don't think the issues it has are issues. There's also still bugs (primarily related to henchmen recruitment).

I've played almost 200 hours of this game and eventually it just becomes completely frustrating. There's still unfixed bugs but that's the least of the issues. The game is very unbalanced and even if you do everything right it will blow up in your face simply because things are programmed poorly.

There's no real gameplay reason Soldiers and Super Agents should attack your social and science minions, but they do anyways and turn your trap halls into meat grinders as an endless supply of helpless minions rush to pick up the corpses of their friends, only to get effortlessly murdered by Agents. This invalidates trap hallways as an effective way to deal with agents, since you end up getting more minions killed than you do just having your casino end in a armory full of guards.

I don't know if there was a stealth nerf to henchmen but I watched Eli fight an investigator for two minutes real-time before he killed it. 5 damage per punch is not enough damage. Not to mention Jubei who went from dealing almost 100 damage to roughly 40 during Flow. Agent armor is currently scaled way too high so all attacks seem to cap out at 5 damage in most case. Henchmen badly need a buff, like, ASAP. This MAY have been a programming oversight during a patch, but give them armor penetration or something.

The back doors to bases will ruin your gameplay. I tried everything from positioning my guard rooms in front of them to attaching the casino to them to hopefully distract agents. After a certain point Investigators (not just soldiers) will exclusively go through your back entrance, skipping the casino as a mechanic entirely. No sir, I don't like it. I really hope the upcoming map lacks a back entrance because this is, above everything else, a bad idea from the developers. I don't think a lot of real play testing went into the game and the back entrance is proof of that.

In terms of suggestions to make the game more fun:
- Make Soldiers ignore Science/Deception minions. Maybe even workers too. Only make workers fight if agents are tagged.
- Buff henchmen. Increase their armor penetration. Let Eli use his gun permanently; it doesn't even deal that much damage anymore (not even six shots can kill a Soldier, much less a Super Agent). Make Janet Bombe's abilities affect a squad, or even every agent on the map to make her worth using. Give the Pyro voice lines. Redesign Carl Caffard to make him worth using as well. Maybe put a gun in his cane, I don't know? Was this stuff playtested or was it just random ideas?
- Remove the back entrances in maps, or give an option to disable agents using them. It is single-handedly the most disruptive thing. It's viable to link them to the casino in Crown Gold, but Montenas Gemelas is destroyed by it.
- Add more maps. At the moment the only good map is Caine Key, with Montenas Gemalas being awful and Crown Gold fine but too small.

I haven't had that much trouble with bugs like others have, but the game itself is built on flawed or outright bad ideas. If this game was moddable these issues could've already been fixed, but who knows it mod support will ever come.

Honestly, I'd say buy it if you liked the original. It's not as charming as that one, nor is the writing as amusing, but there's more effort in EG2 than you might expect. The devs have done a great job with patching it as fast as they did but things have definitely slowed down and there's still huge issues (bugs, balance, fun vs challenge) to be addressed.

I'm sure this is a great game, but for me it's just a mess of disconnections, crashes and bad netcode. 343 need to fix the game before monetizing it to heck.
