If you are considering RE0 but have not played RE1 remake I’d go play that first. This game contains a few spoilers for the superior original (remake or original).

Set before RE1 you play as both Rebecca Chambers and Billy Coen, alternating characters that best suit the situation. The other character follows or idles, and you can switch between them at the click of a button. The environments are decent, especially the opening train level, but the inventory management seriously lets this game down. There are no item boxes so you can either share items with the other character or leave items on the ground. Will you remember to pick them up? Probably not. It’s a right pain. Thankfully the map has you covered for dropped items.

The puzzles are straight forward with the usual door keys to be found to open up the map and advance the story. If you love the RE1 remake, you’ll probably like this game. It’s in the same style but unnecessarily frustrating, which is a shame. However, the game does have a certain charm that you probably won’t see from any future capcom releases so it’s worth playing once.

There is an Item Box mod that I highly recommend making things a little less frustrating. I caved after a few hours and started over with the mod installed.

I had no performance issues on my 4080 at 4K. Unlike the RE1 remake this game does run above 60hz at 120hz and is super smooth.
