For an "early access" game, Necesse blows a lot of fully published games out of the water. It's not just good, it's *startlingly* good. We play together as a family, and so we've played a ton of co-op games. This one ranks as one of the best ever, period.

It has a roughly Rimworld style settlement system - clean, easy, convenient. The battles are tight and smooth, with fun and intuitive combat. Lots of quality of life features baked in - I didn't feel the need for mods, though modding is apparently easy. Lots of cute aspects, like cosmetics, deco, etc, that look good and felt satisfying.

We played through at a fairly quick pace, and it took us almost 40 hours to get to the end of the post-game content. It was a blast the whole time. Personally, I loved the building side of things (I'm a Rimworld fan) - designing the town was great! (It's not as comprehensive as Rimworld, it's just that rough style)

All in all, not only recommended, but a full 10/10 for me. It did exactly what it's supposed to, and it did it well.

This barely gets the thumbs up.

This game is *vastly* worse than Aground. If you haven't played Aground, turn around and go play that one instead. Seriously, go. Compared to Aground, it's so bad that it feels *awful* to play.

But, if you're *not* comparing it to Aground... I mean, it's not bad. It's not great, but not bad. Base building is fun and relaxing. And the gameplay generally is fun. It's not too expensive, all told. The endings suck, the plot is stupid as hell and terribly conveyed. But like... my family and I *did* have fun, so I guess that means I have to thumbs up, right?

There's some fun concepts here, but it plays like a college student's project, not a refined game. It feels incredibly clunky and awkward.

The balance is bizarre - we wandered the beginning area and could barely find any resources, and when we got a pickaxe, we were finding iron more easily than stone for some reason? It didn't feel like any real sense of progression - rather, arbitrary accomplishments, with no sense of purpose to it.

It didn't *feel* good to play, which is really the biggest issue a game can have, in the end.

I bought this game because it looked like a cute and fun way to do something with my family - multiplayer games are a treat! I didn't care about the plot, or graphics, or anything, I just wanted a fun romp with my wife and kid.

Instead, this game hit me over the head with so much passion and care that I was blown away. Not only did I get a fun adventure with my family as I'd hoped, I got a surprisingly sweet story, a game bursting at the seams with the obvious love the creators have for the genre, and a remarkably fun experience. I signed up for grinding and a simplistic story, and it actually made me cry, like what?

There's lots of heart and soul in this game. It is absolutely recommended.

My recommendation comes with a caveat - this game is very much not for everyone. You must crave efficiency. You must think with the future in mind, yet also be content with striving for the next goal set before you. And by "set before you," it's not like the game says, "New Objective: Do this thing next!" No, you see what the thing you want needs, then you build that. Then, inevitably, you need something else.

Many times you'll be pulled in many directions at once - "I need to get the next military research in, the enemies are getting too strong! But maybe first, I need to upgrade my electrical network - we're getting close to the limit. But... I need concrete to start working on nuclear power, maybe I should try getting that supply line going first." This is a specific challenge I faced recently, which led me to detour to the next point.

Acquiring IRL people to serve as Helpful Assistants (slaves) is highly recommended. "Build me a train network that acquires more iron ore!" is an excellent general command, allowing their own creativity, freedom, and intelligence to solve your factory's iron problem. Be good to your Assistants (slaves) by equipping them with vehicles (cars or maybe tanks!), power armor, a device that allows your robot army to serve their needs, and top of the line weapons.

You are a powerful android (there's no other explanation for how you can make electronic circuits by hand) who eats fish, starts with nothing, and builds a factory that destroys the world.

It's honestly awesome.

This game is a lot of fun.

It's hard to understand why, in some ways. After all, it is a game of unending death and destruction of all you hold dear. You will try, and fail, and try again. And fail again. By "fail," I mean, "die a miserable death," of course.

I've got over 60 hours in this game, and I've never survived a single year.

Yet I keep coming back. Why is it so fun to rage against the dying of the light?

It's just plain fun. A few annoying microtransaction things, but they're all cosmetic, so it's forgivable. Good game.

I started playing a version of this game way back in the early days of Flash games on the internet. (I think it was called pandemic back then?) It's got a solid history that it has solidly developed. It's quite a bit of fun and a great one to periodically come back to. Lots of disease types, a much more robust infection mechanic than the ancient days, and a bunch of really fun weird stuff (like vampirism, or the simian flu (from Planet of the Apes)). Good fun!

Startlingly good game.

Well balanced. Fun gameplay. Amusing characters.

It's not especially long, but it draws you in the entire way. The cutesy animal graphics help make the game have a nice, light feel, that lets you face hard times with a heavy heart, but not get crushed by it.

An emotional ride, with plenty of great emotions.

There's ways in which it could be improved, of course, but it still makes a solid entry in my "games I look back fondly on" list.
