Goku was a bad father to Goten specifically. He chose to stay dead and hang out with King Kai for 7 years instead of raising his son. He chose to make Chichi a single mother. The way he only showed back up after Goten was a super saiyan feels like a dad who went out for a pack of smokes and only showed back up after his son was drafted to the NBA. When talking about their second children specifically, Vegita is probably a better dad and definitely a better spouse. Both were given the choice to be their for their child's birth or go get some special training, and Goku chose training while Vegita chose Bulla. With Gohan, he did ok. Not great, but ok. Goku definitely loves his kids, but he is not good at communicating with them.
