Played it in EA, wasn't super into it for some reason. Generally avoided it until that damned Balatro DLC made me reinstall the game just so I can try out the funny clown. I was almost brought in by Castlevania but was doing something else whenever that dropped.

I now grabbed the DLC, paid and unpaid, which I haven't touched because I am busy trying to 100% the base game. I haven't even interacted with the reason I reinstalled the game, which is my own doing.

Fine... I like it.

Thanks Jimbo for giving me another crippling addiction, real cool of you.

This is certainly a game, if you somehow missed the other reviews spoiling any of the experience and enjoy puzzles, stop reading through these and go try it already.

TLDR: I didn't regret playing at all, I just wish the story was a little better given how wordy it is.

I finished it which meant I enjoyed it but the story was rough around the edges for sure.

For the record, I like story-heavy games and this one bombards you with words without a whole lot of worldbuilding outside of dialogue that seems to more expect you to know what's going on rather than showing you. I felt like underneath all the chatter might be something special but then the ending happened. A lot of stuff came out of left field all at once and some of it was all foreshadowed to some extent but it still felt shoehorned in.

The explanation for what's going on behind the scenes and potential consequences of the story never happens but is only hinted at. It'd be fine if this was a part one but as something insinuated to be a complete experience, it kind of irked me. Also, the characters are kind of meh, if there is a sequel or DLC, I hope they work on that.

My gripes out of the way, I had fun with the gameplay. As some others have said, it is kind of trivial but I found myself able to circumvent that by not wearing certain accessories and deliberately underleveling my ability points.

Also, the OST is freaking great.

I played and finished this pretty close to release. I don't know why I never got around to reviewing CrossCode until now. I liked it so much that I have art of it on my walls FFS. It really brought back some of the same vibes I got while playing Alundra in high school (one of my favorite games of all time, and I really wish someone would remaster it or at least port it even though I own a copy).

Pros:

Story isn't amazing by any capacity, but at the same time, it doesn't try to be more than it is, and doesn't overstay its welcome. It's just a well-told story that doesn't try too hard to be a masterpiece.

Puzzles are challenging enough to make you feel accomplished but not so rough that you want to bash your head against the wall.

Combat is fun.

Characters and OST are pretty neat.

Accessibility options. I prefer to experience games as they are intended to be, but I understand some people have limiters or don't play as many games as the rest of us, so it was nice of them to include this.

Cons:

Mechanics can be a little janky sometimes, but overall the positives outweigh the negatives.

The freaking timer puzzles. The devs know what they did, they are even hated in-world.

My friends keep telling me to shut up about them getting around to playing this game.

Coming up with cons for this game is hard beyond the first one.

I never left a bad review because I generally don't like to participate in review bombing (anymore). However, since Sony actually reversed their call... I feel like I doing my part to help undo the bad reviews now that democracy has triumphed.

It's a good game anyway so I have no shame jumping on a bandwagon here.

I can't really add much that other people haven't said so I'll just say this:

Is the game having issues? Yes.

Was the game good when it wasn't having issues? Also yes.

Online worked fine in early access, game will likely work fine once EHG puts out some fires.

Just ignore the folks acting like this is going to be forever, just buy it later if you have to.

If anything, I'd recommend looking up footage of the game and a few guides to see if this is the ARPG for you instead of listening to a bunch of people in a review section.

I'm not "riding" anyone, I genuinely liked the game and never experienced connection issues until the launch. They weren't expecting the influx. It's all very frustrating, yes, but common and temporary.

PS: Obligatory remark about D4 and how PoE is hard to understand goes here.

I get paid almost nothing to go gather useless garbage from moons inhabited by the unimaginable and feed it to something I can only assume is a cosmic horror.

Still more pleasant than working retail.

10/10, great with coworkers.

I'm just here to add to the mountain of positive reviews.

I can add one piece of input, though: Don't let the videos of people doing insane stuff scare you off, this game has a high skill ceiling with P ranks and speedruns etc but it's still very approachable and fun for casual players.

As a fan of crafting, management, and survival games, I REALLY wanted to like this game. The dark humor and setting are definitely right up my alley and I think they are well done. The art looks pretty good and the lore is pretty intriguing.

However, I can pretty much sum up all of my problems of this game with one word: Tedious.

I can be downright masochistic when it comes to grinding on games (I've even read about how tedious this game could be but shrugged it off because I'm patient) but I think this one was just too much for me. There are lots of long stretches with empty map that you have to traverse to get to any spot. Energy, while being easy to restore is obnoxiously low, you can just carry food with you, but that's just another thing you have to constantly pump out to keep efficient.

The game's timetable system is annoying as all hell, too, having you wait for specific days/times to be able to communicate with certain people. It's especially bothersome when you get the last piece of a villager's request right as they are leaving for the week and you have to wait until they cycle back.

I don't mind challenging games that require a lot of planning, but having to constantly move back and forth from point A to point B and keeping busy doing tasks and running out of energy while you wait for people to show up for quests is just... boring. This is one of the few games I've ever fell asleep playing, this game progresses in real time and I have a large array of turn-based games under my belt.

I think the only saving grace is that (at least to my knowledge) there is no time limit on doing most things, but the annoyances definitely outweigh the payoffs of achieving anything.

Keep in mind, I only played the base game, the DLC might make things better. If you can ignore the tedium and just want something to kill time, this may be an okay game. That being said, I can't recommend it.
