Overall I'd say I'd recommend the game. Thusfar it has been very fun. But, it does come with some caveats and questionable choices.

Lemme set the stage. There I was fighting a boss on a quest run and the cat holding the quest item gets downed. Not a big deal I'd say. Boss was almost dead. And was the last fight of the run. Just damage down the rest of the boss's health and were all good. Well. One of my summons had a different idea. This summon inexplicably decided to head straight for the downed teammate and just start whacking him resulting in the death of that. Alright. That sucks and is strange behaviour. But, no biggy. I've played rogue-likes these games before. Just save and quit and restart the fight. Because ain't no way I am going around trying to get that quest item and redoing all of that and losing my cat over some strange programming. Well. Lo and behold apparently this game has "save-scum" prevention mechanics. You can "save-scum" once per run. But, after that you start getting debuffs for some reason.

Or on another run. I had a tank who's damage was getting kinda ridiculous. And I get a new passive I hadn't seen before. BOUNCER. This passive makes the cat move up to 3 squares and try to attack whatever hit your teammate. I had already considered this stated "creature" not "enemy". So, gotta be careful not to accidentally knick my teammates now. No biggy. I am a big CRPG enjoyer. I got this. Next fight. One teammate gets hit by an enemy and gets knocked into another teammate. Alright TANK CAT time to shine. Beat that dude up >:D. Well, he proceeded to attack my teammate that got knocked into instead of the enemy. Resulting in the death of that cat. In comes another "save-scum" ofc.

To the devs. Please. Your game is already punishing enough with the game having long runs and you losing not only your cats. But, also your equipped gear if they end up dying. Then you have mechanics that clearly weren't properly tested. Resulting in unearned deaths. That is all well and good. We are all humans and make mistakes. But, please. Do not also then add mechanics that prevent people from trying to fix the problems with your game for themselves. That is just flat out wrong.

But, despite all the doom and gloom this might sound like. I do genuinely enjoy the game. Like others have said. The game could use some QoL changes specifically in the cat/house management department. But, I'd give the game a 7 or 8 out of 10 in its current state. And having potential to be a 8 or 9 out of 10 with some pretty simple changes.

So, I would say this game is a great purchase for any Rogue-Like enjoyers.

It is a game clearly inspired by Risk of Rain 2. And if anything. That is a fantastic game to take inspiration from. There is a very good reason why that game is one of the most successful Rogue-Likes of all time. It does of course add some major changes to the formula. Beyond the obvious top-down perspective instead of 3rd person. Mainly that comes in my opinion down to player control. And that manifests itself in some different ways

In terms of items. Most item pickups are a selection of 3 instead of most items being randomly selected. Allowing you to more easily lead your character into a certain type of build. Then there is the safe point inbetween each area where you can test out damage on dummies. But, more importantly there is always a guaranteed item printer there. There is also a item store with an ever increasing pool of items as you climb through the levels and go for loops. And lastly there is a place that allows you to select up to 3 set bonuses as long as you have found the right combinations of items. And these set bonuses can give massive bonuses to certain playstyles.

Secondly in terms of player control there is also the levelup system which is a massive upgrade as compared to Risk of Rain in my opinion. Instead of just a generic stat upgrade to damage and health. You actually get to select from a selection from 3 different stat upgrades each level. And every 5 levels you get to select a special upgrade for 1 of your 4 abilities. And these upgrades aren't just simple stat upgrades either. They can grant the ability healing, chance to activate it again, can add debuffs to enemies and many more options.

And lastly I would say in terms of player control. As compared to Risk of Rain 2. Gatekeeper always still keeps you feeling like you are playing your actual character. There are no combos that are so stupid that they just blow up everything across the entire map instantly. And that you just get turned into a glorified proc bot. You always still need to actually play whatever character you selected. Which in my opinion is a lot better. Since Especially if you go for longer runs in Risk of Rain 2. They usually just devolve into proc fiestas.

So, all in all. Would recommend.

Absolutely fantastic game. It is incredible how they came up with so many fun and different upgrades for your weapons and characters to really completely leave it up to the player how they want to play. The enemy variety leaves a bit to be desired right now. But, it just released into early access. So, that is acceptable. There has clearly been a lot of love and dedication that went into this game. And can't wait for what the future holds.

But, for the love of god increase the gain of Yeuco. I am sitting at 2 Yeuco. While sitting at hundreds of all other resources. :')

Fantastic new release.

Personally really loved the first 2 hammerwatch games. And wasn't much of a fan of Hammerwatch 2 personally.
But, HoH 2 feels like largely just a direct upgrade to the original HoH. Am really enjoying playing through the game. And it is already well on it's way to become my most played of the franchise and will most likely easily surpass the previous entries. Just off of me trying out all the different builds in the game.

Definitely would recommend for anyone that enjoyed the original HoH.

THEY CAN'T KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH THIS!!!

Supergiant games just putting out banger after banger for years now. Honestly should be illegal how capable this studio is.

10/10 would recommend.

I have not played the game that much yet. Will be waiting to continue untill the multiplayer patch comes out. Primarily since this game seems to be something really special and I would like to experience it with friends.

There may be still a lot of optimization to do for now since it just released in Early Access. But, clearly just like their previous title in Ori and the Blind Forest, Moon Studios has an amazing team and great passion for game development and are hard at work creating the best product they can.

All in all looking forward to what the game has in store for me and my friends once we can play together. The anticipation is killing me though.

Haven't finished the game yet. But, honestly one of the best Souls-Likes that I have played. Genuinely having a blast playing through the game.

Pros
-Umbral mechanic rewards people that pay attention to their surroundings and has plenty of secrets hidden within.
-World is completely interconnected reminiscent of Dark Souls 1. But, imo done even better obviously in an attempt to make traversal through the world more enjoyable with the addition of many shortcuts to previous areas.
-Enemy placement seems cheap in some places at first. But, as you learn the patterns and signs of enemy placement it becomes much easier to deal with.
-Stellar boss design
-Amazing visuals
-The rune system allows for a couple of interesting choices to be made in regards to build and weapon choices
-Dev team seems dedicated to fix the issues some players have had

Cons
-A lack of unique effects on weapons which is kind of sad if you are playing a pure physical build
-Some balancing issues (understandable due to being just released)

Honestly would recommend if you are looking for an enjoyable new rpg to play through.
