The game looks beautiful and runs incredibly well, especially on Steam Deck. Even on low settings it was close to 60 FPS with no obvious drawbacks, which was really impressive.

Stealth can be a bit frustrating at times, but you do get used to it. Checkpoints are fair and load times are quick, so retrying sections isn’t too punishing. The rat mechanics are a highlight, and the different throwables keep puzzles interesting, although controlling them with Hugo was confusing at first.

The story starts off a little slow, and Hugo’s powers felt like they were introduced quite late, but it was still engaging enough to keep me going. The characters are solid, and Hugo is probably the most polite kid I’ve seen in a game.

The final stretch was the weakest part for me. The cart section took me around 25 attempts, and the final boss around 15, which felt more frustrating than challenging. I also encountered a game-breaking bug where companions would instantly get caught after loading in, which didn’t help.

Overall, I’d give it a 6.5 to 7 out of 10.

Creepy, atmospheric, and engaging puzzle game. Really enjoyed it overall, even if the ending left me slightly confused.

I first came across Exit 8 last year and was interested, but wasn’t sure how scary it would be. After finding out there was a film and watching it recently, it pushed me to finally give the game a go.

It’s very short, but that actually works in its favour. The gameplay is repetitive by design, but it keeps your mind fully engaged and even creates a sense of paranoia at times. It constantly keeps you thinking and paying attention.

It genuinely caught me off guard a couple of times, especially when my mind started to wander, which quickly pulled me back into full focus. From the start it feels super creepy, and the realistic graphics really add to the tension.

Overall, it’s a great experience that’s left me wanting more. It’s made me want to watch more films with this kind of vibe and even check out the sequel.

I went into Resident Evil 4 having never played the original, so I didn’t really have any expectations. I was actually a bit confused at first, as I’d always assumed the series was centred around the T-virus, so this felt quite different from what I expected.

Combat felt smooth overall, although it could feel a bit clunky and awkward when enemies got too close. There’s a good variety of weapons to choose from, which keeps things interesting. It leans more towards action and tension rather than pure horror, but it still managed to make me jump a few times.

The story was decent, although it felt a bit disconnected from the rest of the franchise. Playing this also made me feel like I might have missed a previous entry, as there were characters Leon already seemed to know. The cast was solid overall, and I especially liked Luis.

The game looks fantastic and ran perfectly on my PC, and surprisingly very well on my Steam Deck too. I also really appreciated the motion sickness settings, which made a big difference for me. Voice acting was solid, and the overall atmosphere felt fitting throughout.

Playtime: 13.9 hours

One major frustration was constantly running out of ammo, even on easy mode. It felt counterintuitive for an assisted difficulty and made some sections more frustrating than they should have been, especially with knife durability also being a factor.

Overall, I’m glad I played it. It was fun and I got through it quicker than I expected. I’d give it a 7 out of 10 and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys this kind of game. The puzzles were also straightforward and easy to figure out.

I started Islets on a bit of a whim after picking it up in a metroidvania bundle. It had been a while since I’d played a game in the genre, mainly because I’d burned out on Hollow Knight, which I found a bit too difficult. I’d heard of Islets before but didn’t know much about it, and going in I didn’t have high expectations.

It ended up surprising me almost immediately. Id classify it as one of those 'Hidden Gem' games that i will be recommending forever.

Movement feels incredibly smooth, and the combat is just as satisfying. The different abilities really gel together, and as you unlock more, you can feel yourself improving. Chaining moves never felt difficult, which makes the whole experience flow really well.

Compared to other metroidvanias I’ve played, this felt much easier to pick up and far smoother overall. I started on Normal difficulty but switched to Easy about two thirds of the way through, as some of the bosses became a bit too challenging for me. Even then, the platforming and general gameplay still offered a nice level of challenge without becoming frustrating.

One of the biggest quality of life features for me is that you don’t lose your loot on death. This is something that usually puts me off other games in the genre, as constantly backtracking can get frustrating quickly. On top of that, save points and portals are placed really well, often close to bosses and spaced out in a way that respects your time.

I also really liked how the game is structured around travelling between islands using your flying ship. Having mini bosses in between and unlocking new areas as you go kept progression feeling fresh and rewarding.

The story was actually really enjoyable. It’s not particularly deep, but it gives you just enough context and motivation to keep exploring and progressing.

The characters and dialogue are kept fairly light and never drag on, which works in the game’s favour. I especially enjoyed the humour, which stayed consistent and landed well right through to the end.

The game is genuinely gorgeous, with a really strong art direction throughout. The cartoony character designs give it a lot of charm and personality, and everything feels cohesive.

Each area has a beautiful background that flows really well with the rest of the environment, making exploration feel visually rewarding as you move between zones.

The music fits each area really well, helping to set the tone throughout the game. It can feel light and upbeat in some moments, while shifting to something more tense in later areas, which adds to the atmosphere nicely.

I also loved the character voices, which gave off strong Banjo Kazooie vibes. That style immediately resonated with me and added a lot of charm to the overall experience.

Pros:
Lots of quality of life improvements that clearly build on what other metroidvanias do well, and improve them in meaningful ways.
Engaging gameplay and a light but enjoyable story that kept me coming back for more.
A well-paced experience that doesn’t overstay its welcome, with plenty of collectibles and a map system that’s very easy to follow.

Cons:
The only real issue I had was with the control indicators and button mapping. The game defaults to PlayStation icons, and even after changing them, the setting didn’t seem to stick. I ended up sticking with the PlayStation layout despite using an Xbox controller, and the start button didn’t work properly at times. Button remapping also felt a bit inconsistent, sometimes assigning the wrong inputs, which was frustrating even if I eventually worked around it.

Overall, this is genuinely one of the best, if not the best metroidvania I’ve played. I gave it a 5 out of 5, mainly because the only real issue I had was with the control setup, which didn’t actually affect gameplay for me in the end. This especially means something because it was made by 2 brothers, just 2 people!

I’d recommend it to anyone who enjoys metroidvanias and is looking for a fun, well-paced experience that captures those classic vibes while still feeling modern and accessible.

Life is Strange: Reunion was something I preordered as soon as I could after loving every other game in the series. I played on Steam on a fairly decent PC, so performance wasn’t an issue, although there were some noticeable graphical problems throughout however, not game breaking.

The first hour felt pretty fast paced compared to other entries in the series.

Gameplay felt quite similar to Double Exposure. It was slightly strange (pun intended) not playing in an episodic format this time around, but honestly, I didn’t mind once I got used to it. The game still focuses heavily on exploration, dialogue choices, and decision-making.

I’ve always struggled a bit with the rewind time mechanic, and that was still the case here, it felt a little clunky at times and tricky to get right. Exploration itself felt good, although more linear than in previous games. I thought I was being thorough, but by the end I realised I’d missed quite a few collectibles.

Choices felt meaningful and fairly definitive, although when it came to trying to figure out the “who done it”, I honestly had no idea, even though it felt like I’d put a lot into dialogue and exploration.

I’ve always played the original Life is Strange with Max and Chloe as best friends, so in this game I felt almost pushed into making their relationship romantic. The way they spoke to each other didn’t feel like how close friends would normally talk, which made some of the interactions feel a bit off to me. Because of that, I ended up choosing the “kiss” option when prompted, even though it didn’t feel like the right choice for how I saw them.

I also found the relationship with Safi really confusing. She often came across as hostile, and no matter what I chose, it never felt like I was able to change how she felt. Seeing at the end that I was in a small percentage of players who didn’t keep her alive made it feel like I’d done something wrong, rather than it being a natural outcome of my choices.

The game looks stunning, much like Double Exposure, and it was great to be back on campus with small variations throughout. The environments are detailed and help maintain the atmosphere which LIS is greatly known for.

However, I did run into quite a few graphical glitches, which pulled me out of the immersion multiple times. They weren’t constant, but happened often enough to be noticeable and slightly distracting from the overall experience.

The music wasn’t as iconic as in previous Life is Strange games, although it still felt appropriate during gameplay. It matched the tone of each scene, but nothing really stood out as particularly memorable.

With earlier entries in the series, I found myself adding multiple songs to my Spotify after finishing them, but with this one, none of the tracks stuck with me in the same way.

The storyline involving Ren’s father didn’t fully align with how old he appeared at the time of his death, which felt inconsistent. Maybe i just missed clues about it but i came away feeling unsatisfied with that part of the story.

I’d give Life is Strange: Reunion a 6.5 out of 10. It’s not the strongest entry in the series, but I still enjoyed my time playing it and being reunited with the original Max and Chloe duo. While some of the story elements and character interactions left me confused, I appreciated revisiting familiar faces and exploring the world again. I think I’ll be checking out how others felt about it, which may help me form a more cohesive opinion on the game as a whole.

Disclaimer - I used ChatGPT to help me write this for the first time. I often find it hard to get my thoughts down on paper when writing a review after finishing a game and it helped me with prompts i could answer in bite sized chunks then put it altogether where i edited down to make it feel like something more that i would write naturally.

I'm so happy I've finished this!

I set out last year to play it after completing the first but every step of the way it has made me feel motion sick. Not sure what i could have done to negate this but i struggled through.

The story was good although not very deep but i cant really complain from a game made over 20 years ago. The gameplay and use of the different guns and gravity gun was pretty fun and i enjoyed the variety it gave you.

It was less hard than the first which i appreciated. Will probably play Episode 1 someday once my stomach has calmed down.

BUT IS IT DEAD THOUGH.

When i first purchased this after RE2 remake i didn't realise how short of a story it would be until i looked it up just before playing but i have to admit, although a controversial opinion i feel it was just right for me. My nerves cant handle too much and this was a great game in the small package it was delivered in. I loved the much like RE2 gameplay it had although i never understood the melee. I don't think the acting was too bad and there were several scare jumps that got me while not taking itself too seriously. I very much enjoyed the story although WHY WAS NEMESIS ALWAYS AFTER HER?! And am looking forward to playing the others now i have the RE bug.

I wanted to love this one, overall i liked it, a fair amount but i felt that most of it was quite underwhelming. The story was okay for me, i would have liked a bit more lore that i understood but maybe this is just because i dont know too much about star wars outside of the movies.

The combat was fun... once i turned it down from normal to easy mode which i felt was completely unnecessary for my level of experience. It was quite frustrating at times to feel the combat flow but when i turned it down to easy and took hardly any damage it was much more fluid and i loved feeling powerful as a Jedi with my light saber, i finally felt the coolness that i thought i would playing this game.

I will likely play its sequel when it goes on a very good sale as id like to know more about where they go with the story as it was interesting. I just hope they've improved upon the combat and movement in the gameplay.

My only gripe? Simply too short, i could have played this FOREVER. Its absolutely fantastic and i was SHOOK at the end. I was on the edge of my seat. I loved everything about this game. The quality of the acting and the story and the love put in to this really came through. The humour was top notch, i lolled multiple times throughout the game and ended up loving every character so much.
