There's a lot here to unpack. Some is revolutionary-good, some is meh, and some is really bad. I'll try to split it out. First the really good:

Resources - they're meaningful and interesting. Huge upgrade.
Independent Powers - Probably the best improvement of the game. Fantastic upgrade from Barbs and City States.
City Growth - Another great upgrade. I had doubts, but I don't miss builders!
Masteries - A solid addition to the trees
Military Leaders - Very functional and useful - a good upgrade
Espionage - I like it packed into diplomacy. Slight upgrade.
Trade - Hard to figure out at first, but another slight upgrade
Legacy paths - I actually really like the changes to victory conditions and the more obviously trackable nature of them. It's a little inflexible, but not bad.
Towns - I love them. Keeps down the micromanagement, but adds to strategic capabilities.

The Meh:
- Religion is boring and useless. At least there's not quite so many damned missionaries spawned.
- Goodie Huts aren't as cool early game, but stay more meaningful as the game goes on.
- Leader models are weak
- Crisis are interesting, but also very irritating.
- Early game balance skews heavily towards production. Food focus is underpowered.
- Long swaths of gametime just basically clicking "next turn"

The Terribad:
- Age changes are surprisingly okay for the most part, but evolving from, say, Rome into Ming makes zero sense. A less flexible tree would be more logical. One of few places that I think less options is better.
- Too much resets on age change. I don't see why units should disappear, but religions in cities chage, independent powers disappear, and some wars and alliances reset. I don't see the point.
- The UI teaches you very little. It's awful. I had to learn Trade by trial and error, basically.
- Not enough notifications when certain things occur - for example, a unit dying of plague.

Altogether, it's good. It needs a lot of work, but the only core feature I don't care for is changing Civs in too weird ways during age change. As a feature, it's okay.

It's not nearly as fleshed out or refined as Stardew Valley, but it's very much in the same style, and is getting consistently updated to add more. The focus on Inn operations is a more novel take, and there's a lot to like here. If the development continues as it has been, this will be a really solid game going forward.

It's better than Coronavirus, which is, incidentally, the name of my religion in CivVI
