The initial launch to 1.0 was quite a mess, don't get me wrong. But after a few days, I've been having a blast. Connection has not been an issue; the end game system is thoroughly enjoying, and I still have so many builds to try to play. I love this game, absolutely worth your money.

I'm changing my recommendation on this game as of 03-21-25.

It's not because of any particular update; it's a culmination of actions by the developer of the game. Public communication and the direction the game is going is not in a state that I can actually recommend this game in good faith.

I make content for this game. I have a YT channel of ~2400 subscribers at the time of writing this, and continually help people progress their accounts if they're stuck. Over time, the devoted members of my community have slowly trickled out and quit the game.

This game has had waves of controversy - first four years ago, then 2 years ago, and now today. The game is increasingly become more and more pay to win, and this has been a core component of the criticism facing IdleOn for those years. It doesn't matter how you define pay to win, and the game labeling itself as "Idle" feels almost disingenuous - the game by all means requires a lot of active attention the deeper and deeper you get into it. Straight up being able to buy player power, or even locking yourself out of permanent bonuses for months at a time because you chose not to buy a pack on rotation, is unacceptable.

Pet companions provide insane account boosts, and the initial criticism is that to guarantee "King Doot" requires up to $400. The new pet companions require less, but the player power you're able to 'buy' is also incredible - a 10x damage multiplier? 3x villager xp and 25 opals which help progress one of the endgame mechanics stupidly fast?

Last week, a pack was introduced for $20. It introduced a hat that provided you a 2.5x class XP bonus; it also gave you 'raffle tickets' for an untradeable no-bonus cosmetic pet. It also gave you 3,000 pet crystals and 4,500 gems.

This update, he released another pack with a guarantee of a legacy pet that lets you use storage anywhere, 1,000 pet crystals, 2100 gems, 20 storage space, and 1.5x damage multiplier.

It feels like there's a continual release of 'paid packs' that introduce power in ways that distort player power each and every time they're introduced.

If you manage to get every pack, it will cost you a whopping $419. What do all of those give you?
- 3 AFK gain premium hats
- 50% money gain trophy
- 11% monster XP premium hat
- 10% additive total damage cape
- 2.5x class exp premium hat
- 2.5x coin multiplier from pets
- 60% afk gain & 50% damage multi robe attire
- +5 meal ribbons per day
- 200% additive drop rate
- 100% damage multi & 60% DR robe attire
- +30% afk gains
- 1.5x villager xp multiplier
- +10 bubble levels every day
- +2 meal levels every day
- +5 stamp levels every day
- 50% damage multi & 60% money increase cape
- 4x to each w6 skill time skips
- 50% equinox bar fill rate
- 1.2x class Xp multiplier
- 10% all stats premium chat ring
- 30% expedition island bottles
- 1.2x account-wide drop rate
- auto-loot feature
- storage space
- lots and lots more (premium wings, card packs, gem envelopes, boss spawns, etc).

The developer has created shadow-nerfs to certain f2p-"friendly" mechanics, namely boss gem farming and a daily quest line. By 'shadow' nerf, I mean he hasn't publicly announced changes to it.

I've hounded the developer over and over again to be more public about his communications, but it seems that the efforts have been in vain. I have more I would like to say, but I think this encapsulates just some of the issues I have with the game - and I can't really continue to support the development of a game that, in my opinion, has worse monetization features than most of the games that I play on a regular basis.

I've been following the game for quite a while now, and even backed in on Kickstarter. This game is different from other RPGs in that it does not have a hand-holding tutorial to it. It assumes you know a bit about game mechanics and lets you do whatever you want, and I like that. At the time of writing this, the game is not complete as the early access implies: crafting still to be added and fleshed out, house buying and decoration, other lands to explore, etc. The combat feels great for me, the "skill" system is more of a mastery system and it's cool as well.

The game still has its bugs and problems, but it's an early access game and if you tracked the progress on the developer's YouTube page you would see the progress that it has made over the past year, hell, even the past few months. A lot has changed and I see no sign of it slowing down so far. As an added bonus the community of players is great!

The game is quite enjoyable, but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ is it a work out on the higher difficulties.

This game, although not completely finished, is simply stunning. I remember playing Risk of Rain solo for hours on end, devoting countless hours to just one playthrough. RoR2 does not make me deviate from that same behavior. The graphics are gorgeous for this game. Some levels have an awkward, dull color palate to them and can be slightly annoying if you are stuck trying to find the teleporter on it for more than 10 minutes.

I have waited months to play this game, and I bought it and played it immediately after release, and I was deeply satisfied with the results. I could not have asked for a better early release, and I can not wait to play more of it.
