I have been putting off writing this review because I feel like anything I am able to write will be insufficient to express how completely this game has blown past any and all of my expectations.

There are many reviews which say this is a perfect marriage between Disco Elysium and Planescape. To me, while I agree with this sentiment, I think this game is its own masterpiece. It is this generation's Planescape, something that will be talked about for decades to come as one of the seminal works by which all future games are judged.

Esoteric Ebb is so perfect in every aspect it is difficult for me to even find where to begin when describing its qualities. The writing is sublime, from the world building, magic system, history, the main plot, the side plots, the internal dialogue, the meta dialogue, and everything in between is interesting, enthralling, captivating.

The original score is tonally perfect in every aspect and weaved perfectly into the game.

The art direction is unique and every character has a unique portrait which is mesmerizing, they fit perfectly into the larger world. Every inch of the scenery appears handcrafted by a master.

The gameplay, aside from movement, is mostly done via text/dialogue which works seamlessly together with the larger game world. One nice small touch I noticed was the game doesn't "pause" during dialogue which many games do. This makes conversations and events feel alive and breathes even more life into the game. The game is mostly resolved through dice rolls, and there are items in the game which can influence your rolls as well as allowing you to choose when you want to reroll.

Character customization is interesting. You are filling a premade role as The Cleric, with their own backstory. However, you are given incredible freedom to choose how they develop and who they are from the moment you take the controls.

The supporting cast is great. Characters that are instantly lovable (Meek!) and have their own development throughout the story which is quite rewarding to witness and be a part of.

To the developer: Thank you! You have created a masterpiece! I have been gaming for more than thirty years and never thought I would see an RPG check all the boxes like you have managed to do.
