I am so happy to recommend a game finally for the creature capture genre.
There are several things I look for in the genre and while some of it may seem shallow it's a bit of the fun of a creature capture game that makes it matter more than it would for other games. Similar to how a visual novel needs to elevate its writing because of the expectations behind the genre.

1. Creative monster designs - This matters so much for a creature capture game. Half of the fun of getting new monsters is that they appeal in one way or another. Beastieball's creatures are all exciting to find and while currently in early access not all of them are complete, you can see the roughs of how good they will look so I feel safe in saying that this passes.

2. Interesting/fun battle mechanics - The abilities in the game combined with the fact that it's doubles makes combat a real vibe. I honestly think that doubles is my favorite type of creature battle system because it opens up more support and combination ideas which Beastieball takes advantage of. Without going too into the weeds on this, there's so many cool setups.

3. Music/World/Aesthetics - Going to just lump these three together even though they are all very different things. Overall this is just that everything is a vibe in this game. Truly the music deserves its own recognition because I legitimately got excited at multiple points in the game and the music was amplifying that. The world is colorful and delightful, enhanced by the creatures roaming through it. I don't need for the world to make perfect sense to enjoy the changes of one zone to another and I look forward to more of the world opening up in the future. The aesthetics of the game has this real boppy scratchy art that is just a delight to look at.

Rare do I sit down to write a review for a game that I like, let alone love but I think it's really important to get people to see a game that the devs loved to work on--that shakes up the genre a little--and is worth the money to buy. It's important to support these kinds of games to see more of this kind of game into the future and I look forward to streaming this game to people soon to encourage more people to look into it.

Probably one of the best games I've played this year. Huge improvements over My Time at Portia. Well worth the price!
