I can't recommend the DLC in its current form: you can earn better jackets for free, nobody pays attention to bought titles, and the point boosts are very small.

When I bought it, it also contained the in-game currency "aurum" in sufficient quantity I was able to buy a stealth hoverboard (briefly makes you invisible to enemies) and a bank expansion with it, with some left over. I may have also bought a running speed boost and bag expansion for an alt (aurum, unlike the other currencies, is account-wide, not limited to a single character). See what you are missing?

If you're a newbie starting out (and that's the only time the ability and skill point bonus would look at all exciting to you) you'd be much better off investing it in a month of Patron time, which is cheaper but gives you substantial bonuses to each quest and free anima well hopping, which can otherwise quickly eat up much more shards than this DLC gives. If you just want to spend real money to show support, buy some aurum in-game and use it to get some of the cool outfits they sell in the wardrobe store.

I recommend the game itself for the story. I don't recommend rushing to the end, though, because there's nothing there. There's no real PVP to speak of, either and there's definitely nothing for wallet warriors to brag about. In fact, collectors who just have to have every clothing and pet item may not even want to start, because there are cosmetics that you can't get unless you used to play The Secret World and transfered over. And there are achievements you can never get now, because those events have passed. But there's a few storylines I can think of that you will always remember, and the game is free to play, so give it a try.

Don't let the birds get me.

I'm primarily a traditional MMO player, so I was really surprised that this FPS-heavy one where everyone has battleframes caught my attention. I'm not really a fan of mecha, either. But for maybe the first 700 hours I played the game, it was great. I played mostly assault-style frames like the Tigerclaw, where the whole point of the frame was to be nimble and jump around the field a lot, with an afterburner letting you stay in the air for a long period of time. This was also key to managing a lot of the terrain easily.

But after the last major patch and subsequent fixes, I can't stay in the air more than a few seconds. I can't do all my terrain tricks any more. I can't even use my vehicles the same way. And this is all intentional. Even if I could, a lot of the old storylines have changed. Sure, the scenery looks better in places. Certainly busier, at least. But the heart's gone out of it, I think.

Within the game, there used to be a hidden crayon drawing, taped up behind a bookcase, from a kid who was the admiral's son. Just one of the billions of people who died in the initial tragedy, but someone whose death we knew about. It was just a small thing that most people never saw, but for me it made everything and everyone we lost personal, and served as a reminder why we shouldn't give in and let the Melding and oblivion overtake us. But, like so many other things, that's apparently been lost or moved. And dim memories of the past are no longer enough to sustain the effort in this game, especially when it appears they're no longer shared by whoever is directing this, now.

The "new" starting story is very much on rails, and should be easier for someone who has never played it before. Some of the new story with its enhanced scenery is even pretty cool. But further along its handholding turns into handwaving away the things that matter, and now I reluctantly raise my own hand to say goodbye.

Think of it as a variation of a stacker game like Tetris, with a soundtrack that changes with every piece you place. Relaxing, easy to ignore the goals.
