Yes, Steam Overlay will work, therefore you can take screenshots, use the web browser, chat with your friends, etc. I made a guide detailing a few ways of running Doom (including ZDoom), i recommend checking it if you don't know how to do it.

I followed this guide to compile the levels into a single .WAD file. The only difference is that I used ZDoom instead.

I played with the keyboard, so I really don't know how to set it up, sorry. If you do set it up, playing with a controller should be alright, it's similar to GTA, and auto-aim is always on.
