This seems like a great game, but it is currently unplayable because of input lag. I literally can't even brush my teeth in the first scene. This goes both for native Linux version *and* Proton.

A wonderful & old, but very chill game, sadly abandoned and in desperate need of a remake or a remaster. By 2025 standards, the graphics are obviously not great, and pathfinding is buggy. Gameplay is neat, but the technical experience is not fun (graphical glitches, performance issues, etc). You're sort of rolling the dice if you're buying it, but if it works for you, and you're into city builders, you're probably going to enjoy it.

If the devs make a modern reboot, my guess is I'd probably be a hit.

I've been thinking for a long time how to write a review for this game.

As a game, on its own, it's actually okay. As you already probably know from other reviews, it's quite buggy, and the UX is clunky at the least. But if you like the RTT genre, you're going to like it anyway. But that's not what concerns me for this review.

You see, the game is one of multiple games on Steam now that tries to build up nationalist sentiment of a specific country, in this case, Poland. And I get it, Polish people got the short end of the stick plenty of times in history. But it shouldn't be done at the expense of accurate history.

If you play this game, you'll notice that it tries very, *very* hard to equate Nazis and Soviets. In fact, at certain points in the game, the whole Holocaust seems almost like a backstory to the real villains - the Soviets. Now, I'm not here to defend Soviet atrocities and war crimes - quite the contrary. There is no doubt that they acted horribly towards many of the "satellite" states and peoples. But they sure as hell weren't worse, or even the same as the damned literal Nazis. If you look up actual history, most of the war crimes done by the soviets were done for political reasons. There certainly wasn't any industrial scale killing the likes of which can be compared to the Nazis.

But, you don't have to take my word for it. When Poland was occupied in 1939., it is estimated by the Polish Institute of National Remembrance that the country suffered almost six million deaths. That's over 20% of the population, and one of the most horrible atrocities in the history of the world. In includes Polish, Jewish, Ukrainian, and Belarusian victims (and others, of course). It is also estimated that around 150,000 people died due to soviet occupation, versus the ~5,500,000 people who died due to the Nazis. Yes, you will find different numbers than those depending on who you ask, but the ratio doesn't change much. For example, Rudolph Rummel (political scientist and statistician) estimates ~328,000 Soviet victims, and ~5,400,000 Nazi victims. That's more than a doubling of Soviet victims, and it's still not even close.

So, does this game give a clear picture of these numbers? Does the Soviet side seem ~36 times "less evil" than the Nazis in this game? Or even "just" ~17 times, if we take the higher numbers? I personally don't think it does. I think the game tries too hard to make them look the same, which is some cold war era style propaganda. It shows a very one-sided story, with some nationalist mythology built in.

As a side note, I got the same feeling from the demo of Last Train Home, where the Soviets are basically cartoon villains from the beginning - acting evil for absolutely no particular reason but to advance the plot.

And you know what - that's perfectly fine. This was a fun game to play, I can't complain. You should probably play it too, in spite of all the bugs, it's a decent game, even though the theme is grim and dark.

But, don't take your history from it without some scepticism. It would be unfair to those Soviet men and women who fought and crushed the Nazi war machine, without committing crimes. Their story is important too.

TL;DR: Great game, ruined by bugs and horrible controls.

Great art, decent voice acting, great noir detective story... and weird card collecting, horrible camera, laggy quick time actions, and most importantly - buggy deduction mechanism. More often than not, clues would be missing that I just discovered, making it impossible to deduce anything until something else happens and triggers another clue, making the previous clue now visible.

It's a great game, and if you're into this kind of genre, very much worth your time. But prepare to be frustrated at times, for absolutely no reason than the publisher/developer laziness, who had a chance to make a great game, and then decided to try to create a dumpster fire. Luckily, they didn't entirely succeed and it's still worth it.

TL;DR: amazing storytelling, complex characters and situations, atmospheric art, great soundtrack.

If you're playing games to experience a good story, you'll probably want to get this. In terms of actual point and click adventure puzzles, the game is very easy, and is mostly centered around moral decisions.

As for the flaws, there might be some depending on your taste: the game features a lot of long and in many cases (sadly) unskippable dialogues, so at times it can feel more like a visual novel than a game. Also, it suffers from the age-old problem of all point and click adventures - waiting for characters to walk across the screen.

Overall, it's a well written story, and a well executed game, and probably worth your time if you're already on the edge.

I love this game, but I do not recommend it until the developers get their heads out of their arses. Let me explain.

The game mechanics are essentially a turn-based puzzle game with a WW2 skin. This basically combines several things that I like in games. I have basically zero complaints about the game mechanics. It's fairly enjoyable on its own.

However, there are no proper save games. Yes, there are workarounds and file-copying and whatever the hell is happening at UoC2 at the moment of writing this. But there are no proper, plain, save my ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game features. The game automatically saves after a campaign mission, and the campaign is ruined after your loss, and so on.

You see, the developers of this game are obsessed with something called "save-scumming". You know, when you fail at something in the game, and you want another shot? The staple of PC gaming since...well, forever? Well, apparently, the devs of this game don't like this. They don't want you to enjoy their creation, they want you to suffer. You can't save your campaign at at any point you want, and you can't save individual missions whenever you want to. You can't save if, for example, you just want to try a different tactic. You know, have fun. With a game.

I don't know about you, but I play games for fun and relaxation. There are a few things I like about gaming: experiencing a new and interesting story, learning new things, or having a brainy puzzle that makes my mind work in new and unexpected ways. I'm in my late thirties at the moment of writing this, and I've playing games for a long time. I have very little spare time now, you know, on account of having a job and other real-life chores and obligations. So I have literally zero time to waste on your save-scumming ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I have ZERO TIME to repeat the WHOLE ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mission or the WHOLE ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ campaign just because you dimwits think it's a good idea to make your game a literal chore to play, so you can retain some sort of sense of superiority.

All of this because the developers are too lazy to implement difficulty levels. If you want to waste time and play without saving - have it as an option. Don't be lazy, devs. There is another interesting thing about this: there are no achievements, so nobody will ever even know if you're a save-scummer or some sort of brilliant tactician (who probably copied a youtube video).

Now, here's the fun part: the developers know all of this. Thread after thread, topic after topic has been written over the years. People are complaining about this all the damn time. But no, the devs hate the "save-scumming" people having fun with their game. So, I have to leave this review, even if I genuinely love the game. With only ~20h hours spent playing it, it is questionable when and if I'm ever going to play it again, because I know it will feel like a chore again. When the price of UoC2 drops significantly, I'll probably give that a go as well. Am I going to recommend it? Probably not. Not until I can have a decent save/load implemented, and for a game as simple as this, I expect a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ quicksave/quickload as well.

(Anticipating the save-scumming-to-exploit-RNG comments: Civ3 solved this in 2001! Two-thousand-and-one! There are *no* excuses for not having this in 2020.)

Fantastic game to play with your SO, with the caveat that you may find out your SO is not as calm as (s)he appears to be.

If you're a fan of city building genre, and/or puzzle games, this little gem is a must buy! The game is easy to learn, but difficult to master. It has only one tiny (and I really do mean *tiny*) flaw, it would benefit from an option to have a grid system visible, because it is sometimes difficult to estimate whether a place will be able to accommodate a building. Other than that, it runs and plays flawlessly on my linux machine.

This game doesn't look like much at first, but it is. It's fun, it's polished, and if you like puzzles, you will enjoy it very much. The fact that it is set in the Hitman world is just a bonus, the theme could be anything.

This is a mobile port, but it is a mobile port done right, with one exception: you move by "dragging" the Hitman figure. Which should have been made a click action. It is even more weird when you realize that there is a click mechanic in the game (for sniping and throwing rocks for example), so I guess someone in the management didn't want to invest in an obvious improvement over the mobile version. This is basically the only flaw of the game, your wrist will suffer a bit, but the quality of the game overcome that.

Also a huge plus: Linux support.

If you like puzzles, brainy challenges, and/or Hitman series, you'll probably enjoy this.

I don't usually write reviews, but I'll make an exception for this..."game".

Buy it.

Now.

The story is one of the best ever; and if you think you know what it is about, you're wrong. This game is as much about you, the player, as it is about the main character and his arch enemy. The mechanics of the game are a bit awkward at times (I died too many times because I couldn't unglue myself from cover), the gameplay is - as everyone keeps repeating - just ok...but none of that matters.

The ambient, the characters, dialogues... this game will make you do things. Things you probably did many times in other games. This time, it's different.

And do yourself a favour and stop reading reviews, you're going to spoil the journey, and you won't have anyone to blame but yourself.
