I went into gotg expecting it to be like Mass Effect, and more RPG-like. Instead, it ended up being one of the most fun sci fi story driven experiences I've played in awhile.

Going to skip story, since it's probably best experienced firsthand, and if you don't know Guardians comics explaining it won't do much good anyway. Best way to talk about it is the writing was surprisingly good, and the comedy landed more often than not. The guardians interact with each other often to the point that it's clear this isn't their first mission together, and won't be their last. Every character you find and interact with feels like they were meant to be there. No NPC felt wasted.

It has Telltale style storytelling and choices, which do surprisingly matter. It doesn't affect the overall plot, but it has implications on how side characters treat you, and some even change larger events that come into play later on. So choosing wisely is a good idea.

Combatwise, it's a 3rd person shooter, but if that's all you see you're missing a lot. The game has what is called a "momentum" system that encourages you to switch up how you approach fights to get the most out of it, and get your team's skills faster. Between that, and the arena style fights, it kept me switching things up in terms of larger fights, and kept things interesting. For those abilities, everyone gets 3 main moves as well as an ultimate ability later on, on top of star-lord's element guns getting more elements as you progress. Between using ice to freeze enemies to take them out of combat, or using wind to pull snipers to you and punch out their lights, to using rocket's gravity grenades to bring enemies together to aoe them or have drax rush the group down, you have options. It kept the combat feeling fresh throughout.

Theres also some exploration and collectables. While most of the ones I found were pretty out in the open, I still missed a ton of costumes and other small things, that I'd like to go back and get later on. However, nothing game changing is hidden, so if you don't want to explore every nook and cranny of a level as you progress, you don't really have to.
I wish there were some side quests and other optional missions though. They hinted at a lot of space marvel mainstays like Richard Rider Nova, Galactus, and a good amount of random weapons throughout marvel in The Collector's personal collection that may have made me nerd out a little bit.

The soundtrack was fantastic. I played all of it off stream, so I got to enjoy the 80s jams in full force, and it was absolutely worth it. Having the final countdown play at random during a big fight was hilarious, and appreciated.

The only real issue I had was some of the lines in combat were repeated a little too much to the people of Xenoblade syndrome. It got annoying pretty quick. Beyond that, I did have quite a few issues where Star-Lord would get stuck on terrain forcing me to restart, but the checkpoints are often enough that it didn't take me out of the experience.

Overall, I enjoyed the game a lot. I would probably give it about 3.75 stars out of 5 due to the bugs and lack of side quests. However, I am holding out some hope they fix the latter with story dlc, as the game deserves it. Not a bad game to start off 2022 with (even though the game came out in 2021).

Between the exploration, the actually challenging tombs, and some of the best set pieces I've seen in a long time, probably better then all the uncharted games, this is not one to miss. 9/10

I like 4x. I do. It's a great genre for fans of strategy. After playing hours upon hours of civ 4, a few of the total war games, warlock 2, civ 5, then finally beyond earth, I started to get a bit bored on basic science and diplomatic based victories because I just didn't like combat in civ. I picked up Age of Wonders 3 during the past sale, and I'm really enjoying myself. Compared to civ, elements like the way tech and buildings worked took a bit to get used to, but i'm really starting to fall in love with the game. It combines the grand 4x strategy of civ, with a much better combat system similar to what you would see in a hex based strategy game like might and magic, and I feel the fusion was extremely well done. I'm doing something I haven't done in a strategy game like this in a long time, and that is seek out combat. I love the feeling of flanking opponents for massive damage, just to realize I left a commander unguarded and having to wait a few turns before it respawns, and having to build up armies again. I'm still in the middle of my first game, but I can forsee many more in my future, and would recommend this to my civ loving friends out there, especially if you're getting sick of boring combat. 9/10

The premiere fencing simulator! The best way to describe this game is 1v1 fencing tug of war, something that makes no sense without actually seeing the game. With the extra game modes, this game has endless replayability. It also has good online multiplayer as well as pretty good ai for the single player, but it is best played 1v1 local, so you may see the anguish of your opponent as you stab them, jump over them, then run for dear life as you win! Far too much fun to pass up. 10/10

The last Naruto Ultimate Ninja game I played was 3 on the ps2. I have enjoyed the series quite a bit, as it is one of my favorite 3d fighting game series to date. Now, for this one in particular, the game is very good. Unfortunately the port is not. My biggest gripes are no video options beyond anti-aliasing, screen size, v-sync, or windowed mode, the game is locked at 30 fps with no option in configs to up it to 60, and the online is extremely laggy if you can even find an opponent, which you won't. Also, while you can play with the keyboard, it is not recommended as the port was designed with controllers in mind. On the upside, the story is good. Now, I haven't kept up in the series for awhile so I had no clue what was going on, I was enjoying the ride it took me on. Characters are unlocked for multiplayer as you proceed, and there are plenty to unlock along the way. The actual gameplay is solid. You have a very simple combat style, which one button for melee, a button for ranged, block, dodge (if you have the chakra), awakenings (second forms/power ups) for most of the character, and every character has a ninjutsu and ultimate jutsu to choose from. The characters play very differently. I have found my favorites already, but it's fun to go and play all of the characters as I unlock them to see what they do. Although, if you get sick of playing against bots, you will need some actual friends. Overall, the game is great but it could have been a much better port. 7/10

Now, Saints Row IV is fully off the walls crazy, but you know that from watching the trailer. What you don't know is all the crazy referential jokes included in that as well. Saints Row IV Is a complete and total ride, and it was so much fun from start to finish. Let me break this down for you:
Story: 9/10
As a sci fi nerd, I enjoyed the hell out of the story. Yes, it is a bit barebones, just you become president, aliens attack and abduct you and your crew, then blow up the earth, and you want revenge. Simple right? Well, sort of. The main villian Zinyak really makes you hate him by the final confrontation. He takes over the radio, changes things in the simulation, and belittles you to the very end. Just another one of those villians you love to hate. All the main characters in your crew are back from the last one and beyond, and all have much to say. There are these loyalty missions where you usually do unfinished buisness from their personal nightmare while giving them superpowers as well. Every single one was a lot of fun, and I don't regret any of them. Overall, the story is crazy and fun as well as quite good, but not perfect, but worth every second I put into it.

Graphics/Sound: Graphics 7/10 Sound 10/10
Normally I wouldn't split these, but it really needed to be done in this case. The graphics are alright. Beyond the amazing sci fi night scenery of Steelport, the graphics aren't too much to write home about. The sound however is what kills it. Although, to be more specific, the music. The radio is much better in this game. AI woul refuse to listen to anything but the 80s channel, and beat dudes up to saftey dance, and it was so good! Plus theres killing people in a mech suit to "You've Got The Touch", and so much more. The music is great!

Overall: 9/10

Just a warning going into this release, I was a pretty big fan of Transformers going into this game. Although, if this had a completely different subject to it I don't think it would be any less of a great narrative. As compared to War of Cybertron, where you have a linear narrative of all autobots, then all deceptacons where you get to play as your favorite 'con (between the 3 given) done in a team of 3 in a basic third person shooter style seen in many other games before it. The game was alright. Then this game was revealed, and they changed everything. It's still a linear first person shooter yeah, but they changed up the way they did the narrative. Instead of picking a 'con, you're given the one for the job, with each having a unique ability set to go well with the mission you use them in. An assault on a base? Here's Megatron with a cannon. A mission where you're suggested to take a sneaky approach, here's Cliff Jumper with a stealth ability. Sniping? Here's Jazz with a grapple and sniper rifle; and it just goes on from there. This allows for a much more diverse level setup than War did and it shows. You go from the surface of Cybertron, to deep underground, to out in deep space all in the span of a 8-10 hour campaign, and that's if you don't seek out collectibles for 100% completion. I do want to make mention of the music. I really didn't think a game like this would be able to pull off good cinematic music the way it does, but it surprised me in that department. There's also multiplayer, but that really wasn't all that great. I played 1-2 hours of the multiplayer, and it's nothing special. You got your horde mode, you got your team deathmatch and a few other versus modes, but it'd be like almost any other third person shooter with a tacked on multiplayer, and really I'm going to take some points off of my score for that. I feel they could have added a bit more to the single player and polished it just a bit more if they didn't include the multiplayer. Overall I would say the game is an 8/10. If you like a good linear narrative and enjoy giant killer robots, than this is worth a look.

Its now been about a week since I've beaten Bioshock Infinite, and I'm still having issues trying to figure out where I stand on it. Don't get me wrong, the story is amazing, and the combat I had a lot of fun with (keeping the two weapon max system in mind), but is it really as perfect as every reviewer would have you believe? Well, kinda. Its not perfect by any stretch of the means. Granted, its really good, but is it 10/10 good. The answer is no. The story deserves it, without a doubt, but the game lets you down with its very linear progression, the two weapon system, and a few of the bosses and heavy hitters are such a pain you could empty the ammo of everything you have, and your salts, and all the weapons you find around you. At that point, it makes the combat not even feel satisfying, especially when after 3 deaths the game toys with you by saying you can lower the difficulty. I truly hate it when games baby you like that. If I wanted to play on a lower difficulty, I would have played on a lower difficulty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥! The normal combat is fun and exciting though. With the vigors and skyrails, you have tons of combinations at your fingertips to how to approach your targets. For those who were fans of the extra mechanics of the first two Bioshock games might find Infinite disappointing. After having some time to think about it, I actually miss hacking machines to cause discounts and free money. Now its just, posses things and get some free money. It feels, lacking. Speaking of lacking, along with the two weapon system, we also don't have the extra ammo types from the last two. I never used them much, but its nice to have the option. Some of the enemies take too many shots to kill, so you get to run around looking for more ammo mid fight, which isn't a lot of fun in my opinion. Lastly, there's the story and Elizabeth. Elizabeth actually makes combat more interesting. She can throw you what you need in a fight, and also seems to always find some money the second you're done buying what you need. The best part about her though, is the game isn't an escort mission, and Elizabeth can't die! As for the story, its very engaging, as long as you're paying attention to your surroundings and listening to audio logs (which also make a return) to find out more about this crazy world in the sky. Plus, the story gives you reason to replay the game. If you have heard anything about the ending, or have seen it, you know where I'm going with this. The ending is so much plot wrapped into such a small timeframe, it made my mouth drop when the bigger elements were revealed. It made me want to replay the game just to find out what I missed throughout the game. Overall, the game is incredible. Its not the 10/10 its being given, but it definitely deserves a low 9 or high 8. It is by far a contender for game of the year, and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a good story from the game, as long as they don't mind the combat.

I got this game from the last Humble Bundle for Android, and decided to give it a shot. Boy am I glad I did. The new game from the mind of VVVVVV creator Terry Cavanaugh, this game finds you trying to survive what is essentially vectors. That, while the map keeps changing and playing tricks on you. It starts skewing, rotating, switching rotation, pulsing, and changing color, all while banging techno plays in the background. You might be preparing for the next vector coming one way, but woops! The opening may have been just a hair to the left, and now you get to start over, some times mere milliseconds before reaching the next level. The game is very tough though. I kept replaying it, and still am, because I can't let this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game beat me! (that was on the lowest difficulty, of 3. Plus even harder "hyper" stages await you if you beat those). Also, word of caution... if you have any sort of epileptic seizure issue, or issues with motion sickness, this game might cause you some issues. I play on a very big monitor, and usually don't, and I was actually getting dizzy after about 20 minutes of play, so be careful. Besides that, the game is quite a lot of fun if you enjoy a challenge and can handle some bangin techno. Enjoy! :)
