PAPERHEAD could be amazing — it just needs refinement. I really like this game and think it has huge potential, but there are a few critical issues I hope get worked out before the full release.

Movement:
I love fast-paced, acrobatic shooters like ULTRAKILL, DUSK, and DOOM Eternal, but the movement here feels a bit sloppy. Gravity doesn’t quite behave naturally, and trying to fit through small spaces like doors can be frustrating due to the lack of precise control.

Performance:
For a game with such a simple, charming cardboard aesthetic, performance is surprisingly inconsistent. Even on an RTX 4070 SUPER, I experienced noticeable frame drops during combat—sometimes freezing for a moment before snapping back, leaving my character disoriented.

Lighting:
In the level where you carry a candle until the power is restored, the stage is overly dark. On top of that, the candle isn’t properly fixed to your hand, so it can snag on objects. Combined with the slippery movement, this often forces you to stop and pick it up again, which feels more frustrating than fun.

Direction:
I don’t expect constant hand-holding, but there are several points where it’s unclear where to go. This disrupts the pacing and takes away from the high-speed flow the game is aiming for.

Overall:
PAPERHEAD has the foundation to be something great. The style is unique, the concept is strong, and it’s already a lot of fun—but it needs more polish in key areas. If the developers can refine the movement, performance, lighting, and level direction, this could easily stand alongside other modern retro shooters as a must-play.
