Like the campaign, this mode is very unforgiving to new players. If you want to WIN, you need to memorize meta team matchups, know exact damage values, take massive risks, and pray for the RNG to favor you.

If you want to have FUN, make the sillies, most nonsensical, borderline stupid team imaginable. The most fun I've had in this mode was running four mark characters, naming myself "who farted?" and spamming Mark For Death/Sniper's Mark/ Target Whistle on one specific character. Of course I didn't win, but damn was it funny.

But long story short, if your fun comes from competition and winning games, you need to invest the time to learn the intricacies of the mode. If you just want to ♥♥♥♥ around, you'll find twice as much fun in this DLC than you could get in the base game. Highly recommended.
