Their courage was noted. Their survival was not.

At the start of the Trial, a dull Totem is ignited into a Hex Totem.

While this Hex Totem is active:

Each time a Survivor performs an altruistic action (unhooking, healing another Survivor, taking a Protection Hit), they become Cursed for 20/25/30 seconds.

Cursed Survivors suffer from the Oblivious and Broken status effects.

When a Cursed Survivor is put into the Dying State, all other Survivors briefly scream, revealing their locations for 2 seconds.

Only one Survivor can be Cursed at a time.

If the Hex Totem is cleansed, all effects immediately end.
