With some minor hiccups near the end, this game was plain fun all the way through. Although couple's themed, highly recommend for anyone who has a duo to play with.

Imperator: Rome is still a very rough game, there's a lot of flavour lacking and in some cases, like with it's name-sake, too much flavour. If you are trying out this game, I would absolutely not recommend starting as Rome - thanks to it's flavour & events, a lot of the mechanics you manage as other nations barely apply to Rome and can easily be ignored.

There-in lies the problem with Imperator: Rome. The mechanics are quite fun & personally I had a lot of fun managing to go from some minor nation to a rather large one and managing my internal affairs as I had expanded my empire too quickly. But then you do it a second time, a third, a fourth, almost all nations really feel the same to play & after you get the unique starts and challenges out of the way, it doesn't feel much different from each other whether you're in the British Isles, the Horn of Africa or Sri Lanka. A few select nations have flavour, fewer still have a lot of flavour. Nations don't feel different from each other and although there are some interesting differences between the three(four) governments of tribal(Settled/Migratory), republics & monarchies in the end they all play roughly similar.
There are characters that you influence and control, but you play as the country not the character - this is not CK2 - these characters don't do much, they add a face to your EU4 event, your rebel leader but there's not enough there to make them memorable. They're stats, numbers for you to manage, the statemanship mechanic has made them more interesting, a character with a stat of 11 starts out at 0 and slowly trains their statesmanship, giving them a % of the stat(So two characters both have a statesmanship of 55%, Mr. 11 thus has a stat of 6, whilst Mr. 6 has a stat of 3 then) It doesn't make it particularly more interesting to manage them. I wish there were unimportant jobs so you could train up people with low statesmanship & prepare them for the big jobs, just like how it went in the real world but there's not, so you pop in the highest number into the vacant job, hope he doesn't die before reaching said number & then forget about him.

That doesn't mean I wouldn't still recommend, when this game first launched I put 40 hours into it & then didn't touch it for four months, the same happened with 1.2 & now 1.3 has got me playing again, doing my best to keep the game fun for myself.

Imperator: Rome is still rough around the edges, but there's a lot of fun to be had & made. I would absolutely recommend buying the game for right now, even if you don't think about the updates that might come in the future(And I really would never recommend buying a game for hypothetical features that might come later)

Rly rly good combat is the main selling point here, as of writing this review the actual content on offer is a bit stale with only four maps for Frontline and no ranked mode rn(It's coming later, apparently)

Despite this I'd still 100% recommend Mordhau, the combat is just so much pure fun that even if I was fighting in the same maps 24/7, it keeps being fun and different.

Amazing amounts of customization and a really good weapon variety, you can really shape the character you want and make them look unique.

partner attacked elves who we had to hand in a quest to so i had to go in alone to hand in the quest which kept getting interupted bcus my dumbass partner kept walking into the camp of elves who hated her guts 10/10 would do again
