My story with this game is a bit of an odd one. I had received it from a friend clear back in 2020. I showed some interest in it, but I never really played it, since I was busier with other things at the time. That changed about late 2021 or so. I was admittedly bored, and I thought, "Hey, this has been in my library, why not try it out with the gang once and for all?" From then on, I was hooked. It is a breath of fresh air in an industry where the next game is a basic reskin of the last or the buggiest mess of the decade. I feel the game is unique in the aspect of how it handles itself. I feel the ideas room of Ghost Ships Games (the devs) was something to the effect of, "Hey, so I had this weird dream of dwarves in space, and they fight these giant bugs?" And they ran with it. It's hilarious to think about, but either way, I'm glad this is something that is a concept.

BASICS:
This is a game about the company you, the player, works for, Deep Rock Galactic. In DRG, there is a team that conducts missions on a planet that the company currently oversees: Hoxxes IV. The planet is rife with dangers, however, be it the native wildlife in the forms of (mostly) bugs, the various environments, or even the impending shadow of a rival company and its various gadgets. Luckily, you are given options to combat these situations. One of them is the choice of class. There's only 4: Gunner, Scout, Engineer, and Driller. Each class come with its own Primary and Secondary weapons, a Traversal Tool, and a Specialty Tool, not to mention throwables. Gunner is fun in that you only really worry about shooting things, with some of the strongest weapons available, in addition to a portable shield for protection and a zipline gun for movement. Engineer allows you to have a deployable sentry gun and some powerful weapons to help keep you and allies alive. You also get a gun that makes land. Neat. Driller is all about the elemental damage, and the class is phenomenal at crowd control. Driller also gets C4 and, of course, the Drills. Scout, while the weaker one combat-wise, is incredible with the Grapple Hook and Flare Gun. So, what are you meant to do with these four classes? Well, your job is simple: enter the caves of Hoxxes IV, shoot anything angry at you, mine materials and other goodies from these caves, and complete the missions and tasks given to you by the higher-ups.

PROS:
-Massive amounts of weaponry and customization with said weaponry
-Procedurally-generated caves make each mission feel unique
-Plenty of cosmetics and unlockables to spend in-game credits and materials on
-A fairly large amount of content to be had from the various assignments the game gives you
-The music is phenomenal.
-For those who care, there is modding support for the game as well, and with some of it being client-side only, you do have some freedom in how you want the game to look, sound, and, in some cases, perform.

CONS:
-There is a lack of story
-Some upgrades to the weapons and even cosmetics are a bit of a chore to obtain, giving a sense of, lack of wealth? This was an issue I had starting out
-After you spend a lot of time in the game, you may acquire a surplus of wealth and materials due to having had everything you would want/need
-One of the major parts of the game, perks, can feel a bit underwhelming, overwhelming, or unnecessary. Additionally, like the credits and materials you can get, perk points are able to be stockpiled.

OVERALL:
In spite of the game's shortcomings, especially starting out, it is a treat every time I boot it up. I have a blast playing it, and I would hope this review would inspire some purchases, because these developers are one of the best out there. Ghost Ship Games has done a fantastic job, in my opinion, and I hope you would join myself and others in Deep Rock Galactic. ROCK AND STONE!
