Review for the campaign and the Steam version in 2026. I might come back later to review multiplayer.

A) The Steam version - it is ruined by EA. It took me probably 1h30 over multiple days to finally find a way to boot the game. I had to do a few things that people suggested in the Steam community, discussions or guides. You have to use EA's launcher + a website launcher (why? IDK but it's dumb). Anyway...

B) Campaign review :

Overall, Battlefield 3's campaign is pretty good, but it's not great either. I think it was probably seen as much better back when it came out, but in 2026, it is quite lacking. The gameplay and gunplay is overall good, but there are multiple issues.

1- I often couldn't see where the enemies were because of the lighting (I don't care whether it's realistic or not). That was quite annoying and was ruining my experience sometimes.
2- Most of the time, while playing on Normal, the game was either too easy or bull's hit. I don't know how many QTEs I failed lol. QTEs are not a good mechanic in general and certainly not in this game. Some of the other bull's hit a surprising amount of inescapable deaths that the game throws at you seemingly randomly. When that happens, you sometimes have to redo a pretty long section.
3- Not really an issue, but I expected to be able to destroy way more stuff. You can destroy some of the stuff in the environment, but it's relatively limited. My expectations were too high I'm guessing. We'll seeif it's better when playing online.

Otherwise, some of the missions are interesting because you get to use a tank or a military plane (AC-130 or some similar stuff). The graphics are good for the time. The story is good, but ends abruptly.

If i had to compare to other shooters, this is definitely not one of my favorite shooters, but it's not amongst the worst either. It's similar to other good campaigns from that era (Call of Duty games for example - MW 2 from 2009 is pretty similar). So, BF3's campaign is worse than most Halo campaigns, Dead Space games, F.E.A.R., DOOM, most Resident Evil campaigns... There are the examples coming to mind.

Couldn't make it run on my 2014 laptop. Yes it's a cheap laptop, but I was able to run many games, including the Talos Principle, Dead Space 2 and Thronebreaker (Witcher game). I feel like I should be able to make Metro 2033 run as well. Maybe I'll play the remake first and then come back and try the original version on a better machine.

Very good point and click game! The main issue I have with this chapter is that 1 puzzle requires you to remember a hint that is only given once and that you may not even notice. If you don't notice it, you have no way of knowing that trial and error is an option for that puzzle because it could take 5 min or something.

Platformer with potential. All they gotta do is make the controls less sensitive and we got a pretty good game here. Hope the actual game is better than this prototype!

A surprisingly fun and well-made game. Simple, but pretty good!

Most of the levels are easy or very easy, but some are actually hard.

I can't launch the game because of EA's Anti-Cheat software. Apparently it has to do with reWASD (remapper), but even when exiting the program, I can't launch the game.

Will come back and update my review if something changes.

3 of the 5 games are decent, but I don't really see myself playing those games either.

[EDIT after finishing the game : the last 2-3 hours of the game are much better because you actually get to use good and fun to use weapons. That part is relatively good. I'm not sure whether to recommend the game or not anymore...].

Game that is similar to Max Payne : F.E.A.R.

After playing for 4 hours, I've completed about 50% of the game.

The game is OK even for 2026, but I'm not sure it's good enough for me to recommend it.

Positives
- Story
- Music and atmosphere
- *Voice acting especially
- Minor puzzles are okay
- Chapter 3 and some parts of chapter 2 are much better because you have access to better weapons

Mixed
- Gunplay is decent, but most guns are hard to use and you are very limited when it comes to strategy because of the enemies' AI and the environment. Other than the slow-mo side jumps you can do, which also often don't help you much, the main strategy is : use the best weapon you currently have ammo for and save scum (save before combat occurs and load if it didn't go your way). The reason for this is that the enemies can see behind them and a little bit through walls. They also often shoot so quickly that you don't have enough time to kill them before they shoot you - even sometimes when using the slow-mo - and you run out of painkillers (which heal you) very quickly if you don't save scum :/

Basically, the game is poorly designed, unfortunately. Because of that, I have to constantly save and load. The game kinda feels like bull's hit sometimes. You can still often manage to kill enemies quickly, by aiming for the head for example, but your weapons are inaccurate and unreliable. It's just not that enjoyable because of all these issues.

I'm not saying the game is not fun at all. I still like it, but most of the shooters I've played are better than Max Payne.

Wasted 20 minutes of my life. Lots of text and negativity. Not fun.

Very short (20 minutes) puzzle game with a focus on the story. There's a few rooms to solve. Fun game overall.
