Bosses will back-step 23 times in a row, firing off retreating blows every time they do it. If you don't try to close with them, they'll start spamming projectiles at you instead. Fights are basically just hoping for the stars to align well enough that you can throw out your attack skills and rush down the enemy. Assuming the foe doesn't actually have a weak spot (typically, the head) that you're supposed to jump slash repeatedly. You know, while they're throwing out their combos and back stepping the whole time. Assembling a build that gets you into the fast category for dodges should be a priority for your sanity. It has way more i-frames, and just plain covers more ground than the normal roll. Unfortunately, staying there will result in you ignoring 90%+ of all weapons in the game.

Something went awry with this game. I'm guessing they had one freak testing fights in the office, and he generally cleared everything using whatever degenerate build he was using in a single attempt. Then, they balanced everything around that.

There does seem to be a few faint threads tying this game back to Code Vein 1 as well, but sussing them out has been a chore. Unfortunately, completing the game has revealed that any threads back to CV1 are just that. Threads. There's no real connecting material, no reference back to the Queen, to the crisis in the Gaol of the Mists, or the horrors that Revenants were created to fight in the first place.

Save your money. Wait for a balance patch, or something.

There were some real rough edges. Some collision that wasn't there that probably should have been, and some extra collision that seemed strange. I even found a secret door that, when revealed, didn't actually *do* anything. One of the companions you pick up felt kind of like an afterthought as well, where there wasn't much equipment for him and his skills seemed a bit lackluster in general.

However, the story for this game is pretty dang charming. It also does a good job of keeping everything moving along. Brevity is definitely one of this game's strong points. The skills you get don't have a ton of depth to them, but there are some fairly easy to setup interactions that do a good job of paying off. If it were a longer game, it would probably become a real problem. In that the interactions are really good, and they can kind of cause combat to become rote because of it. But new enemies keep showing up with different weaknesses, and require you to at least cycle through your stronger strategies.

Also, don't sleep on buffs/debuffs in this game. They get crazy if allowed to run unchecked.

This game was never going to live up to the game that so many people had built up in their minds. Maybe for a few moments, it briefly touched on something that I was really hoping for from it.

That being said, what we got was certainly something. It feels like the story has two distinct segments, and they could use some additional connective tissue to link them together. Like we got acts 1 and 3 of a play, but act 2 was omitted.

I'm three play throughs in. It's a good game. It can really put the screws to you, if you tell it to as well.

This game is definitely a bit more "cute" than I normally prefer. If you want kind of a streamlined souls-like experience, the gameplay is pretty good in that regard. "Advanced" seems to be the more "normal" difficulty. At the very least, it isn't crazy unbalanced like games with higher difficulty choices can wind up.

This game is so weird. It's like if space aliens tried to iterate on MMORPGs. Who would look at WoW or FFXIV and think, "Yeah, this needs a double/triple/quad jump" or "These games need *MORE* currencies!" I get that it's a game that is also targeting phones as a platform, but way that the game will cut away to white text on a black screen for narration starts to border on the avant-garde.

If someone told me they made design decisions by pulling concepts out of a hat, I'd be inclined to believe that person. This game isn't obviously bad. The badness slowly unfolds over time, like a blossoming flower of sauceless combat and wanton monetization. No battle ever seems to be close while doing the main quest. You either stomp things into the dirt, or they stomp you.

There are so many systems and features, you'll struggle to find what you want consistently. There's a battle pass. There's a string of challenges to complete for new players. There's a hunt log. The cosmetic shop. Your equipment. Your collected fashion/glam/transmog items. Your talent tree. Your skills. "World skills", that you have to unlock by interacting with specific objects in the overworld that allow you to explore it further/easier. You also have to equip these world skills on their own bespoke screen. Your mounts. The banners for all the current offers. The current event.

There is definitely at least $15 worth of game here. Legs come as a unit, but arms are individual parts. Meaning your mech's left and right arms can be different from each other. Some equipment definitely seems to stand out above others. The "derby" legs kind of skate around, and their mobility will outstrip most other leg options.

It's good. It's a bit like the older Armored Core games, and I really liked those. The story is really threadbare, but 10-player co-op is something that AC never had. It's a trade-off I'm willing to make.

I have some nitpicky feelings about this game. I kind of wish they would have allowed four characters into your battle formation, or at least came up with some fights that split the team into pairs for the portion of the game where you have four characters. You spend too much time with one of your characters benched, despite lining up for fights with the rest of your crew in cutscenes.

Might is maybe a bit too good as a stat at the beginning of the game. When you start getting higher quality weapons, it does taper off. But that did encourage me to play extremely dangerously, where I dumped everything into might and just powered through on dodges and parries. At least fights went pretty fast.

Other than that, it's been really enjoyable.

This game is *very* short. The replay on it is kind of low, despite being a "anomaly spotting" game. Because it has a definitive end, the type of discrepancies that can be found is fairly constrained, and a replay will kind of expose the magic at work making the game's story work.

It's a solid game though, despite that. The story is kind of cool too. If you're going to buy it, keep in mind you won't be able to stretch more than a couple of hours out of it.
