I wanted to enjoy this game, but the night defense part is currently a big pain in the ass if you play solo (in the standard mode) :
- The enemies scale too quickly each night, so you can't take your time to understand and create your trap maze efficently, and to explore the island. The night enemies's level should have been bound to your own level. You have to rush for new equipment because of that, which it creates a disparity between taking the time to explore/survive and farm like crazy fast to save your own ass.
- You can pay with a specific ressource to skip the night defense, but this same ressource drop mainly from the night defense's enemies. Because of that, it's a pain in the ass to skip easily the defense.
- You need a lot of ressources to create your defenses, which the majority will be blown away in one night. You can have a perk that restore trap durability in 2 days, but that's not the case for the structures. It would be doable without this stupid explosifs monsters who one shot you if you're not aware of them and do huge damage to your structures, a double pain in the ass. Worse monster of the game.

I'm aware that you have a mode without the night defense, but that's one of the selling point of the game, which is why I can't suggest it to people.

I'm aware too that I could just remove all my inventory each night, teleport far away from the base to get killed and start a new day like nothing happens, but that's just an easy way out to ignore the problems linked to the game.

A good tactical/rpg with management mechanics.

You have a number of actions to do before the main mission each time, so you may not like it if you like to farm as much as possible.

Update :
After finishing the game in the default difficulty, I can say that I globally enjoyed the game. My main issue is that you don't have enough time to have fun with all the management mechanics. You have like 6 actions to do before each main mission, and that's far too short.

I hope you'll be able to change that as a new game option, because currently it's counterintuitive. The mechanics to create new characters and build them up are really fun to use if you like to try to min-maxing, but like I said, you don't have enough time to use it. You'll mainly use your precious time to improve your current units and restore their stamina to survive instead of creating new units.

I wished we had postgame content too (to mess around without any restriction), with maybe with the objective to pay your whole debt?

I really want to love this game, but it's missing so much quality of life that it's very frustrating.

Each room of the map are usually huge (and gorgeous), but you move too slow by default, so it takes a lot of time to move around each room. Add to that, you're going to do a lot of backtracking and you have very few teleporters to help you with that. The game doesn't respect your time on that by A LOT.

You don't have any indication if you've completely explored a biome of the map, so good luck completing it if you like to 100% your metroidvania games. At the bare minimum, a % of what you've found on each biome would have been neat.

The quests don't give any real indication of where you can find their objective. It would have really helped if they pointed on the map where you're supposed to go, especially knowing that some secondary quests are mandatory.

Well, that's my main problems about it. Otherwise, I enjoyed the christmas story, the art of the game is gorgeous and the world setting is nice.
