This game is good. Like, UNREASONABLY good. The only bad thing I can think to say about it is that I know it won't last forever, which is upsetting to think about. But in the meantime, I'm having a blast playing it. Easily contending for my game of the year. Inscryption feels like it was tailor made for me, and I can't gush about it enough.

After playing this game a solid amount on both Switch and PC, I can say this has easily been one of my favorite online multiplayer experiences I've ever had. There's nothing else quite like it, and I've had a ton of fun playing both as the Killer and as a Survivor (though finding a match as a Survivor still takes far too long, even with crossplay enabled). If the theme isn't offputting to you, I think this game is a really unique multiplayer experience at a great price.

Also would like to thank the devs personally for having no voice chat in this game, it makes the experience way more focused and less obnoxious when you get matched with someone who might be verbally toxic or just an awful person to engage with.

An incredibly fun and diverse horror experience with terrific presentation and an awesome soundtrack. My only complaints are that the game does feel painfully out of your control at times and I feel moreso like the game is happening to me rather than playing it with a great deal of strategy, but that could just come down to playing the game longer to get a better foothold. Besides that and some broken english here and there, the game really does feel like a unique experience I can't get anywhere else, and I love it!

Takeshi's Castle: The Game! I love Fall Guys!

I'm not convinced it loves me back, though.

Like BioShock, but more Metroid-y and experimental with its systems and level of roleplaying. Love it already, can't wait to play more.

It's awesome how much of a board/card game experience I get out of this. The combat portions are simple but well-done and offer a lot of extra wrinkles depending on the types of encounters you get into. What a lovely experience!

It's like having 20 little angels and devils on your shoulders, whispering to you over almost every decision you have to make, and it's brilliant. Some of the best, detail-oriented role-playing you could ask for.

An incredibly solid single sitting game that will subvert your expectations and keep your insides buzzing until the very end from the powerful tone and storytelling on display. An excellent game for any time of the year, but it's perfect for Halloween.

I downloaded and played through this game off Steam's radar with the intent of hiding me playing what I thought would be a standard anime visual novel with MAYBE a twist or two that I didn't expect.

What I got was one of the best games I've played this year, hands down. If you can stomach dark subject matter and a game that plays you as much as you play it, you can't miss this one. Put aside whatever notions you may have about its aesthetic or its gameplay, because this game defies its packaging.

It's self-parodying, it's intelligently written, and it's incredibly unsettling in all the right ways.

Steam wouldn't even let me write a review for this game unless I had at least 5 minutes played on my account. I've already played and beaten the game, but I redownloaded it on Steam and ran the game long enough JUST to write this review.

I'm serious, PLAY IT.

LISA: The Painful RPG is probably the most rewarding and unique game I've played this year. What drew me into purchasing it was the game's apparent dark humor content and its likeness to Earthbound, one of my favorite RPG's of all time. It seemed like a nice distraction, and at $7.50 for the special edition, I certainly didn't have much to lose.

What I wasn't counting on was this game stealing my heart unconditionally. Behind the absurdist front LISA puts on at first glance, there's a level of depth to this game both mechanically and narratively that I frankly didn't expect. The decisions that have to be made throughout the course of the game have such a strong weight to them. It puts you through hell, and forces you to make game-altering decisions that will leave you emotionally torn to pieces. I felt the weight of my decisions like a pit in my gut, which is something very few games successfully pull off without offering more than just the illusion of choice.

There's such a strong moral conflict between the game's protagonist and antagonist(s) that goes far beyond the mere struggle of good against evil. There are things at stake here, things to lose. I won't go into detail about what these things are for spoilers sake, but trust me when I say you're going to find yourself struggling to make a choice in the face of the brutal adversities LISA brings to the table.

On a more pleasing note, the game's dialogue and comedic value is top notch, and had me in tears on quite a few occasions. The motley band of fighters, monsters, and plain weirdos you run into throughout your journey always have something to say that's worth listening to (you'll be laughing at most of it). On top of the 30 recruitable allies you can obtain (each with a large variety of skills to use in combat), there's an innumerable number of characters you'll cross paths with that will either want to pick a fight with you, or just ramble to you about their problems. I guarantee you'll have a hard time forgetting each moment, because there are just so many worth remembering. You'll definitely have a large handful of favorites by the end of it.

LISA's soundtrack also delivers, with enough trippy, dungeon-like tracks to make any battle in the game feel like an eccentric nightmare (in the best of ways). From the somber, atmospheric noise that fills the dark caverns and heart-stopping flashbacks - to the gritty, yet feverishly catchy battle themes, you'll have a hard time keeping the music out of your head, even after you put it down. I highly recommend buying the OST along with the game, you won't be disappointed.
_ _ _ _ _

What's left to say about LISA? I'm trying desperately to find something negative to say about it, but I'm drawing a blank. It's quite honestly one of the craziest rides I've ever had in my gaming experience, and I can't stress enough how much larger the game is than the way it's presented. Do yourself a huge favor, and buy LISA. Buy it for you, and for all your friends. With a vague but chillingly compelling story, a colorful cast of characters, a gut-busting amount of humor, a soundtrack that oozes cool, and player-driven choices that ACTUALLY make a difference, what's not to like?

Be warned, this game will rip your heart out, but you won't want it back, because you'll be so madly in love with it all.
