I noticed this game had no reviews, and no community content, and it was in my library, so I immediately downloaded it and got to playing it.

After two months of not playing it, I can say it's a fun game. My friend said it's similar to Luftrausers, so if that's a game you're interested in, this might be of interest to you.

You can customize 4 parts of your loadout, that being:
- Spells | Magic spells leaving goblins in shells.
- Guns | Lead firing guns, dead goblins in tons.
- Brooms | Brooms that clean, some new with sheen.
- Animals | Animals of the spirit variety, with a rhinoceros in it's entirety.

I intend to play it more to unlock an AC-130 for a gun.
There's a boss, and it's always nice to be able to weave and dodge through bullets and goblins.
The only critique I have is that there isn't more than one kind of boss to vary it up.

I enjoyed it, and it's good for its price.

Okay, I played the game about two years back initially and now having play Judge Eyes (Judgment) and Lost Judgment, I can agree with the assessment that this was a downgrade in terms of combat.

In terms of story, you absolutely have to play all preceding games to really feel the impact of *that* scene. Without it, it won't hit nearly as hard. In my opinion, this game has an amazing story. I love every character within it. Shishido is especially my favorite, I love this dude. Of course, this story isn't flawless, but as I said, I think it's good.
In terms of visual, somehow it can go from visually stunning, like Yakuza 6 levels of beautiful. To god awful lighting. It's mostly good though.

In terms of soundtrack, I love it.
Deadly Struggle + Hanahaki Yume is just beautiful. The music sync video by Sidewayz is my cocomelon.
It really encapsulates a man struggling to keep his way of life alive, despite it being outdated and hurting others. Only to realize it was a fleeting dream in the end. I guess you could say it's a deadly-
Psycho's Anthem is also just lovely. Really makes you feel like you're going up against this unhinged unsavory freak called Nishitani III. I cannot get enough of his smug ass face.
Also Sayonara Silent Night is a great track too.

Back to combat, playing as Joryu (definitely not Kiryu) is serviceable. I would not choose to play unmodded Gaiden. And I will NOT play unmodded Gaiden again. It was fun prior to knowing what both of the Yagami games offered, so I'll give it that. The combat speed is way slow, the heat gain is slow, you practically need to upgrade your damage if you want to progress in the coliseum story and big team battle. And they added a juggle time limit. I do not like having my expression via combat limited.

That being said.. there is this one absolutely peak mod that is in the game.
LIKE A DRAGON GAIDEN: "AWAKENING OF THE DRAGON GOD."
This mod that was created by spurge , turns this game into S tier material for me. Holy jesus, I love this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mod. Everything about it is just... PERFECT. I easily spent hours upon hours just playing the game again because of how good it is.

me gushing overGGalactical peak arrangements:
GGalactical's tracks are amazing, I love how she made each one, especially because I was watching each one get uploaded to her channel ever since her "fragments of a memory" post. I listened to these tracks nigh daily, and still do because of just how good they are.
I have to thank her for properly introducing me to the peak that is LA MUERTE DEL GIOBIERNO in her "Face the Music" track. Oh my god, it's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ peak. The beat drop is immaculate and just goes so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hard. Literal headbanging material. I kid you not, right as I was writing and putting in the links, I ended up spending the next 2 minutes banging my head back and forth and oh my god it's so good. Please listen to it, it's so good.
And the way she remade "The Way of Life" into "the way that things were" is just phenomenal. I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ love it.
The part in "i dreamt i was a butterfly" where you hear the clapping of hands as that guitar riff sings out. It's Umazing, it's Femonemo.
I could just gush about the entire boss track she made for the Minamida Grand Prix, but I need to talk about the style tracks she made.

"Espionage With a Smile"
This arrangement of Smile Venomously makes me scream like Matikanefukukitaru whenever something happens, it makes me cry like Winning Ticket because it's so good.
The intro with the strings and the BONGOS like it's Penumbra Version A, oh my god. And then the piano comes in just thumping in. And the bass is just perfect sounding.
And then the song actually starts, and then it comes together. The slap bass is SO good. The bongos is SO good.
And then the SAXOPHONE comes in, and it just elevates it. Jazz with bongos.. It must be TANK! all over again. And then the bridge comes in, and that saxophone just WAILING out. It's peak.

"Funk Goes On and On"
The way I listened to it on repeat is just GWHGHWGHAUGHUAGHU.
Immediately out of the gate, you get that guitar riff. The bass drum just keeping my blood pumping with each thump. And then the drum fill into the proper song with the DOOT from the trumpet just makes it go WOGOGHGHHG. Especially that "Woooh!" at 22 seconds in. The little vocal fills in are just great.
But let me skip to that bridge section where it changes, and that "huehuehue" sample comes in.
It comes in as a sudden surprise, breaking up the theme from becoming monotonous. That guitar just keeping you on your toes, and the "WOOH!" coming in again signaling you're back to the main theme, or chorus if you will.

Look, the mod is fantastic. PLEASE play this mod if you don't want to play the game because of meh combat. I love it... i love you Awakening of the Dragon God. You are my favorite child.

Here's my mod list btw:
"DRAGON GOD 1.6"
(minamida models addon comes as a separate mod with Dragon God)
"Joryu's Wardrobe"
"JW - Only Bare-face"
"No Juggle Limit 2.1"
"Gaiden Restored Items 1.8"
This game with these mods turn it into PEAAAAAAAAK.
oh yeah just uh get the new game + mod from Jrhino so you can play it multiple times with your same stats. also get a cheat engine so you can you know... get all the attacks and stuff.

okay bye

The game is rather simple, and it's kind of fun, but I wouldn't recommend it.
You move around and shoot the enemy, with multiple characters that have different bullet types and stats determining their speed, dash, dash recovery, damage, rate of fire, and luck.
The items are stat boosts, but they don't massively affect the gameplay.

I was able to beat the game as Reimu the first time I entered the game, which is both good and bad.
Good in that I unlocked all the characters, but bad in the fact it leaves not much room for progression.
This game would benefit highly from adjustable difficulties, just like in the original Touhou games.

I can't recommend this game in a sincere manner due to the lacking fun. Can you have fun? Yes. A lot of it?
However if you can find this game on discount, it may be worth buying. Only if you're a Touhou fan though. A better game for getting into Touhou would be Luna Nights or Mystia's Izakaya, as they're far more fun in my opinion.

Overall score: 2/5 | Just passable, but not commendable.

Arguably the game that's had the most influence on me in recent time.
Playing Bayonetta was like discovering Devil May Cry for the first time, only that I feel like more crack was injected into Hideki Kamiya's veins to make the opening scene.

I don't have any complaints about this game. That being aid

An amazing game for all the Marisa fans out there.
To some players, it might be a shame that Marisa never got around to showing you her "Deck".
Probably because she doesn't know how to properly take care of it.
But speaking of decks.

Now if you're like me, you find it very hard to keep your "Deck" dry. *vineboom, cue sad music*
I left my "Deck" unprotected, and it was warped out of shape in no time.
I could barely even recognize my own "deck". Imagine that.

But then I discovered, Schaeffers New Zealand Style Deck Sealant.
The best way to keep care of your deck, with three easy steps.
First, wash your deck with soap and water.
Then, wait for your deck to dry.
Once your deck is clean and dry. Paint your deck with Schaeffers Deck Sealant.

I used to be too embarrased to invite people over to see my deck. *Vineboom*
But now, my deck's the talk of the town. *Vineboometh*
I often take pictures of my deck. *Displays an ASCII amogus with a "deck" on phone*
Check out that deck!
I'm going to send this to my secretary. Barbara always loves to recieve my deck pics.

After all, summertime is all about spending time on your deck.
I often have 20-30 people on my deck at once! *cue dog giving you the side-eye*
That can really wear your deck out. Causing deck splinters, and discoloration.
But with Schaeffers Deck Sealant, my Deck stays a nice golden brown color.
Who wouldn't want a golden deck. *vinbewm*

*Display live "rock eyebrow raise" reaction" in bottom corner of screen.*
I used to never let the nazrins anywhere near my deck. The deck was too dangerous for the cods to play on.
But it seems every nazrin in the neighborhood's been on my deck this summer. *bass boosted vibuom*
And they're having a good time. *the rock sideye + eyebrow raise + vainboom*

My deck is over 70 years old. But it looks brand new.
That's part of the reason why all the neighbors are so jealous of my deck.
Isn't that right John?
*Camera pans to John, tending to his garden.*
YES, YOU'VE GOT A NICE DECK, OKAY?
*Camera pans away.*
His wife is always on my deck. *vineboom* Leading him to try to learn the secrets of my perfect deck.

If you like Schaeffers Deck Sealant. Check out Schaeffers New Zealand Style Caulk.
I had a huge hole in my deck. But I fixed it by jamming some caulk in it.
"You'd be surprised how many things you can fix by jamming caulk into them"
Extra large hole in your deck?
Try Schaeffers African Style Caulk. *display text of "the guy she tells you not to worry about"*
Just go to the local home improvement store, and ask for the BIG BLACK CAULK. *Deepfried vineboom*

Schaeffers New Zealand Style Deck Sealant. Don't put it on your ping-

Metal Gear Solid 3 is a stellar game, even to this day.

I admit, I had my gripes with how the controls worked, but after I played with it a lot more, and actually read the manual like you're supposed to. I was able to easily maneuver throughout this game.
And of course, I will always play this on controller, as it just makes sense to me on there.

There are some issues, that being optimization for fights and the low quality cutscenes when you see all the various images. However, they're nothing that can't stop you from playing the game.
Overall, I've definitely got a hunger for snakes after I played this.

I wonder what the local population of snakes taste like.

"Like A Dragon: Ishin!" is truly the samurai yakuza game of all time.

Combat styles are definitely varied, using bare hands (Brawler), sword (Swordsman), gun (Gunman), and then sword + gun (Wild Dancer).
Though eventually, I really found myself only sticking to the sword styles, with Gunman and Brawler kind of just being reserved for niche heat actions or gun spam one an enemy was downed.

The combat likely as a lot more depth into it, I just haven't reached that level to get to a good spot.
Overall, it's a good game, but after this review is written, it's unlikely I'm coming back to Ishin again.

Preface
I originally posted a positive review of this game because I didn't actually put much thought into the game's combat, story, and it's care for the established bonds of the characters.

That being said, after I did think about it.
This game spits on what made Yakuza/Like a Dragon's combat good.
This game spoon feeds you the story every 5 seconds, by reminding you of what's happening in the story. And isn't willing to let you actually think for yourself.
This game spits on Majima and Saejima's relationship as brodais, and that really annoys me.

Let's talk each part.

The Review.
Combat
Pirate Yakuza's combat is an downgrade from Gaiden's combat.
First of which you'll notice. You're locked to only one bar of heat in vanilla game. You have to mod your game to get more than one bar of heat.
That wouldn't be too much of a problem if you gained heat extremely quickly, and your taunts actually generated some. But that doesn't happen. You gain heat slower than in Gaiden, and you don't even have Ex-Heat to up your combos.

What they replaced Ex-Heat with, is an "eh" reprise of what they did in Yakuza 5 with the seperate "Red Heat" gauge.
You can choose to have clones, or to summon giant animals which do an okay job at dealing with enemies.
It's just a shame that they're just okay. Pulling that out should be an exciting sudden boost in combat potential, make your heat action damage skyrocket, or just generally be effective. But that's not what this new Ex-Heat is.

And as usual with the Dragon Engine special. You don't get any cool Heat Auras for having a full gauge. If I remember correctly, at least if you activated Ex-Heat-Mode you had some kind of aura. But with Pirate Yakuza, as I said before. That isn't there.

For the Mad Dog Style, it's buggy.
A really good concept of mixing both Thug and Mad Dog together, but it was executed poorly.
There's two modes, thug mode and knife mode. If you're in thug mode, you can do any attacks relating to you not having a knife out. And with knife mode... You can do knife attacks.
But some players may notice that even if you do the mad dog counter correctly, Majima just doesn't do the parry. That's because you're in thug mode, and you can't do that because your knife isn't out.

If you want a really good analysis of Majima's Mad Dog style. Check out MaxPaynewell's video on it. He'd explain this better than I would, and he goes in depth on what makes Majima, Majima.

For Naval Combat. It's fun initially because you can do drifting. But eventually it gets repetitive, and you don't get any real reason to switch off the laser cannons as they're literally the best in the game.

Story
The next sections will be brief, as I don't want to bloat each section for the sake of it just being a large section.

The story feels very disney sitcom like. Gone are the days of a story that knew how to be serious, though occasionally being lighthearted to give some release from the tension.
Pirate Yakuza is 90% lighthearted, 10% serious.
One of the main appeals of Yakuza to me, was that it knew when it takes itself seriously. You shouldn't just bounce back immediately to being all whimsical. You need to let it rest for a moment.

Yakuza 0 really set the standard for the story I expected of the games. And this doesn't really do it for me.

Spitting Majima's relationships.
This will be the only spoilers I have in the review.

Apparently Majima was fully willing to leave his brother behind just for Noah. Even after he had gotten his memories back.
He didn't want to go back and see Kiryu, one of his closest friends, and would rather just play pretend pirate out by Hawaii. They're not considered actual pirates in game by the way.
Did they no longer mean anything to him after he got his memories back? The closest friends he had, just thrown away.

Yeah. No, that's stupid.

Closing
My end thoughts on this?
I had fun playing this game, and I'm sure you can have fun playing it too.
But it's really not the best game this series has to offer.
To me, it's a 4/10. The only reason I'd come back to this game is to do the Karaoke again.

Yakuza 5 my beloved.

You get to play as Kiryu, Saejima, Haruka, Akiyama, and Shinada.
All five were absolutely fun to play as. Each having their own side stories.

On my first playthrough alone, I clocked in 88 hours, which was far longer than the 67 hours I did on my first playthrough on Yakuza 0. And honestly, the sidestories were probably the reason I stayed so long, just as it was for 0.

Kiryu's at a debatable strongest here, as your bounding throws are completely free, Tiger Drop actually negates all damage through the ENTIRE animation, both attack and rewind. And, you can negate all damage yourself by just entering dragons rage.

Saejima's still fun to play as and is great for crowd work. However, Tsukimino has a slightly minor problem where the map is so constricted that you'll likely fight a guy right as you get out of one fight. I didn't have a problem with that though. And, you can take a picture of Miku in there.

Haruka gets to be playable in game, basing it off as rhythm as she's now an Idol. Doing various dance battles and the like. And her music soundtrack is great. It's got the songs that I'm willing to listen to outside of the game, among other ones.

Akiyama, he's still fun to play as. He's got his kicks, and you can even do air combos with him.
Some people might say that having an air combo which apparently misses half the time was a waste on Akiyama, but I never had that problem. He's either good, or he gets his ass kicked in by the Komaki duo.

Shinada my beloved. You get to have a baseball sidestory that is my personal favorite in here, rivaling that of Kiryu's Taxi Racing. His combat is my favorite in the game, going above Kiryu simply because of "My Meteor Tackle" and his own version of a bounding throw. He can get into grabs in multiple ways, and he's really good with weapons.
Continuing on that, some people say his weapons aren't very good, that being the sturdy metal pole, long pole, knife, and katana. And to that, I say that you really shouldn't soley rely on his weapons.
Shinada already is great at fighting if you know how to use his overflowing amount of I-Frames. I personally only pulled out weapons if I wanted to utilize the increased XP on enemy finish, or if I needed it as a solution to an enemy. Just, don't be stupid with them and you'll get your use from them.

The story's fun, it has a lot of twists and turns, and the final boss has a lot of health, which I find to be refreshing.

But most importantly, Baka Mitai was introduced as a karaoke track for the first time in 5. There's also Machine Gun Kiss, which is also amazing.

Anyways, Yakuza 5's a great game. I'll be moving on to playing Isshin before I play 6.
(this review was larger than I expected..)

Kiwami 2.

Switching from 0 and 1 to this was quite confusing, as I lost the style switching, which I really enjoyed.
It's got funny ragdolls, a really good storyline which I liked.
Ryuji Goda became my new favorite character by the end of it.
You can even take selfies and pictures of things, which Kiryu will probably send to Haruka later.

I modded in style switching early into the game, which made me enjoy the game a lot more, which I'd actually recommend.

There's Majima Construction, which is a nice little minigame, and Four Shine, which I am not doing after Yakuza 0's whole Mad Dog quest.

oh yeah you can also play as majima lmao.
