As someone who thoroughly enjoyed Hollow Knight and completed it at 112%, I came into Silksong with high expectations. Somehow, Team Cherry managed to not only meet those expectations but exceed them in nearly every way. I find it genuinely difficult to critique this game because there’s very little, if anything, that I don’t thoroughly enjoy.

Silksong is a challenging game, but it is never unfair. Every death feels earned, every boss fight is a test of skill and focus, and every success is deeply satisfying. Hornet’s movement is faster and more agile than the Knight’s, and that change in pace gives the game a very different rhythm. It feels more aggressive, more fluid, and more immediate. The combat is tight, the platforming is demanding, and everything is tuned to push you just enough to keep you engaged without ever becoming frustrating.

One of the more common complaints I’ve seen is about the runbacks to bosses after dying. Personally, I don’t mind them at all. In fact, I think they serve a purpose. They keep you warmed up and focused, giving you a moment to reset and recalibrate before diving back into the fight. They never felt like wasted time to me. If anything, they helped me perform better once I finally reached the boss again.

If I had to point out a weaker aspect, it would be the story. Compared to Hollow Knight, which had a haunting and mysterious narrative that slowly unraveled as you explored, Silksong feels a bit lighter in that department. It's not that the world isn't interesting or that the lore isn't there, but it didn’t pull me in quite as deeply. That said, the gameplay more than makes up for it. The moment-to-moment experience of playing Silksong is so strong that I never found myself missing the story beats all that much.

The world design is as brilliant as ever. Each area feels distinct, with its own tone, enemies, and secrets. The bosses are consistently memorable, the enemy design is clever, and the overall pacing of the game feels incredibly refined. There’s a confidence in how the game unfolds that shows just how much Team Cherry has grown as developers.

In short, Silksong is a stunning achievement. It takes everything that made Hollow Knight special and builds on it with sharper mechanics, faster movement, and a greater sense of momentum. While the story might not hit quite as hard, the gameplay is stronger in every way. If you loved Hollow Knight, there is no doubt in my mind you’ll love Silksong just as much, if not more.

Final Thoughts:
Silksong is hard, but it is fair. It is fast, fluid, and endlessly satisfying. It respects your time and your skill, and rewards persistence with some of the best gameplay the genre has to offer. I loved every second of it.

Really loving this game so far, feels like a spiritual homage to 1/BTS in all the right ways and I'm actually excited to play a game for the first time in forever

Not nearly as buggy as people are making it out to be, nothing game breaking and the bugs it does have are few and far between
Looks great but you'll need a 30 series to even hope to play it smoothly
