Stardew Valley is the gaming equivalent to lofi hiphop. The stakes are low but still grip you in a way to continue forward. The visuals are a feast for the eyes discerning pixel art enthusiast and the music perfectly matches the moods and aesthetic of the game. The music is good enough that I enjoy listening to it on it own. It's also staggering that all of this one was by one person. If you haven't played it yet I give you my strongest recommendation to pick it up.

I think the best way to sum up Dave the Diver is with one word... surprising. If you go into it blind (which I recommend highly) you will constantly be surprised how the devs push the game-play boundaries further and further as you progress. You will always have something new to focus on or play with. I would say this game is genre breaking, but I don't know that it fits into a common genre even at the beginning.

The game never takes itself too seriously and even the more difficult parts are pretty forgiving from a gameplay perspective. From the lovely art, the puzzles to the glorious cutscenes it all blends together into a really wonderful and wholesome experience. At the time of this review I had about 49 hours into it and had completed the core story, but know that there is a lot more to see and do.

This game will always be a core memory for me, and I think for my son as well. I would come home from work every night and we would spend an hour or two progressing through the game. His peals of laughter at a cutscene and his increasingly worried queries as we delved deeper into the blue hole will always be a wonderful gaming memory for us both.

I wouldn't normally have purchased a game of this genre, but decided to take the (extremely reasonably priced) plunge and try it out. It is a fantastic game that also dropped at the perfect time along side the release of the Steam Deck. If you have a Steam Deck, you should absolutely get this game. Generally the games will last 30 minutes or less, and there are a myriad of upgrades, unlocks, secrets, modifiers and more to keep you coming back and trying different strategies.

After all these years this is the CIV I still come back to. With the mod community still supporting (Caveman to Cosmos being my current choice) this game still represents the best of what a Civ game can be. In an era of mobile games, the graphics still hold up, and the depth of play still outpaces the sequels.

Rimworld is a classic timesink game in the vein of Civilization where you'll want to just play for a few more minutes. The basic "out of the box" game is good, but the mods available on the workshop really make this game into something that will stay on your harddisk for many years to come. The DLC continue to freshen up the experience and open up new gameplay opportunities.
