This is the best turn-based tactical combat game I have played. I particularly recommend getting it with War of the Chosen, as it adds a lot to the game. It also has a great cinematic feel to it that draws you in.

There is definitely a learning curve to the game that can be punishing for new players (particularly how the hardest part of the game is the early game) but it's really not that hard once you get to grips with how to play it, and it has one of the most helpful communities on steam.

The classic X-COM games will always be great still, but I feel like the devs have learnt from them and the X-COM 1 remake, to balance the game perfectly here. It also has a great collection of mods.

No. Dear God, no. You just walk around and cook. I'd be ok with that - I didn't get this game with high expectations - but the cooking mechanic is really janky and annoying. Refunding.

I wouldn't say I really liked this game much. I'm ok with walking sims, but I found this one to be boring, and like some others here, I was relieved when it ended.

I do think the premise is excellent, and there were good things to say about the story and general style of the game (certainly not run-of-the-mill), but a lot of the latter sequences just seemed like nonsense to me. Like, can anyone tell me what the monster in storage that comes after you if you make too much sound was about, or the crawling mutant baby thing in the vents, or why I was being stalked in a graveyard? Or feeding Curly his own leg while rotating his intestines on TV screens? It's all very imaginative, but it felt more random than meaningful.

Anyway, I appreciate the effort it took to make, even if I think it missed the mark in places. It was definitely not slop. I'd like to see more games inspired by this, just not this one in particular.

This is not a BAD game, but I feel like it has a lot of flaws that impacted my gameplay. It is essentially a walking simulator, where you explore the world, pick up items, solve puzzles, and experience the story through written notes and flashbacks. The area is dark, and standing in the dark reduces your sanity, which results in blurred vision etc.. You can reduce this sanity loss by using a lantern (requires fuel), or lighting candles (needs matches). Also while this is going on, you need to hide from monsters.

I don't think this combination works at all. You need to be able explore freely to be able to pick up all the sorts of items you need, solve puzzles, and learn the story. There is no map, areas are like labyrinths, and you will get lost. You will also get to a puzzle, find you are missing an item, and then go back and look again everywhere you have been already. You will run out of matches and lantern fuel, and be doing all this in near pitch black. You will often run out of patience and consult a guide.

I enjoyed the story, though the flashbacks happening at random contributed to me getting lost at times. I also enjoyed the puzzles - they made sense, no rubber chickens with a pulley in the middle. In my opinion, the best part of this game is when you are trapped in an adequately lit area and need to work out how to progress, and I'd have liked to see more of that.

Playtime is short. Getting through it, which included restarting a couple of times near the beginning and getting lost frequently, took me 8.5 hours. I can't see it having much replay value, but it could maybe be revisited in a few years.

Finally, I think the price is a bit high for a game that's relatively old now. That makes a difference to this review, because if it was half that price, I'd recommend it with its flaws. Consider getting this if it's on sale, and you like these sorts of games.

A great old game. It generally looks very good though - the only place you really see the age is in the cutscenes, but even they are not bad. Great presentation and gameplay.

A few things to note. The first is that this game is very tactical. The difficulty is set quite high at times, and if you just run in with your heroes, you will quickly die. Also, you have to fully micromanage your 4 characters in combat - unless you tell them to do something, they will just stand there and do nothing. So it can be quite slow-paced as you are constantly pausing to issue ordeers, but when things go right it is very satisfying. No multiplayer, but I don't think it would work well anyway with the way the combat works.

Finally, if you get this game, you will most likely need a fix for a common bug that makes the game unplayable otherwise. Look in the steam forum for the topic titled"Ultimate fix for the cursor problems + widescreen support" - it will be at the top or near the top.

I'm a bit late to the party, but this is a great game. My only complaint is that in the most action intense scenes, everything slows down. This seems to happen based on your hardware, so if you have a good enough machine you may not experience this, but it seems like this is not the most optimised game, and the game engine slows down the action as a means of handling it.
So having played a large part of the game at 50% speed, I don't feel like I had the intended experience, but it was fun nonetheless.

It's a Subnautica DLC being sold as a standalone game. It also contains many features requested by players in early access Subnautica, that were added into this game but not Subnautica. It's obvious that there was some parallel development of both titles, and at some point they said "All this stuff we were going to add to Subnautica - let's use it as content for another full priced game instead".

All in all I like the changes that they made, and I feel like the devs have learnt a lot about game and map design that allow the game to run more smoothly. Unfortunately the game is not really big enough to fully utilise the tools. This applies particularly to the PRAWN suit, which I literally did not use the entire game, because the only thing I needed it for was extra lead, and it turns out they forgot to add mine-able lead deposits.

If you don't own either game and are considering getting one, get Subnautica. It's far bigger and will keep you entertained a lot longer. If you own Subnautica already, it could be worth picking up this game if it is on offer to experience the pre-subnautica backstory, and the other things they could have put into Subnautica if they had been a bit less greedy.

Constantly crashes. Obviously it must work fine for a lot of people, but if you check out the steam discussion page, you'll see it's a lot of people complaining. A great pity they didn't get this game into a more stable state.

Read the other reviews for the good points of this game. There are many, but the game is currently on the verge of being ruined, particularly for new players, so I can't recommend anyone buy it now.

1. Toxic community. Was repeatedly trolled, particularly as a new player. Forums are even more toxic.
2. Very little protection against trolling. People hosting games have full rights to kick and block whoever they like, while people who don't or can't host because of performance issues aren't even allowed to block the toxic hosts to prevent themselves winding up in their lobbies again. Worst system for this I have seen in any game.

Pity.

Before I go on to trash this game, I want to make it clear, this isn't how I wanted this to end. I played Witcher 1 back in the day and loved it. Recently I bought the 3 game pack on Steam. I replayed Witcher 1, loved it again, then moved onto Witcher 2.

Oh my God.

First of all, I found that literally everything about the game had changed - controls, UI, mechanics, and graphics look dead and dull in comparison. That's not a deal breaker for me though, even though I had to spend 5 HOURS relearning combat (with the help of youtube), and rebinding controls (which you can't do in game - you need to exit game and specify the controls in the game launcher). Eventually I was able to get the controls sorted out and became good enough at combat to be recommended Hard difficulty setting in the tutorial stage of the game. Just to be safe though, I tried playing on medium difficulty.

So full of excitement and anticipation, I go to the actual game. The first 30mins is wondering around a camp, talking to characters, and flashback cutscenes. So many cutscenes - and following around characters walking slowly. I can't imagine how they could have made this section of the game more boring. Then before I even get into the proper gameplay I make a wrong turn and get insta-killed by archers. As it hadn't autosaved at any point before then, I had to do all that again, which I found even less interesting than before. I had to put the game down for a while and try again a week later.

My next attempt went slightly better. I got through the intro sequence and I thought that would be the end of it, but then I find what I thought would be the whole intro sequence was really only about 1/3 of it. Overall I spent at least 3 hours on that part of the game, which is entirely scripted and linear. Then when I finally get to the stage of the game that allows some freedom of movement, I run onto a boss that 1 hit kills me. Go to reload my save and oh look, last save was an hour ago.

I spent 10 hours trying to enjoy this game, but now I am done with it. I have never in my life played such a highly rated game that I have hated so much. It is a masterclass on how to make a sequel that is worse than the original, and now I wish I had never even tried.

I've heard Witcher 3 is much better, but this experience has put me off. Eventually I plan to find a good storyline playthough of Witcher 2 on youtube, then move onto Witcher 3, but I can't face it right now.
