Happy birthday to the coolest uncle I ever had. I wish you could see how creative, funny, and loving your kids are. It is insane to me how similar they are to you, and how much they resemble you. I swear, Atticus is going to look exactly like you when he grows up. If you were here today, I'm sure you would take part in all of our games, songs, and whatever other projects we happen to take on, and you would be there as a mentor and guide. You inspire us constantly, and if there is an afterlife, I'm sure you are looking down proud. Ethan is hilarious, open-minded, and as corny as it sounds, a very skilled gamer, which I know you would respect. Circe is also hilarious, an amazing singer, and always lights up any conversation she's a part of. Atticus is a fantastic programmer, extremely creative, and one of the most loving people I know. Happy 44th. I can't believe it's been 10 years now. We love you, we miss you, and you have entered our minds every day since you left.

Today is Sam's birthday. Happy birthday Dad, you would have been 44 today. I love you and miss you more everyday man. You're the effing coolest, and I bet you're owning faces in the afterlife.

I had a dream the night Sam died. In it, Sam was playing with his kids and I in his house in Washington. Looking at him, It was obvious he loved his kids. We played and laughed and it felt amazing to see him. It truly felt like he was there and alive. He sat criss-cross on the ground and brought his three children into his arms. I looked at him and we smiled at each other. But Sam’s smile faded. He got up. He started heading for the door. I started to cry. I asked him why he had to go. I begged him to stay. I said I needed him. I said we all needed him. He hugged me. He said I was strong and that I could do this. He kneeled down to his kids. He went to each of them, putting his hands on their shoulders and saying something reassuring to each individual kid. He hugged them one last time and headed for the door. As he left, I said “goodbye, Sam.” I woke up crying and repeated to the empty room around me, “I miss you, Sam. I miss you.”
