Hands down one of the highest value games I've ever bought. The base-game levels alone are worth the price, but add in the free dlc and the constant addition of community rooms, and this game will keep you puzzling for forever. Fine solo, but fantastic with a friend or two.

You'll probably enjoy Cocoon if you liked Limbo and Inside, the previous titles from its lead designer. Even though they're very different games, they all nail their intended atmospheres, and I found the puzzles felt quite similar. The design similarities also extend to the stark presentation of the game's narrative and tutorial. It's up to you to interpret the events as they're presented as there's not a single bit of expository text or dialog to be found.

In general, Cocoon isn't a particularly difficult puzzle game, but it still occasionally tied my brain into knots in a way that felt great. It's interesting, engaging, and beautiful (albeit in a way that's often creepy) throughout its four hour playtime. Even with this short duration, there's opportunities to hunt for achievement collectibles in hidden little side areas if you're a completionist.

Overall, it was just a fantastic experience. The visual, audio, and gameplay all blended together perfectly to produce one of my favorite games, indie or otherwise, of 2023.

With more elaborate and intricate rooms plus more complicated puzzles and a few that change based on the number of players, this DLC absolutely blew my co-op partner and I away. We both love the base game, but both this Steampunk DLC and the Wild West DLC really raised the already quite high bar. Can't wait to see more from this studio!

Sable is an open-world indie game and has all the jank you can expect from that combination: performance issues, graphical and audio bugs, menuing problems… and I still thought it was worth playing for almost 100% completion.

This game takes all the exploration I loved from Breath of the Wild and sets it in a quietly mysterious world full of stark and generally beautiful visuals, just without any combat and significantly reduced puzzles. But I had to install a DirectX-over-Vulkan mod and relaunch the game every hour or two in order to reduce the frame stutter which seemed to accumulate over time.

Still loved the journey.

A competitive "shooter" like no other, the lock-on nature of its aim meant Knockout City was closer to a fighting game than anything. It rewarded positioning and timing more than precise control of a mouse, and because of this, worked just as well on controller, so much so that many high level players preferred to use one, even on PC.

The world was bright and beautiful, the character designs and cosmetics were varied but invariable delightful, and the music was energetic and engaging, coming from many different in-universe bands, each with a unique sound.

The various game modes offered sometimes slight and sometimes dramatic departures from their core dodgebrawl mechanics, like basketbrawl (which involved picking up knocked-out players and throwing them through giant floating hoops), ball-up brawl (no balls spawn, but instead you must use balled-up teammates to fight your battles), and superpowers (everyone randomly gets one of seven different powers each time they spawn).

But all that fails to capture the real magic of the game: it just felt good to play. Whether you got in the grove of clutch passes to a teammate in need of ammunition, doing a 180 catch on a surprise attack from behind, nabbing the ball from a player you just tackled, even just jumping and spinning around the hideout, it was always fluid and responsive in the way that it needed to be.

As I'm writing this, the servers will be shutting down in just around 3 hours, but the private server version will live on from the game's website. Maybe Velan will come back to this lovely world again, or maybe not. Regardless, it was a blast while it lasted, but it had to end sometime because…

That's Knockout City, baby.

I went into this having read "mixed" reviews, both from the time it was originally released in 1998 and from other Steam users, but also with a fair amount of point-and-click adventure/puzzle game experience under my belt and a great appreciation for the humor of Douglas Adams. Regardless, there's just not enough here to even begin to enjoy.

Pretty much right out of the gate, the puzzles are beyond nonsense, and this doesn't let up through almost the entire game. The humor is somewhere between sparse and nonexistent; even some jokes that might ordinarily fall just a bit flat are run so far into the ground that they lose any charm they may have had. The only parts of the game even potentially worth interacting with, the robotic crew of the ship, are spread far across the tedious to navigate ship and plagued by input-parsing limitations.

Even for die-hard fans of Adams' work, I can't recommend this mess.

The biggest and most action-packed installment of the Frog Detective gaming universe, this final chapter ties the whole experience together. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll do sick tricks on your scooter.

While the first two games were fine (I think the second had a few more pain points than the first, but they were mostly equal), The Room Three both expands and improves on the established puzzle box/escape room gameplay formula in worthwhile ways. Offering more diverse interactions and some interesting secrets for those who want to go above and beyond, this installment of the series really shined.

A simple story told simply, with a delightful narrator, cute characters, a lovely world, and solid (though generally not particularly challenging) puzzles.
