Okay so, right to it.

Poppy 5 comes in as the latest installment in the series, and while it is shorter than Chapter 4, it is significantly more polished. I ran into absolutely zero bugs during my playthrough. Despite this however, its not the worst chapter in the series, yet not the greatest either. The story for the most part seems to be filler, as most of the new discoveries you make aren't relevant to the main story. Not to say it isn't interesting, but I spent quite a long time just trying to power through the puzzles trying to figure out what comes next in the story. I 100% enjoyed my time with it as the puzzles were good, the exploration factor is always still on point, and a few other surprises kept me going. My entire review onward is essentially filled with spoilers so please be advised and turn away if you want to refrain from spoilers.

Like I said, I enjoyed my time with Poppy 5 but there's still quite a few things that bug me. Let's start with the new cast of characters.
I like them for the most part, though my favorite new entry was definitely Lily and her dollhouse section. Or at least... visually. The two new allies are also okay, I dont have much of an opinion on them. The games story could definitely work without them, but they've proven to be interesting enough to keep around. The Insideout thingies are probably my least favorite thing here. They essentially just feel like a copy-paste of the little smiling critters with a bit more gore and unsettling designs, which (dont get me wrong) are really good, especially in a mascot horror game trying to attract a more mature audience (this fanbase is filled with children smh).

But back to Lily, specifically her gameplay section. The final chase section of Lily's dollhouse was just completely unfair to any first time players. Almost none of the quick-time events give you ample time to find the next thing to do while being chased. During the entire section I only ever had about a few seconds for each section and it wasn't quite obvious what I had to do next. For instance, at the very beginning of it, I follow Kissy thinking that's what I have to do. But alas, as I follow her, Lily intercepts me immediately. A few tries later, and I realize that wasn't what I was supposed to do. The whole section is like this and it just really frustrated me.

Alright, Prototypes design have been revealed and I am not so convinced. He looks cool yeah, but... a jester? Why? I'm not seeing the symbolism and I sure hope he wasn't designed just to look like another certain popular jester character from an animated YouTube series that just so happens to be... amazing. *cough cough* My point is, I would like to know why his design is that of a jester. I guess that can be expanded on later in the series.

Overall, good stuff. Great puzzles, albeit easier than other entries, cool story moments despite being mostly filler, and good chase sequences for the most part apart from one of the new characters. No big final boss fight this time around which is a bit sadge. Solid 7/10 I'd give it. Definitely not the best entry, but it aint the worst either. Looking forward to the next entry.

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, the first videogame to make me ball my eyes out since Before Your Eyes years ago.

This game was in my library for quite some time but I didn't bother actually playing it until I got bored. When I finally played it; well... I am simply speechless. This is easily one of the best stories I have ever experienced in my life and it absolutely touched me on a VERY deep level.

Let's start off with the story (and SPOILERS are ahead btw). Everything about it was nearly perfect in every aspect. The game is pixelated and low-poly without voice acting, so occasionally, it is hard to take some moments seriously. But this wasn't an issue with me as I love low-poly and pixel art. And without voice acting, I was able to give each character their own voice in my head, which honestly added to the experience. I love how the anomalies and flash backs were handled; they definitely added a supernatural feeling to the story, which definitely had me hooked as I do love a little bit of sci-fi/supernatural events taking place to add to the spice of the story. I'll leave that there for now as there are multiple specific story bits I wanna cover in a bit.

I mentioned low-poly and pixel art being this games artstyle, and it's amazing. It's beautiful and I think almost every single area had just the right amount of touch to make it all feel real. No area in the game feels empty (except in obvious places that are meant to be empty).

I LOVE how you think the game is over during that first credits sequence, and when you are sent back to the beginning of the game, you're like "huh oh, its just the beginning of the game again", and quit. BUT, if you're like me and you're very attentative to detail, you will know some things are different... plot twist: the game isn't over, you just completed the first act. Mind. Blown. It was then I was filled with determination. More on that later.

I love how 95% of this games soundtrack is piano-based; fitting for the games theme and I think every piece was beautifully composed. My personal favorite track in the game being when we (the player) meet Cathy and Ridel for the first time in the hallway after the first presentation.

On the topic of characters, I love them here. Each of them having their own struggles and problems to deal with and I think it was written pretty well for the most part. I do have some specific notes on specific characters:

Sofia: I loved her during Act 1 and I love how excited and friendly she was. Though after Act 1, she was almost never seen again. Yeah ok, a few times we saw her here and there and she even does appear in the games climax, but I feel she could have played somewhat of a role in Acts 2 and 3?

Nicole: Nicole was written flawlessly and I love how the game handled her. I love the journey she and Mark went on together and I do appreciate her change of heart she has later on in the game. She has a broken past like Mark does and she lost her best friend; I know I would feel absolutely devastated if I lost my best friend.

speaking of best friends...

Cathy: Without a doubt in the entire ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ world, Cathy was 100% the reason I continued this game from start to finish. Her entire personality is shining and she almost always wears a smile. Her character design is adorable, and the moments Mark and Cathy had always forced a smile on my face. She reminds me a lot of myself as I am a very loud person who loves spending time with the people I care about and doing all sorts of stupid ♥♥♥♥.

Spoilers for the game story:
I mean it when I say Cathy is 100% the hook for me. Her death in the first act of the game literally made me ball my eyes out so badly I had to stop for a minute and calm myself down. The entire sequences after her death made me cry so so so much, I thought I failed. I thought I was gonna walk away from this game and remember how it ended and keep crying. But... when I realized that the game reset, I KNEW I had to save Cathy. And so did Mark (us). And so I charged in full force into the rest of the game with one main goal: Save Cathy. It was really hard to leave her behind during some bits and I hated seeing her sad and upset, but I knew I had to save her if I wanted a future where Mark and her are still together, and alas... during the games final climax... we got that future. Cathy opened up to us about her problems back home that she was so afraid to tell Mark, and Mark was able to be a better best friend for her. And in the future, it appears Cath and Mark are roommates (i think?) and still best friends after all this time. That puts a HEAVY smile on my face and I am REALLY proud that we saved Cathy. GOD WE LOVE YOU CATHY GAHHHH

I know there is obviously a lot more to the story than just Cathy. Like Marks mom, Nicoles best friend, the Earthquakes and such. And those were all very touching as well.

But something the game really does well is teaching a lesson on how important it is to value those closest to you, even when life hits like a truck. Friends and family are incredibly important, and even though this is something I already valued in my life, this game made me appreciate it more as life (when I'm typing this) has not been the greatest for me. We all should appreciate those closest to us as best as we can, whether it's telling it straight to their face, spending a lot of time with them, or even dedicated a day of each week to get together and enjoy each others company. Until Then reminded me of how precious life is and I HIGHLY encourage anyone to play this game and just experience it's story for yourself.

My only real complaint is that Mark technically never got that last dance with Cathy at prom, so I'm just gonna assume they eventually did get a dance together at another prom tehehe

What a ride...

Split Fiction was an absolute blast to experience from beginning to end. Hazelight definitely delivered once again.

The story begins with our first character, Mio (the sci-fi writer), entering what appears to be a Publishing Company's office where she meets our second character, Zoe (the fantasy writer). When a bunch of other writers are asked to step onto some kind of strange platform that puts them in a bubble (sending them to their stories), Mio grows incredibly suspicious and accidentally stumbles into Zoe's platform, sending Mio to her stories. From this, glitches begin to spawn and our two characters are sent on a long journey to get out. The story further on is really well put together, Mio at first might give people quite a bit of frustration due to her refusal to open up about herself (but this ofc changes much later on, just give her some time). Both characters have moments from their past that inspired quite a few of their stories, which is discussed and explained in detail more later on. Overall, the writing is absolutely superb.

The setting and environments were gorgeous in both types of worlds. I do not know how else to describe it other than absolutely gorgeous. Stunning views, really cool visuals, a LOT of really cool background sequences like dragons flying or ships crashing.

Gameplay for the most part, is pretty well done as well. There are some neat sections that stood out to me. For example, when Zoe becomes a tree spirit to guide Mio across a level of natures obstacles and the player controlling Zoe would have to essentially control the level letting the player controlling Mio navigate safely. Or when Zoe (as a green ball) would have to navigate a Pinball styled section and the player controlling Mio controls the bumpers. These are just a few examples of sections I really liked. My partner did have constant audio issues throughout the game, namely with cutscenes. As soon as a cutscene began, all they could hear was the first bit of audio and it would loop for the rest of the cutscene and even into gameplay sometimes. Apart from this, we never encountered any major issues.

Which brings me to my biggest piece of feedback: the finale. GOD this finale was a HUGE step up from It Takes Two. ITT had a pretty underwhelming finale being a simple rhythm game with no final boss or anything. Split Fiction makes up for that immensely by having a Final Boss stretched across 3 phases which felt incredibly climatic and a huge improvement over Hazelights previous title.

The ending of this game is bittersweet, my partner had the purest smile on their face watching the ending playout and I couldn't help but smile too. It's 100% worth the journey. I played this game with a very close friend and I highly recommend anyone looking to try this out to do the same, play it with someone special to you, it makes the experience a truly unique one.

Overall, Split Fiction is a fun, action-packed, and remarkable journey that is definitely worth investing time and money into. Trust me.

Dark Revival is easily a step-up from the first game. The atmosphere feels more eerie than ever, the visuals are stunning, the environment feels superb, and the combat is greatly improved.
The story is just as good as the first, painting clear pictures here and there and leaving some things unanswered to allow the mystery to build itself. The gameplay and environments are easily my favorite thing about Dark Revival; you can tell the dev team really took inspiration from BioShock and Rapture (especially with the ingame references).
A few things do bug me about it here and there, but my main gripe was the one mascot girl near the beginning in the coffin; if you interact with her, she jumpscares and damages you for the remainder of your playthrough. This is by far annoying and unnecessary, but hey, just don't interact with her I guess.
Overall, it's honestly a great grab, especially if it's on sale.

Not gonna write a super long one here, but this experience was quite enjoyable. The parkour was a lot of fun, the story was well crafted, the horror themes were on point, nearly everything about it was really good. It's biggest flaw is that it's too short. There was so much room here for a LOT more and sadly, if you breeze through it, you'll complete in about an hour. Hopefully if any sequels follow, the devs can take time and make it quite a bit longer. It's sad my time with this game was short, but I do love what we got in the end.

There's a LOT of potential for this one. While at first glance, it seems to be yet another mascot horror FNaF inspired game (and it technically is), it's setting and tone provide an opportunity to really stand out and become a whole unique experience.

To the creators, who have poured so much passion into this project;

You guys really made something special here with this first chapter of the game. The graphics are fantastic, the environments are super well done, the opening act of the story is intriguing, and the entire first chapter is super well done! However, if I am to make one small suggestion to make this games future an absolutely outstanding one; try to avoid mascot horror tropes.

The first chapter of this game is essentially your average mascot horror game intro; arrive at place, you were related to it, monster occasionally shows a limb or two of itself here and there, monster eventually reveals itself in a large chase sequence, monster dies at the end of the chase, next monster teased. While there's nothing definitively wrong with this, it has become a repetitive and quite frankly predictable trope that can be seen miles away by anyone who has played several mascot horror titles. So my simple suggestion is to create entirely new cool spooky and thrilling moments, some that even the most proud mascot horror veterans couldn't see coming. Originality is absolutely a key factor into contributing to a completely unique experience, and Indigo Park has absolutely made a fantastic first impression on me and from the looks of it, the entire community.

I wish the devs the best of look and I am looking forward to chapter 2!

I'm a sucker for Valve titles and fan-made spin offs, so a new Half Life/Portal experience is always something I look forward too. And this mod, while not being perfect, was just what I needed after the long gap between this and Entropy Zero: 2.

Portal Revolutions presentation is exceptional and tremendous in every way. The game starts off with a simple "Hello test subject! Begin testing!" and slowly evolves into a story as you progress. While it's story, attention to background detail, and setting are absolutely tremendous, as I said before, it's not perfect.

I always tell myself, and everyone I meet that likes Portal the same thing; "Every good Portal game needs a good story." The Portal series is FILLED with tons of lore, dark secrets, and tragic events in its history taking place in the same universe with the Half Life. The story of Portal: Revolution 100% delivered. It was a fairly simple story and did not contradict with any Portal/Half Life canon, respecting the original titles as needed. However, despite it's story being quite a treat, it feels like a little too much of a copy & paste of the original Portal 2 story. Test subject wakes up, meets core, core helps them escape, you 2 find big powerful source, core sends you away, you wake up below Aperture, you find a new core friend, new friend helps you defeat first core who turned evil, except it ends on a... "that's it?" kind of note. It would have been nice for them to mix things up a little bit. I believe the game offering the player a choice between which core to help would have been a tremendous step in deviating from the original story. Neither core shows any sign of truly EVIL intent, Core 1 wants to bring GLaDOS back so the facility can function like a paradise (he doesn't know GLaDOS killed all the humans), and Core 2 wants to prevent it from happening. Would have been interesting to see where a choice based story would go. Overall, it's a good story, even if it's essentially a modified copy and paste.

Speaking of the cores, Conly is by far my favorite thing about this mod. She was originally a human and when you woke her up, didn't realize she was a core until moments later and has this horrifying realization of what's happened. I would have loved to get to know her a bit more by having us wander around the Aperture underground where she talks about some of her memories at the place. Which she technically does, but it's more so about Aperture itself and not her as a character. I would have loved to hear her talk about some of her past working at Aperture with some of co-workers. She was so well written and it was fun to travel with her throughout a more expanded and shocking underground of the facility.

On that topic, falling into the depths of old Aperture is I think where this mod shines the most. Not only is it the chapter where we meet best core, and not only are ALL of the environments so well done and detailed, but it genuinely feels real enough to say "Yeah, this is the Aperture Valve envisioned." The exploration as well as going through old tests with all those new mechanics felt amazing.

Speaking of the new mechanics, I really REALLY wish we got more of it. The test chambers in this mod are fairly easy, nothing too incredibly challenging. Some of them felt a little too repetitive, requiring you to go back consistently. Even adding the brand new test mechanics like the power-off, sprinkler fields, or the laser link cubes, everything felt a little easy. Now, "easy" doesn't necessarily mean "bad". Maybe some other people had difficulty and me being a Valve veteran, I'm kinda used to it. Not sure, that's just me.

The music was tremendous, easily on par with the tracks from Portal Stories: Mel.

The setting and environments was also basically a bullseye hit here. I genuinely felt goosebumps at certain moments in the game because of the insanely will done setting and audio cues.

Overall, I recommend Portal: Revolution 100%. It isn't the perfect Portal experience, but it certainly adds to the world of it and I definitely had a lot of fun going through it. The ending: I was incredibly upset that we didn't get much clarity on the ending and we were just placed back in stasis. I would have loved to see more of what happens. It's good to know that we didn't die. The game hints to MAYBE getting a sequel, but even if it didn't, I am happy to know that Sterling and Conly are all right. I'm gonna miss the new friend(s) we made on this adventure. Until next time, friends..

Being a Sonic fan for 20 years of my life definitely means a lot to me. Sonic Team finally delivered something that is promising for the future of the blue blur. Sonic Frontiers holds up decently well with what it wanted to accomplish. While it did miss a few steps, it's not so much the game you should be focused on, but rather the formula Sonic Team is implementing here. And in that regard, Sonic Frontiers shines.

Sonic Frontiers is the very first Open World Sonic game and the first 3D Sonic game in a while that is somewhat reminiscent of the Sonic Adventure titles, giving you free roam far from just the side scrolling/boosting limited movement of the games past Sonic Unleashed. The open world itself, while it can be a bit bland, is filled with activities and secrets to keep the blue blur busy in his quest to solve the mystery of the Starfall Islands and save his friends. Most of the puzzles you can solve to help uncover more areas of your map are quite simple, not pressuring you to go super brain mode. In order to progress in the story, you must gather various different collectibles like keys, tokens, and memory fragments you can find scattered throughout the islands.

Speaking of the story, Ian Flynn did a tremendous job with what he was given to work with. I kinda wish there was a few more cutscenes with context and character interaction to really help build up the story better than just some flashbacks of the past here and there. The character development of all of Sonic's friends was fantastic, some of the best characterization for them in years. Each of them have a small side story that they need help with and you slowly progress through them both and Sonic has some great moments with them. Great story overall, I just wish there was a bit more time for the storyTELLING.

Cyberspace by far is my biggest disappointment with this game. They CAN be fun and they CAN be well designed, but some of them don't feel quite play tested. I would sometimes fall off or miss a spring for no reason, and if I ever messed up, I would have to restart the whole level since the timer doesn't reset if you ever die. Additionally, almost all of the Cyberspace levels are either in Green Hill Zone or Sky Sanctuary with a dash of Chemical Plant and the new highway space. I wish SEGA would stop reusing Green Hill so much.

Bosses are fantastic, even if the game sometimes doesn't register my parry. They all have a unique way to take them than just a simple homing attack. And the combat tree, while simple, was super fun to mess with and fight all sorts of enemies in the game. I had an absolute blast fighting everything that stood in my way. The final bosses that caps each island were INSANE to fight. I wont spoil it, but if you're a fan of Metal Gear Rising Revengeance or even Dragon Ball then you will LOVE the final fight for each island.

Music was basically sex for my ears. I don't think I need to explain it any further. Sonic never misses with its music.

Overall, I was very happy and very emotional when I finally completed the game. The first Sonic game I played on launch day since Colors. While it isn't a perfect game, it's the game I needed as a Sonic fan since the franchise has had a rocky history. The entire cast of the characters did absolutely fantastic and it was amazing to hear Roger take on a more serious toned Sonic. I miss my favorite childhood blue blur and I'm super glad to see that he's back and on a fresh, new direction for his future. Good luck, Sonic. I've missed you

So, there's a lot to talk about here.

A LOT of people praise this game simply because its gameplay and mechanics are heavily inspired and similar to Sonic Adventure. And in that regard, I can see why this game is praised. I've been a fan of this series since Spark 1 came out. I LOVED Spark 1 so much, Spark 2 had a lot of problems, but was still alright in the end, and then there's this game...

Let's start with the basics. Spark 3 is a sequel to Spark 2, I cannot really say much about the story because apart from a FEW short cutscenes in this game, the story is not well put together. Spark 1 and 2 like most games we've played, have cutscenes between levels, bosses, and other events. All with clear dialouge and slow story development as we progress through the game. Spark 3 on the other hand doesn't bother to even give us a reason as to why Spark is on the move until Spark himself after level 4 randomly comes up with a television screen and goes "Oh hey there, here's the story of my game so far". Kind of funny, if I'm being honest. The finale puts the story together SO SO much better than the rest of the game does, so I am very much willing to forgive the game for that. Because damn... that finale hit me...

Now onto the gameplay. Spark 1 had several different kinds of power ups you could find throughout the levels and they were SO much fun. Spark 2 had much less, and very few of them actually were useful. Spark 3... has barely anything. The ONLY Jester powerup I ever found was a Scythe in the new shop. I don't count Floats ability (since it just changes the character) and I don't count any of the new combo moves you can use. There could be much more that I missed, but in my journey of completing every single level, I found nothing else. I was VERY disappointed in that field as I was really looking forward to the new powerups in this game.

Bosses are pretty disappointing apart from the very first boss and the final boss. Every other boss in this game, you are either in a vehicle, fighting a boss from a previous game (reusing the exact same boss theme from the previous game), or you are meant to lose the said boss fight. The vehicle bosses aren't bad, but I wanted to run around and do Spark things fighting these bosses.

The music as always is very good. It's refreshing to only hear 2 reused themes from the previous titles. I was really REALLY hoping for a banger vocal track during the final boss but...well, beggars can't be choosers.

The credits are cringe. Not the actual music though, that rocks. But... you'll see what I mean.

I will say, the finale of this game was absolutely spectacular. Even without the banger vocal track, this is an amazing way to end off this series. It totally made up for most of my issues with this game. I'll miss this series all together

Overall, while I really enjoyed this game and it certainly is a solid game, nothing beats Spark 1. This game by any means isn't bad. It's just not a very serious feeling Sonic fan game. But maybe that's the whole point. Spark IS a jester after-all.

This is a complicated one so bare with me.

While I enjoyed my time with The Suicide of Rachel Foster, and as much of a polished, solid game that it is, it ends off with a VERY problematic viewpoint, one where I HEAVILY question the writers.

You play as Nicole, a young woman whose father and mother recently passed away. They were the owners of an incredibly fancy hotel that they now leave in your hands to sell off. As you arrive at the hotel, you are basically locked inside due a massive snowstorm outside. Luckily, you are not alone as your new good ol buddy and FEMA agent, Irving, has contacted you and helps guide you through the hotel uncovering its and your family's secrets.

As you progress through the game, you begin to learn a bit about Rachel Foster, the girl in the title of the game. I'll spare the details just so this review doesn't go on for too long, but basically, there is a LOT to unpack and a LOT of things your character discovers that completely shook me during my first time playing through.

Before I get into that, I just wanna mention all of the positives that this game has to offer, because there are quite a few. I really enjoyed exploring the hotel. Being able to walk around with a LOT of freedom let me take my time and progress where I needed to at my own pace. The environments were very detailed and decorated and teh atmosphere was absolutely fantastic. Every second, this game gave me a chilling vibe that something was going to jumpscare me, but alas, no jumpscares! Saves me the trouble of worrying. However, there isn't much GAME to it as its primarily a walking simulator where you find things, push buttons, ect.

With that being said, here is my (and I think most of this games players) main problem with the game, specifically its story (spoilers ahead)
Nearing the end of the game, we learn that Rachel was groomed and raped by Nicole's father. We also learn that she didn't actually commit suicide and was instead killed by Nicole's mother, Claire, with Nicole's own hockey stick (Nicole was on a hockey team) the very same day of Nicole's big game. Being absolutely horrified, Nicole obviously had a breakdown. Now had this had been the end, I would have been fine. It would have been a story about a horrible tragedy with a past to overcome. However, this game took it a bit too far...

This game romanticizes and promotes the pedophilia in it. At the end of the game before the finale, it's revealed that Irving was not actually a FEMA agent. He was Rachel's brother, living in the hotel attempting to guide us to the truth that we didn't know about before. In his monologues, he talks about how Rachel found "true love" with Nicole's father and was "happy". After the finale, Irving and Nicole find peace together, Irving takes off into the snowstorm and dies, and the one of two endings you can get are either Nicole dying in her own car to some kind of gas, or Nicole living the rest of her life, going insane, at the hotel. There is no happy ending here.

The main problem here is the fact that these writers actually found a way to praise and romanticize pedophilia and find "love" in a traumatic backstory where the adult was obsessed and had full control over this young girl. I do not think this game does any justice on touching on these topics whatsoever.

I feel really bad that I didn't piece this all together until recently. My first time playing through it was months ago and it was 2 AM when I beat it and I was beat tired so I didn't really understand or research its story properly.

All that being said, its a solid game for its pure exploration and gameplay but falling very VERY short on the message it is trying to get out to its audience. And I cannot recommend a game that promotes something like that.
